Saturn in Libra

Hello…Saturn is now in Libra. That was a very strange transition; and we shall now experience the approach to Saturn square Pluto with both planets in the signs where it will happen.

I am laying low today, getting the newest edition of Planet Waves Astrology News together for our subscribers. It’s one of those weeks where there is so much to write about I am not sure where to start. There is a deep personal dimension to the abundant political activity that I am working out the nature of; it is something about paralysis driven by a combination of fear and people becoming spectators; life being a spectator sport, as Bob Herbert pointed out in his New York Times piece earlier in the week.

Your thoughts welcome here.

  1. Congrats Mystes on wonderful Saturn turing up with spade and passionflower. I am very pleased for you. Happy digging.

Thank you also for this wonderful Dylan Thomas poem. It is mesmerizing and I especially loved these two lines towards the end:

“And I am dumb to tell a weatherโ€™s wind
How time has ticked a heaven round the stars.”

Brought tears to my eyes and a shiver up and down this Waver’s celtic spine.

Hmmm I can smell that plot of earth from here.
The aroma of soil sends me into orbit!

  2. Okay, will try this again. Saturn in Libra will be marvelous for me. The last time it was here it served to illuminate many of my destructive habits in relationships and encouraged me to change my diet and give up controlled substances. I apparently needed refresher courses in 93-94 (my son was born in 93 and I broke up with his father in 94), and in 2001-2002 (another potentially destructive relationship-but the synastry! the heat! the total mind blowing passion! the marijuana and the food that got me through!! I gained 20 pounds.)

    This time s the reward.

I visited my home town in upstate NY (Hi Eric!) this past summer and decided that my parents need me to be home. Both Saturn and Pluto are kicking my father’s ass (he is 1 Capricorn) as he has been ill for some time and his illness has just been diagnosed. My other has also been ill for some time, and I would like to enjoy them and have them enjoy me while we are all still ambulatory and in our right minds. So I am relocating. I need a new job anyway and Saturn across my MC these past two years has underscored that.
I’ve recently embarked upon a new relationship and our ascendant is 10 Libra. Change is afoot. Life changes.

The relationships among the composite charts of me and my sweetie, me and my daddy, me and my mommy, and my mommy and daddy are pretty interesting as I discovered just a while ago; and the transits that affect my and my sweetie’s axes will also affect those of my parents. Even though my major concern is my folks and their health, I am also concerned with me and sweetie. We reconnected this past spring (we grew up together more or less, and he was my third grade boyfriend) and things have heated up fairly quickly. Our parents are friendly and have known each other since we were infants. Saturn again.

I’d like to include that my parents’ composite has a Pluto/Saturn opposition across the asc/desc axis. Saturn is on the descendent and that explains why they’ve been married for 55 years and are still in love. They are also still sexually active, as I’ve mentioned in other posts. They don’t mind me sharing that ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I love Dylan Thomas…love him.

Mystes, where is your progressed sun? I sense a new bloom on you.

The worm has turned, I think. Blessings to you on this day of remembrance.

  4. Happy Dead Day! Y’all. . .

Thanks for all of the sparkling responses to the Saturn-Earth gift. Patty, I thought I could use your wisdom here (it has been 3 years since I’ve planted a garden). And Shanna… yes, there will be catalogs, but right now the plot has lemongrass, kale, greek spinach, rosemary, lemonbalm, basil, chiles, sunflowers and passion vine volunteering on it. Blasting away, really. I’ll just cultivate a bit and try to stay out of their way till March.

The lover and I were out there yesterday, and she pointed out the fat, black & orange catepillars – then a pair of passion flower butterflies swirled around the vines. Strange convergence of Hallowe’en palette and wild green energy.

Ah… I feel a wave of Dylan Thomas coming. Perfect for Hallowe’en:

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
    Drives my green age;
that blasts the roots of trees
    Is my destroyer.
And I am dumb to tell the crooked rose
My youth is bent by the same wintry fever.

The force that drives the water through the rocks
Drives my red blood; that dries the mouthing streams
    Turns mine to wax.
And I am dumb to mouth unto my veins
How at the mountain spring the same mouth sucks.

The hand that whirls the water in the pool
Stirs the quicksand; that ropes the blowing wind
    Hauls my shroud sail.
And I am dumb to tell the hanging man
How of my clay is made the hangman’s lime.

    The lips of time leech to the fountain head;
Love drips and gathers, but the fallen blood
    Shall calm her sores.
And I am dumb to tell a weather’s wind
How time has ticked a heaven round the stars.

