  1. I don’t understand what she’s talking about when she says that “all of corporate America is on the Republicans’ side.” Is that hyperbole? Is it sloppiness? Is it a convenient way to strengthen her argument? I’m not able to imagine that she doesn’t know who contributed to Barack Obama’s campaign, just to name one Democratic political candidate. Perhaps what she means is that all of corporate America is on the Republicans’ side [and also most of corporate America is on the Democrats’ side too]. I understand that the money breaks down differently when you compare national, state, and local campaigns, but still… the last I checked the Democratic party was funded by more than unions and bake-sales.

    Then she goes on to say roughly, “This is an existential fight for the survival of the Democratic party… that’s why the streets of Madison look like this today.” This is also sloppy reasoning. I think those people are out there because they don’t want to lose their rights and benefits (a damn good reason!), not because they are fighting for the survival of the Democratic Party.

    The basic point of the segment is really important and convincing. The truth was already enough.

  2. Mary, you can see all of Rachel’s broadcasts on that same website. They are posted the the net — with many fewer commercials — shortly after the show airs at 9 pm Eastern time. By later the same night they are up and you can watch the whole program, conveniently divided into segments.

  3. I am horrified, disgusted and grateful to planet waves and Rachel Maddow for this painful edification. Thank god(dess) somebody’s following this injustice. Makes me all parts angry and furious and ready to search out my old political activist pals.
