In today’s edition I look at the life, the music and the astrology of Clarence Clemons, who died last week. The article has interviews with two people who encountered him personally, including an old housemate. I also looked at the history of the saxophone and found some amazing connections between its chart and that of Clarence Clemons, and two other sax greats. You can purchase today’s issue, which includes horoscopes for this week leading up to the third eclipse, by clicking here. Eric,
Yes, definitely a high standard of journalism and astrology. It’s your heart-and-soul passion for the subject matter that really comes through and sets this piece apart. It’s evident that you immersed and enjoyed yourself. Thank you for sharing that buzz.
hi Gary!
It’s a fun mode of journalism isn’t it. The Story of the World. I had a LOT of help on this piece, from batting around the astrology with you to one of my astro teachers who is a music historian to the two people who actually met Clarence to Virginia, our new star research assistant, and so on and on.
I have to say, I am inspired by the life that Clemons lived. He knew how to REALLY DO IT. You have to get up there every night and play your best show, always push that edge, and at the same time he got the cosmic joke. He knew the meaning of it all and Bruce figured that out fast. We all got the benefits
Gary PS part of why I do this is I love the world. I see what we have here, and what we can create.
Amanda……huge thanks for the link to the undergroundgarage/radio affiliates…I’ll be listening! I’m also on the ‘major crush’ list !
Wow, Eric.
how you consistently continue to outdo yourself as an investigative astro-journalist researcher is amazing to me man
From Castro to Clemons I continue to be deeply impressed by your ability to put things in a broad context which also has amazing detail and depth
the paragraph on Vesta is genius
and of course the history of the saxophone is most impressive
I want to say Bravo! and Encore! but I also want you to go have some fun, so I’ll just say again
Wow
also, steven van zandt, the E Street guitarist, has a radio program called “little steven’s underground garage.” he’s doing a show this weekend completely devoted to the memory of clarence — his various musical projects, acting, etc.
here is the link to see if a station near you carries the program, and when:

and if you don’t have a station near you that carries it, most radio stations stream these days. my local station carrying little steven airs him Sundays 10pm-midnight here: http://www.989wclz.com/
OOOOOOOOHHHH — lokta! love love love. i will definitely check that out. i’ve had a major crush on jian for about 15 years. 🙂 it would be cool to hear clemons have a conversation with him — jian is a gemini, and the couple interviews i’ve heard him do have been really fun; he’s a natural talker who can ask good questions and really take in the answer too.
CBC’s Jian Ghomeshi did an interview with Clarence in 2009….and was replayed this week.
It’s really worth it to give a listen….such a voice !
