This is the week

If it’s not clear that things are coming to a head, you can check the front page of CNN or you can check the astrology.

We’re also at quite season for anniversaries, from Sesame Street to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Nineteen sixty-nine was a watershed year: from the Moon landing to the Manson murders to Woodstock to the phrase “the personal is political” coming out of the feminist collective called Redstockings. Sixty-nine was all about the astrology, and so is this stretch of 2009-2010.

In seven short days, Saturn’s first square to Pluto is exact; the two planets are currently within 1/4 degree of exactitude; so this is the moment. You may be feeling this in your inner life, or personal life; the world is certainly going through some wild gyrations. We are in one of those moments when everything seems to happen at once – a kind of singularity point that might feel a little or a lot like an eclipse. If you’re paying attention, this will be one of those moments in time that you remember poignantly.

The Fort Hood massacre will hopefully be the last horrendous news to come out of this aspect, though this particular contact (the first of three exact squares) will have a range of activity reaching to the end of the year. I can tell you that based on both the astrology and the nature of the event, this will be considered one of the major turning points in the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, those legacies of the Cheney/Bush administration.

Saturday night, the House of Representatives passed its version of the health care bill, which by all indications is doomed in the Senate. This law would require everyone to get health insurance or face massive fines and penalties; and a last-minute amendment banned coverage of abortion, even though this is a federally guaranteed right.

We don’t make a big deal out of this now, but we also don’t generally understand or even acknowledge the ways in which political events influence our personal lives. That point of contact is the theme of the hour: Saturn and Pluto are aligned with the Aries Point, and there is a major conjunction coming in the spring: Jupiter conjunct Uranus in the first degree of Aries, the sidereal vernal point itself (the technical name of the Aries Point).

I would say, hold onto your hat, but what I really want to say is: live the day.

  1. be, Len, thank you for your compassionate words. I speak personally when I say this: what I’m going through is not a comfortable place to be; but it’s also not a wrong place to be either.

I have come to this place in part because I have spent so much time taking on board suggestions of what I ought, and ought not, to be that I’ve forgotten to walk the path of my deepest truths. Where that path intersects with my fellow travellers, that’s where I experience the power of the collective; where it doesn’t, I learn to celebrate our differences.

  2. Nance:

Its an onerous job, not only knowing how the sausage is made but putting finger to air and checking the quality of the stench of the carcass being fed through the grinder. And there’s much more to learn.

Frequent breaks, like the ones I’ve been taking this year from the adrenaline overload called 2008 A.D., are critical.

  3. Fe says “What I hope to get a better handle on is linking up seemingly disparate events, like bombings in far-away places lined up with calls for votes on military re-appropriations.”

Sounds like you are a political ecologist! I work as an ecologist with the environment and am always asking those linkage questions like ‘what are the major connectors on this site?, and how does the site connect with a larger area (watershed, etc.)?’

Watch for those unseen drivers of a system – fungi in a forest, for example. Huge organisms with major influences on system function, but largely unseen until they fruit (produce mushrooms).

  4. BK:

There’s rarely truth in politics. You have to see through the arcane kabuki of it to understand what’s going on in reality behind those big white paper walls.

I look at some of it sometimes and don’t understand what I see until I see other news flying under mainstream news radar.

What I hope to get a better handle on is linking up seemingly disparate events, like bombings in far-away places lined up with calls for votes on military re-appropriations.

The old adage of “they never remember what they’re paying for until something they need is broken” is true from providing water to the fire hydrants, a sewer break, or to the safety and security of an army base. Who knows the real story and why it happens when it happens? You can alway check to see, by even timeline, the effect of one incident and how it will be played on Capitol Hill. The machinery is complex, and unfortunately sometimes, efficient.

  5. Strangely … I’ve felt as though I’ve been at the center point of a lot of chaos for at least a year (if not more) and finally, finally I’m beginning to reach some sort of calm…

I’ve noticed before that I seem to feel the effect of some transits before they actually hit – Mercury retrogrades are a case in point … Not sure if this is what is happening or I am just in the eye of the storm…

  6. Shanna:

I was raised Christian (Catholic) and in principal and spirit believe in the compassion and forgiveness which is its beauty. Its all the other stuff hung on “Christian”, particularly in America, where its now defined by everything but spirit, and to which I object.

But I apologize for causing you discomfort. I will make the effort to clarify so that the difference is known, and avoid the generalizing as much as possible.

  7. Fe,

What kind of sport besides politics and lawmaking require you to stay aware of the big picture, while keeping track of each little detail as it develops. . day in and day out? You must love it! We love you for doing it!

Listen to Len Sarah; now’s not the time to explode. We (mankind) are experiencing the increase in consciousness that the Aquarian trio came together for. No one energy could do the massive job that must be done in order for “us” to make it more fair, more clean, more humane, more peaceful and even more loving on this precious earth. Not even Pluto could do it alone. Each energy represented by each planet is part of the orchestra needed to make it happen. Not all experiences of it are pleasant I know.

I feel sure when we need to “perform”, we will know instinctively, intuitively, emotionally and/or spiritually when to do it. By coming to this site and commenting you are performing a service. Someone will read your words and relate to them and know they are not alone. Like Len says “we are the process”. Eric weaves the events together, gives us perspective, and advises us why we feel what we feel. Fe keeps her eye on the ball here in the US and lets us know the facts and what they mean.