And I am dumb to tell the lover’s tomb
How at my sheet goes the same crooked worm.

  5. Mystes – Ha! So pleased for you! How wonderful – a garden for growing…

Yes, this Saturn in Libra has been felt over here too. Yesterday, awakened with the great sensation of renewed energy, (my Mars in Libra) enough to take me on a run through the fields with the hound. And enough to produce a new business plan, some new insights with a recent client – which had foxed me for a week or two – and several streams for new articles, all of which were written in my sleep.

It is also heartwarming to know that our bank accounts are in a similar condition! Our roof is still on (I truly hope that is not a huge problem for you and what ever it is gets fixed easily), however our boiler doesn’t work and as we can’t afford to fix it we are heating ourselves with sheer cheerfulness ๐Ÿ™‚

    Love.

  6. Woohoo!! Saturn just turned up with a spade in one hand and a passion flower vine in the other! After sitting on a 2-year waiting list, I now have a 400 square feet of prime dirt in the Sunshine Community Gardens, a 2 mile walk from my house!

The board waved me in, even though I can’t paid for the season yet as there is only 88$ in both of my bank accounts and everything elsewhere -rent, net access, bills- is due. Well, due over the next week.

Yet I see the convergence of great soil and imminent systemic failure as enormously interesting!

Hmmm… and as I write, a tree branch falls on my roof. Well, well… let’s go find out how long before the house falls down around me. (That’ll eliminate the rent payment, I suspect).

    Yeehaw.

  7. Viper-Queeny, of course you can. It is called love and forgiveness, a regular theme on this website. We all do things we think that God will never forgive, but the fact is, it is not God who condemns. You are your own worst judge and jury. It was during the saturn return that i also started looking for my daughter, and it was a dream that triggered the search. It ended so much better than I ever dared to hope. Pay attention and love everyone who crosses your path – they are there for a reason. If you need to mend fences, start mending them right now so you can go forward creatively and astound the world.

  8. Eric – thank you – I’ve re-read both articles and feel much better – I am on the right track and find that my community work is what’s keeping me grounded at the moment ๐Ÿ™‚ On with the great adventure!

    Thank you!

  9. To Cancer: The 4th house aspect is intense, but in the 4th house it is also extremely healing if you are honest with yourself and all family relationships. The 4th house represents the ‘end of all matters’ and to me it means a final wrapping up of family issues that have passed down through the ages – not just your generation but pre-life conditions of which you can scarcely have any knowledge. Keep a journal and write down important dreams and chance meetings and fleeting thoughts. They are bound together with the silver threads of your ancestors, to help explain your existence. that’s what I think. This is the time to heal all relationships so that when the 5th house comes around you will be free of worry and able to access creativity/creation.

When my 4th house was active I learned that my father, who was a gunnery sergeant at Pearl Harbor, had shot down a US fighter plane during the attack. It was called ‘friendly fire.’ If only we had known this when we were much younger, it would have explained all of the things we didn’t understand about him. He was a good man, but he grieved all of his life over that one mistake and took out his anger at himself on us. I wish he could have known he was forgiven. In fact, it was the same time I learned that he sent his paycheck to his father’s 2nd wife to support her and the 4 half brothers and sisters after his father died. His father deserted my grandmother and him, for this woman. My dad never turned anyone away, who needed food or a place to sleep. So anyway, open your eyes and heart to what you might find out about someone you think you don’t like in your family. What you see isn’t always the real truth, and what you portray as truth may be a lie. The truth is hidden in 4th house matters.

  10. Thanks Len,
I agree that the word to use should be “evolve”. BTW, I have learned a lot of astrology from you folks.

For some, who live life with full awareness of the SELF , will specially feel the “pressure” because they know that this is a process of evolving and they cannot run away from it, just like a serious student preparing for an exam knows how important it is to get through the exam. (You can read my feed back on 2009 experiences for Cancerians requested by Eric)

And yes I would love to work with you sometimes.

    Thx

  11. The Saturn-Pluto square happens in a series of three events over the next nine or so months. However, it’s part of a much larger configuration that builds to a peak in 2012. From this point on, it’s pretty much nonstop until 2012. That brings a new set of aspects: the Uranus-Pluto square, that goes from June 2012 through 2016. So – we are now embarking on a long process…details week by week in Planet Waves Astrology News.

If you are a subscriber, check the recent editions The Road to Xibalba and The Mighty Equinox. Both address the cardinal T-square.

