How you deal with this has more to do with the art of parenting than anything we’ve seen on Oprah. It’s fair enough to teach that certain kinds of freedom are appropriate for different ages, and to do your best to tailor the universe of available activity to the developmental stage of your child. However, they are more in the mood to push certain matters of a philosophical nature than usual, and can usually outwit you with little effort. And there is, in fact, no fighting the point that their life is their life.