Breathe deep, give hugs and know you are here – on the planet – in this country – at this time in history – for a very good reason.
    be

  8. I’m feeling the intensity build as well. It feels different than last week – around the Ft. Hood incident, I picked up on something darker. It has shifted to a chaotic feeling – I’m almost overwhelmed by it. I like astrology and metaphysics because it helps me make sense of all the energies I am feeling. Does my 12th house stellium have anything to do with this?

The past year has helped me strip away a lot of non-essentials, including judgement. It feels like I have a deeper knowing of what is truly important, and an easeful method of letting go of the rest.

Here is a link that offers some info and tools:http://tomkenyon.com/chaotic-nodes-and-dimensional-attunements

  9. You know, Fe, I have a confession for you, and I feel a little stupid that I even have to make it or that I even held this idea. But here it is: I had always bristled at “Xtian” and sort of held that against you for using the term –even if you’re not the only one who uses it. I am, I know, keen to support and defend those who do follow Christ with authentic humility, gentleness, and grace. And I hate to see (as I do any group) all Christians vilified as ignorant, intolerant, meddling, nut-jobs. So I’ve been cranky every time I see “Xtian”.

Until today. Today I managed the part the waters of my own defensiveness.

Of course there’s no Christ in “Xtian”. What do they need Christ for, anyway? “X” is just an integer that could stand for anything. Anything at all. How convenient. It’s a perfect name, yes it is.

  10. Please remember, astrological aspects are not arrived at overnight, they develop over time. The same with the issues which have come a’cropper. We are not outside of a process, we are the process. Find somebody you have recently differed with and give them a hug. Feel your Chi settle down when your feet return to the ground.

    Len:

Quite right. All month, in anticipation of this square, I now believe, I’ve been feeling the need to drop away the non-essential safety net, run-of-the-mill intellectual and emotional backstops I’ve used to separate myself from others and to keep people who I considered “wrong” to stay wrong.

The Judgement button is getting pushed less and less. This is a good thing.

  11. Fe – Eloquent and spot on. Given the Aries Point action, how we treat each other on a small, personal scale will carry just as much weight in the long run.

Sarah – With all compassion and respect, a state of terror and explosion is not sustainable. Being able to hold the tension and intergrate the (seemingly) conflicted energies is what an astrological square is all about. In a very real sense, the blanket Fe talked about is also us. Only if we, the vast majority, are divided against each other can we be weaikened abd defeated by the few who use fear, anger, and confusion as their artillery. Simply because the stakes are high does not mean that our individual or collective Chi have to be.

Please remember, astrological aspects are not arrived at overnight, they develop over time. The same with the issues which have come a’cropper. We are not outside of a process, we are the process. Find somebody you have recently differed with and give them a hug. Feel your Chi settle down when your feet return to the ground.

  12. Oh my God, can I feel what you’re describing. I’m at explosion point. Not at all sure what to do or where to go … and I’m not sure how long I sit tight and hold on, there is just so much to contain. And the alternative to holding on? Terrifying!

  13. I am working to keep up with the flow of info on HCR (Health Care Reform) as it wends its way through Congress. Energetically, we’re watching a tug of war between two sides, both tugging on a blanket over a high fence. The more one side pulls, the other leaps up and grabs back. Each time the blanket is pulled either way, it gets more and more frayed.

The blanket is the legislation itself, and the tactics are the Stupak Amendment, the anti-abortion amendment (sure to be killed by Obama if it makes it out the Senate intact), used by Xtian Right as a wedge issue to divide Blue Dog Democrats (democrats from Red States) from the main party. The short-term goal by conservatives is 2010 elections and creating divisional rifts that will gain them seats in the House. This is NOT a vulnerable President YET, though every effort will be made to make him appear so. And with a decision on Afghanistan-Pakistan looming, all eyes are on Fort Hood.

Obama says in effect, that the kind of changes we’re making are like steering a ship across a vast sea–changing momentum of a very large craft and working towards the flow in a new direction. The energy of the time, I think, supports the change though the hull will probably experience stress before finally turning around. There are many many individuals and businesses invested in staying with the status quo. But the more we spend time out there pushing the ship towards anew direction, there will be nowhere to go but the new place.

And that’s exactly what those who are fighting against health care reform and anti-global warming legislation–those who have the most to lose financially–are trying to prevent.

These are not light stakes at all. Its a change in the way we think about how we treat each other on a massive scale, both in this country and in the world.

  14. Thanks Len, what would I do without you. I will add a PS here.

Jupiter is indeed leaning into an exact conjunction with Chiron, and then with Neptune. The first of these two is Dec. 7 with the Sun on the Great Attractor and Mercury conjunct Pluto — this is incredible and relentless astrology we are in the midst of; we are at full on 1960s intensity, but not quite at the point where we can say this makes the Sixties feel like a cup of tea.

Currently the we are at first quarter Moon; Moon square Sun; Moon square Mercury; Moon opposite Jupiter. So there is also a T-cross in the fixed signs: Leo to Scorpio to Aquarius.

There’s a lot more than this, but let’s call it good for today.
