Um, about that cardinal ‘climax’…

I was reading through the comments for Len’s Monday blog post when this little gem from PW regular be/bkoehler caught my eye, with regard to the upcoming astrology: “As to the objectionable word ‘climax’: perhaps the ancients saw all this merging of energies, partnerships and seedings as a form of copulation, and rather than use the word orgasm, . . . . . . . . . !”

Amanda Painter

The comment brought to mind a related blog shared by a friend on Facebook, though not written by him. (He did, however, make the titillating remark, “Let’s talk about where true Revolution COMES from.”) The blog makes this very comparison between the culmination of the cardinal grand cross this weekend and the chart for a particular woman’s first orgasm. The piece is called Le Petit Morte… and the cardinal grand cross and was written by John Townley on his site Astro Cocktail.

It’s a fun, short, sexy piece and it makes for a vivid illustration of the build-contract-build-release process that sexual, creative and cosmic energies (wait — is that redundant?) cycle through. The post at the link above includes the charts for both the inaugural orgasm and this weekend’s astrology for side-by-side comparison (if that’s not your favorite position, I’m afraid you’re own your own… ). I for one would love to hear what else our esteemed readers bring to this interpretation. Time to have a little fun with all this ‘big astrology’!

  1. I appreciate the apology Emily, thank you for writing.
Sadly though, now I totally understand your reaction and association with the shot. That’s fucking disgusting what happened to happen to you. Horrible.

I am going to light a candle now and send healing karma your way, for your continued heartache and for the success of the law suit. Heaps of Irish luck to you.

  2. I like your style Amanda, and agree. New life. . . .as yet unknown and therefore, scary to many. We must keep on trying to awaken as many as possible, in whatever way works, to the fact that as Len says, we’re all in it together, all at the same time. Baby steps; after the first few it gets easier, right?

  3. be — that your comment was meant for amusement was precisely why i used it! it really has a fun tone & imagery.

thank you very much for the additional info — i really appreciate it.

and while a ‘climax’ is technically a ‘culmination’, in sex its also the beginning of that process of beginning a new life (not in all cases obviously, but that’s still the biological drive — at lease in the male body; i’m not sure if female orgasm is similarly designed to aid insemination, but it would not surprise me). i guess it all depends on which process is in mind.

so in that sense, i do still think your comment and my friend’s (about where revolution COMES from) and the blog and your additional information all mesh:

if orgasm may contain the beginnings of a new life, so too may this cardinal grand cross contain the beginnings of revolution; the birth of some new creative force to grow with; the building tension is a new starting point and releases us to take the next steps.

    maybe?
    🙂

  4. Amanda and all,

I’m relieved that Len doesn’t find the word “climax” objectionable (my poor choice of a word described in his article as “unfortunate(ly)” and “climax, shlemax”), and my feeling that he was just making a point was why I wrote what I wrote in my comment and meant for amusement only.

I would however, like to say that I’m pretty sure Ray Merriman (finance astrologer) was the person who coined the phrase “cardinal climax” and want to show a little of why he did. You can find this and more at
    http://www.mmacycles.com/articles/articles/the-cardinal-climax%3a-2008%112015/

“Forecast 1995 (written in October-November 1994) Things have definitely slowed down since the hectic period of 1988-1993 known as the ‘Capricorn Climax’. That was a special and unique period in astronomic (and human) history when Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and the Moon’s North Node all conjoined in the tropical constellation of Capricorn. Nothing like that had ever happened before in our lifetime. Those monumental world changes, present in cultural, economic, political, health, and individual areas, continue and will continue to affect us for many, many generations. The next somewhat comprable era is not due until 2008-2012, so there is some time to work with the issues brought forth during the ‘Capricorn Climax’ and to deal with the ramifications of change which this same period coincided with.”

    /snip/

Forecasts 1996 These assumptions and the correlate, are the basis for a long-term outlook on Humanity’s future. And based upon these assumptions, we have just started a cycle that is not due to climax until the period 2008-2011. . . . .

