Weekly audio for June 23

Good morning…we are just past solstice and heading into a partial lunar eclipse — and I’ve done my best to present the implications of this astrology. Here is your link. 1. astrodem, what a great story, and exactly one of the ways astrology freaks me out! 😉

Thanks for bringing up logos as critical thinking has been on my mind in recent times. I especially liked this from the linked article:

“Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It enables one to analyze, evaluate, and restructure one’s thinking. Fair-minded critical thinking requires intellectual humility, empathy, integrity, courage and other intellectual traits – mostly these are characteristics of Virgo. Critical thinking without these traits may result in clever, but manipulative thought serving unethical purposes.”

    Beautiful!

Yes, thanks for bringing that up. It’s very relevant for me.

  2. Here’s a completely random little story from today with a nice astrological synchronicity.

Earlier this evening, my political speech writing class held a competition of sorts. Our assignment for this week was to compose a 300 word “pitch” for any charity of our choice. The competition was to see who could write the best speech. At stake was a sum of $150, made up of $5 contributions from each student and matching gift from the professor. Once all the speeches were delivered, we would vote for the best pitch. The winner would get to donate the money to their chosen charity. This is socially responsible learning at its best.

I work for a non-profit that defends whistleblowers, so naturally I wrote my speech about the need to protect people who blow the whistle on Wall Street. Sadly, I didn’t win. But I came really close. I tied for second place with my best friend in the class, who wrote her pitch for an animal shelter that cares for wounded and abused bunny rabbits. The winning speech was made by a young woman who spoke about an organization called Nothing But Nets, which combats malaria in Africa. Her speech was extraordinarily well crafted, and it appears to be a fine and deserving organization.

My professor, who is a speech writer for a high ranking US Senator, commented briefly on all the speeches. In regards to my speech, he said it was one of the most tightly constructed logical arguments he had ever heard for a charity. He held up my speech to the class as a brilliant use of logos, one of the three classical techniques of rhetorical persuasion (logos/pathos/ethos).

When I got home, I remembered that Logos was also an asteroid, so I decided to look up its placement in my astrological chart. Here is the link to the Planet Waves delineation of the meaning of Logos in astrology: http://planetwaves.net/smallworlds/contents/planets/logos.html. It means pretty much the same thing in the field of rhetoric.

So it turns out that my natal Logos is located at 11 degrees Leo in my 6th House, and is conjunct my North Node to less than one degree. Logos is also loosely opposite my natal Venus, square my natal Chiron, and in a nearly exact trine my Midheaven. Those seem like noteworthy aspects, and I intend to meditate on them over the next few days. But the surprising synchronicity — and the point of this story — is that transiting Venus made an exact conjunction to my natal Logos this evening, right around the time I delivered the speech. It looks like the Goddess was definitely working her magic on my Logos tonight. With my North Node so close by, there’s probably a spiritual life lesson to be learned from this.

Flashing forward just a bit, it looks like Venus will be making a conjunction to Logos in late Virgo at the very end of July. Vesta will be nearby as well. That strikes me as a potential opportunity for careful reason and logic to triumph, or at least cut through the noise for a day or two. Wouldn’t that be nice for a change? I think so. Anyway, go find our where your natal Logos is. It’s a really slow moving object — even slower than Pluto — so your natal Logos is probably in Gemini, Cancer, or Leo.

  3. well this thing is gonna hit several facets and points of my natal all of which have been and continue to be powerfully transited

i like this part of the audio — the voice of intuition never promulgates fear, “its really that simple”

I just may put this audio on loop play while I sleep … a very sound hypnotic I must say..

    Thank you and Bless you.

  4. Thank you, Eric. That was a fantabulous audio. Two random thoughts … this one coming up again and again for me: what we really want vs. what we *think* we want, or what the unconscious drives us to want. I’m finding deciphering the differences between these three concepts challenging.

Second, as I was taking a walk through the countryside surrounding our village today, I was thinking about commitment. There are some people whose lives have touched with mine who are so scared of this word, this idea, that they run screaming. “Committing to someone else? Giving myself away? Forget it!” Then I realised that that definition of commitment is wrong for me. Just plain wrong.

It isn’t commitment to someone else: it is commitment to yourself in any given situation, at any given time. Full commitment of self has no set criteria. It doesn’t demand that relating to someone needs to take a particular form. As long as you are in it as yourself, 100%, then you are also fully available to everyone else no matter the parameters. I think we need a rethink of the term commitment. I really do.

  5. Thank you. While I was listening I had the image of being in a jungle, going forward with a map. PW was the map. A cosmic tom tom. Thank you.
