PW FM :: Blue Studio Sessions :: Sharing Masturbation & Sex Education, and How it’s Done in Sweden

Blue Studio on Nov. 11, 2012

In tonight’s conversation with Planet Waves readers Ann and Steve, we start with the topic of sharing masturbation. But the conversation quickly goes to how to educate your kids about sex, how it’s done in Sweden, how to communicate about sex in a natural way — and some energy healing themes as well. This file is a little over an hour in length.

  1. Sometimes I think that when it becomes the norm to be open in our talk about sex in an age appropriate way with everyone and people don’t bat an eye, we will have saved the planet.

  2. I remember when my son was 11 or 12 or so and I walked in his bedroom one evening to ask him to help me close a window that had been left open and was stuck. He said he would come help me in a minute. When I left the room, I realized that he was somewhat red-faced and when he did come out, he looked like he felt so guilty! I realized that he had been masturbating. So next time we were alone in the car together, I told him that it was normal, now that he was getting older to have sexual feelings and that maybe he might be looking at pictures of naked women and so forth and might be wanting to touch himself. I told him all that was fine, was normal, but not to share that with his little brother as yet because he was too little, being 6 years younger or so. The hug he gave me later on was sweet, grateful and so relieved, I’ll never forget it. My kids know I love sex and I am so glad I was able to communicate that acceptance to them.