  12. Hi everyone – I have been reading along for years now but have only tonight taken the time to properly figure out how to register and post a comment. The Planetwavers have helped keep me sane and helped me keep my faith many, many times – thank you all and I think it’s time I took part in the community huh!

ashawf and Len – thank you! ashawf, I too have been wondering the same thing and feel that ‘answers’ will be a very long time coming and that I really have no choice but to take the hand of the Unknown and be led althought it’s scary and yep, you guessed it, unknowable! – there is no other choice it seems…

Len – I feel pretty much the same as ashawf and must admit to being disappointed that it will take so much more time again to find resolution to many things in my life ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for explaining it – I have no astrological knowledge – 41 year old Cancerian (Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars in Cancer, Mercury in Gemini, Leo ascendant – that much I do know!)

    Blessings

  13. ashawfon,
Since Eric is laying low today (and rightly so) will you please accept my service for the moment?

First, my complements on your observations, very proficient (would like to work in partnership with you sometime). Your use of the Thema Mundi house arrangement is very appropriate to the syntax and context of the situation – yessss!

Now, as to “how long will the aspect last…”, etc. i’m sure you already know some of this so bear with me while i trace it one step at a time for our other readers. A square is a major aspect. The orb of influence is normally considered to be between 5 and 10 degrees. Call it 8. However, there are complications in this case. First, Saturn will be less than 8 degrees into Libra when it stations retrograde, backs into Virgo about a degree (squaring Pluto on the way out) then stations forward and squares Pluto a third time after its second ingress into Libra. To complicate the situation further, when it’s back into the last degree of Virgo it becomes one of those out-of-sign aspects and the math changes (sort of like keeping two sets of books) – yuck. SO, if you take all of this into account, and given how slow the apparent motion of Saturn and Pluto are …how long the energy will be in effect?” could be deep into 2010. Of if you ditch the orbs and go with whole sign aspects, 2011.

    i say again, yuck.

However, there are some other ways of looking at it, especially for Cancerians. If we consider that Moon ruler and the fact that the New Moon is still taking place late in the solar house (as result of the nodes so recently changing signs) the ephemeral aspect of the Cancerian profile can work to their advantage, at least enough to maintain being functional through the prolonged challenge of the pressure to (as you put it) “grow up” (personally, i would use the word “evolve”). If you accept that, the solar transit into Sag should provide some relief until Saturn stations.

SO, ashawfon, what do you think? Anyone else?

    Len Wallick

  14. okay so i just pulled the trigger that sent out my fellowship proposal for a hefty artist grant.
weeks in the writing. i am a neanderthal when it comes to writing about my own work. equipped with seemingly only a club, fire and a physicality to survive attack. i wasn’t exactly planning on sending out my proposal today, its due tomorrow, but it seemed right as saturn moves into libra via my natal jupiter, south node then on to uranus. no time like the present huh. the last time saturn entered libra I was 11 and had my first bout of depression i spent hours watching the wall. until my dad stuck a pencil in my hand, gave me some paper and an old drawing board(which I still have) and said Draw! Thanks Dad. Now I’m crying. wow. what a day.

  15. Last night my roommate and I had a real heart to heart talk about what was working for each of us and not working for each of us in our new house. We dissolved alot of the old modes and structures we when we rented an apartment and created so new ones that fit better her owning the house and me renting from her. The energy just seemed really conducive to an open, honest conversation that moved us forward. Got to love the changing signs in Saturn helping us dissolve this old structure and build a new one that is more balanced.

  16. I have one question for Eric on Saturn in Libra Square Pluto in Capricorn.
How long will aspect last and how the energy of this aspect will be in effect ?

I taking a shot at trying to interpret this aspect for Cancerians. I am afraid this aspect will be very intense for us Cancerians.

Libra- sign of BALANCE, 4th house of roots, foundation , “Home” for the Soul and Saturn the tough love Dad.
Capricorn – Sign of Structure, Social Order, 7 house of relationships and Pluto
the Cleansing by intense Stirring of the sub conscious Lord

Pluto already in the Polarity sign and creating havoc in terms of wanting something and wanting to be free from it at the same at many levels, now square by Saturn who is telling you that it’s time to return home to Real You, grounded and in a state of equilibrium. You have no choice but to grow up !!

  17. Last night at 4:30 a.m. a visit from the ice weasels (bless you Matt Groening), but not just the cardiovore (heart-eating) kind. This was naaaawwwwsty, the vibe right out of a Nosferatu production.

Then as Big Daddy was entering Libra, a surge of clarity around one or two definitions I’ve been grappling.

This is gonna be fun – in a creepy, gotcha, who dat! kind of way. Here we go. . .
