Olbermann will return Tuesday

From Politico.com – just arrived in my inbox.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann will return to the air Tuesday night, after being suspended Friday for making political contributions to three Democrats. “After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night’s program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night,” MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement.

  1. sigh***I remember when I was very small and ‘GE’ to me was just a little shop were we could trade our old light bulbs for new ones….

somehow watching GE expand does not carry the same fullfillment as watching a plant grow or a child mature.

  2. GE’s political contributions, from Democracy Now!:

“MSNBC’s Owner GE Made Over $2 Million in Political Donations in 2010

While Keith Olbermann’s donations became front-page news, little attention has been paid to the massive amount of political spending by MSNBC’s parent company General Electric, one of the nation’s largest military contractors. Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting reports GE made over $2 million in political contributions in the 2010 election cycle. The top recipient was Republican Senate candidate Rob Portman from Ohio. The company has also spent $32 million on lobbying this year and contributed over $1 million to campaign against a California ballot initiative aimed at eliminating tax loopholes for major corporations.”

  3. or…’my girlfriend was getting pissed off that I was being constantly interrupted with the KO issue so she began withholding sex and I’m afraid to dump her right now because she’ll make my life even more miserable than it is. so after a couple of days I figured I’d been punished enough…’

Oh my, the stories we could conjure!

“Punished” ha. Like KO will come back to work with his tail between his legs? I anticipate that we will hear no mention of this from him – that he will just continue on his track – but with more vigor than ever before. But however he responds it will be with purpose. We shall see on Tuesday.

    So good this.

  4. I think he meant, “After several days of my mail server shutting down and Verizon screaming at my IT department, and after noticing that 250,000 people signed a petition in 48 hours, and discussions with our accounting department and Toyota, and my wife threatening to leave me, I thought it might be a good time to put Keith back on the air.”

  5. Here’s a sodden thought:

November is sweeps month for the networks – meaning they put up their best shows to jack up revenue for the year. One is in February, the other is November.

So it doesn’t surprise me one bit that some network exec was doing the calculus on losing that share of the news viewing market from Keith’s suspension. That’s major millions in advertising revenue at the height of network TV’s selling season.

Either this was highly cynical manipulation on the part of Comcast, or Griffin and his boss are complete idiots.
