Saturday: Venus trine Vesta. Chiron square Eros.

RIGHT AFTER THE emotional swell provided by the Full Moon, and Mercury’s square with Chiron yesterday, we are given another sensitive group of aspects dealing with individuality and creativity. Venus in a trine with Vesta feels to me like a craving for peace through creative study.

Vesta is the creative fire that every person has inside of them: it is the emotional hearth we are given to tend throughout our lives. Have you ever gone out into the woods and tried to light a fire by holding a lighter underneath a dead branch? Nothing happens. In order for a fire to be built, time must be taken to select the proper ingredients, time must be taken to prepare them, and then more time must be taken to build the pyre.

And that’s before you light it! After you light it, you must watch it constantly until it gets hot enough to leave. Fire is like an infant in this respect. You need to feed it and coddle it before it can be productive. In this way, it is a lot like creativity.

Through this process of creating something, you take the raw materials of your experiences, and you turn them into something else you can use. This to me is the essence of Vesta. Trining Venus opens this aspect up for a lot of sexual creativity. It is a fully charged feminine aspect with an abundance of things to enjoy.

With Chiron holding a square with Eros, there is a feeling of holding back from an indulgence. Eros is an asteroid that was discovered in 1898 by a German astronomer. It has an orbit that pulls it close to Mars, and it takes 1.8 years for it to spin around the Sun. Greek tradition placed the love of men for other men in the care of Eros. The Spartans sacrificed to him before battle, and his statues have been found in wrestling gymnasiums from those times.

He was also associated with lust and frenzy, making him a close relation to Dionysus. It feels to me that the relationship between Eros and Chiron today is about a charged relationship with the self. Perhaps a feeling of wanting to throw the self away or into something passionate is inspired by this aspect.