. . .the probability that the number and intensity of such ‘doomsday prophets’ will probably escalate greatly between now and then. But based upon these assumptions, the course of history (and destiny) upon earth will not likely take a dramatic turn for at least 12 more years. There is not likely to be a major world war, nor nuclear holocaust, nor world wide economic collapse, nor major collapse of a political system that strongly influences the course of Humankind for the next twelve years minimum.”

    /snip/

“THE 2008-2014 PHASE IS STILL THE BIRTHING POINT OF THE LONGER-TERM CYCLE. It probably represents a time of leaving its ‘innocence’ phase. Technology matures and thereafter may become the undisputed foundation of the world’s economy, for better or worse. Manufacturing and industry must be re-tooled, or relegated to a less important position in the survival of the Human species.” (much more at link)

Jeff Jawer (Oct./Nov. 2009, The Mountain Astrologer) writes “Let’s start with the name ‘Cardinal Climax’ being used to describe the 2010 t-square. It is, I believe, an inaccurate astrological description of the situation. Cardinal signs begin seasons; they are starting points rather than climaxes. These outer planets aligning in the early degrees of the cardinal signs show that we are coming to a beginning rather than reaching a peak or an ending. Climaxes are high points, often at the end of an event or cycle, sometimes in the middle, but never at the beginning. Calling this t-square a Cardinal Climax is a case of premature prognostication, where the excitement over an alliterative term distracts us from understanding what this astrological pattern really means.”

So I hope this shows that Len, Mr. Merriman and Mr. Jawer are all in agreement over the cardinal t-square now in effect between Pluto, Uranus and Saturn, is not an ending. I for one agree with Mr. Jawer in that “the excitement over an alliterative term distracts us from understanding what this astrological pattern really means.”

  5. Aw emily? Now I don’t want to look at the photo any more. I’ve absolutely no problem with it not being hot for you — to each their own — but it’s no longer hot for me now, ‘cos I have some gruesome image in my head that wasn’t there before?

  6. to comment on CC Diary: turns out you need a *separate* WordPress login & pass. i would imagine you can use your same username, but the password might be different. i’d have to check with anatoly onthat.

there is a sidebar on the right-hand side of the site (like here) with a section header “Login or register to post comment.”

it’s not subscrinbing, it’s just registering for that blog.

good luck, & hope to see you there!

  7. glad people are getting a kick out of this!

yes, i lamented how difficult the charts are to read at the link. maybe if someone can see the date, time & location for the orgasm chart we can duplicate it in a different chart-casting program?

aword: yes, i think tongue-in-cheek (or wherever else you prefer it) is the name of the game on this one. i was aware of the potentially limiting take townley is taking, but i look at it similarly to how i view freudian literary theory: way too limiting if it’s the only one you use, but if seen as one of several possible tools, it can add an interesting layer. and given how edgy some can get about “big” astrological aspects, 2012, etc — it seemed to me worthwhile to think of some “explosive” things that are quite enjoyable & potentially productive.

michele: thank you! as for commenting on the CC blog, i’m not sure what the issue is; i know len & hypnotic have left a comment each. does it require a separate password? sounds like a question for anatoly &/or eric, since i know the comments function is there & enabled (unlike monday, when i somehow accidentally disabled it on len’s piece… after wiping out & replacing all but the first paragraph of the essay).

🙂 goodnight, all! i have to be up in 5 hours to edit.
    oops.

  8. I also had problems commenting on Cosmic Confidential.

Michele: Im dumb, and I dont have children, but one thing you can do to see your child’s chart in your natal is to do a synastry chart which basically takes your chart and superimposes it on your child’s natal chart, or the other way around.

So you can see where your sun moon and ascendant breed off of or connect to her natal personal planets.

