Not sure where and when diplomacy got a bad rap. The ’60’s?
It is not the same as being two-faced. It is being tactful, which involves getting your point across, without beating the other person about the head with it. It’s a method of expressing dissent or disapproval, without burning bridges and (unnecessarily) creating enemies.
Otherwise, we *say it like it is*, and *let it all hang out* with no regard for the other person’s feelings and our (ongoing) relationship to that person/group/nation.
I’d say it takes quite a bit of style and originality to be diplomatic.