I tried doing this with my parents’, but I dont have their natal charts…

I do see where my scorpio moon and unaspected venus libra 4th house comes from my dad (he was a libra sun only child)….his parents were both scorpio sun…

i have also been having rich dream life of family lately, especially mom…

  9. Gosh. I feel like I have tons to say. For starters: I love the sense of humour here. I so need lightness right now. Amanda… I’ve tried to leave comments on CC but it doesn’t work. You have that sparkle that lights it all up.

Two: Gushing makes me think, these days, of what my beautiful daughter is up to. It’s sorta strange because neither one of us is religious, and this is a “mission project.” But check it out if you feel like it… I stretched my own self beyond belief to help this happen. And the beautiful daughter is there… happening. http://www.waterfromyk.wordpress.com Water. Crazy stuff.

And there is my son. With whom I had a huge conversation last night about compassion.

    Fuck, I love these two.

I also have an an astrological question… I’ve googled madly but haven’t really found an answer… Can you find people in your natal chart? Can I see my daughter or my mother or my son in my chart? Or do I have to study all this for another 100 years and compare charts? I’m very curious about this.

Background: I dreamed of my daughter. A distressing dream. And she called me from Tanzania mere hours later. Then I dreamed of my mother, and spoke with her. Because here (at Planet Waves) you are mixing stuff… I’m working o ways to pull everything together to give people what they really need. (I’m certainly not sure that made sense.)

These are all ways of apprehending… And it would be very good for me to read about other people’s ways of apprehending and how they all come together to give a larger picture.

  10. Ah yes, the Townley’s “visual astrology” has interested me for years, I find it good reading.

A couple of related but slightly left-field comments:

I don’t see any necessary difference between a “birth chart” and an “orgasm chart” – although the idea of looking at a chart for an inaugural orgasm is fun. Certainly a difficult moment to “capture”.

I disagree completely that any first earth shaking orgasm would always be remembered. I say “always onward and upward” – the current orgasm always being the “best”. (And old lovers often best forgotten.)

And well, really – the world is not having it’s first, only, and completely the best that will ever happen ever ever again orgasm or anything else in the next 48 hours. I find that idea to be irresponsible and believe it’s meant tongue-in-cheek as may be the intent of the whole piece. (whole piece, get it? piece? ;P)

There’s plenty that I pray does NOT explode now or ever (the Gulf, the hard undefined object in my abdomen, my teakettle ) and then, yes — other lovely profound explosions always welcome, this weekend or next.

Thanks for a fun read Amanda!
    xo

  11. It’s an intriguing notion so thanks Amanda for writing this article. Sadly I don’t really have the wherewithal to dive in further right now to see if any more thoughts come up. That said though, I DO want to say that the picture at the top of the Townley article is very damn hot! 😉

Hows about we all make sure to turn on some loving late Friday/early Saturday and make planet earth move to some serious cosmic rockin’ ‘n rollin’?!!

  12. Amanda addendum: Yours truly considers no word “objectionable”, climax or otherwise. The concern was over the idea that it was somehow all over. We have most of the rest of the decade with Uranus square Pluto, exacting seven times. We have just begun a tremendous journey of discovery and evolution and none of us are on our own, regardless of our favorite position.

Thank you once again for making a worthy and (actually) profound contribution to the coverage of the cardinal t-square.

  13. Hey Amanda,

I dig this! very cool …

but I cant freakin read the charts! It would be great if they were blown up a bit … my eyes are crossing….

  14. Amanda,
By golly, not only is this a healthy dose of having fun, you are on to something. In his comments on the “first orgasm” chart Mr. Townley comments that the current grand cross “lacks the Scorpio element”. i disagree. The Sun in that chart (November 7, 1973) is in mid-Scorpio, a fixed sign. Just like this weekend the Sun is in mid-Leo, a fixed sign. To reiterate my blog today, the middle of the fixed signs is the middle of a given season, a threshold point, the sacred cross-quarter.

My only question would be whether it reallly was the first orgasm of the woman in question or whether Mr. Townley is flattering himself. Nevertheless, the association is striking. Thank you!
