Checking in with the astrology vis a vis Egypt, I cast a chart, set for my local area, just to get a hint what was up. I guess you could call it a horary. My initial feeling, before seeing the horoscope below, was that the standoff is building toward the Full Moon. There was a lot of action and a turning point right around the New Moon at the Aquarius midpoint a week ago, and now we’re seeing a new surge of energy right at first quarter. [Note after writing this: On CNN, the Egyptian ambassador to the US is saying live that Mubarak has transferred all presidential power to Vice President/American Flunky Torture Chief Suleiman under Article 82 of the Egyptian constitution, and that the VP is the de facto president.]

Looking at the chart, the first thing I saw was 18+ Leo rising. I remember this degree from the infamous Aug. 11, 1999 total solar eclipse — the big one that cut a swath across Europe just as the EU was taking shape. Eclipses are events that have meaning and influence many years after the fact. I believe this is the degree with the Sabian, “A House Boat Party,” one that I’ve always found a little confusing in the contexts where it appears. In any event, it’s what caught my eye first. This degree makes an appearance in the chart for the Sept. 11, 2001 incident — more than a cameo. Venus, the ascendant ruler, is right there.
The thing that worries me a bit is how the Taurus Moon is about to make a square to those Aquarius planets — Mars, Nessus and the Sun.
Moon square Mars is pretty pissed off. The Moon in Taurus doing this is also an image of Mubarak (who has a mid-Taurus Sun) square (crossing) the angry people, who are represented by Mars, Sun and Nessus in Aquarius. The Taurus Moon is in the 10th house of government, so we have clear image of him. The popular anger this represents is about the people of Egypt having long sustained a psychic and psychological injury (hinted by Nessus). As I mentioned before, Egypt has been under emergency law, with one 18-month exception, since 1967 — long before Mubarack was installed into power.
With that Aquarius, we have a touch of astrological irony in that Egyptian bosses keep blaming satellite news channels (presumably Al Jazeera, CNN and others) for instigating the revolution. Mubarack has taken out his rage at the media on the media, with reporters being beaten and abducted. The ‘Net has played a role in several ways, including the Google official credited with suggesting they get things going, to the use of cell phones and social networking sites.
One noteworthy aspect involves Saturn. If you check this link and look at the chart on the lower left, you can see that Saturn in the chart for Mubarak taking power (when Anwar Sadat was assassinated), you can see Saturn at 12+ Libra. It’s close to that degree today; Mubarak’s government is in the midst of its Saturn return. That, of course, means restructuring. This takes a while to unfold. Saturn is retrograde and stations direct at 10+ Libra in June. It will make two more contacts to the natal degree of Mubarack taking office in 1981.
The change is inevitable; it’s a matter of when. Meanwhile, the potent emotions of the people are going to be the thing that rules the hour.
graffiti — i totally agree. i love how astrology can give the story behind the story before it manifests, but the in-the-moment reporting from the ground has amazing energy. i never liked the idea of twitter before, but it seems to have some productive use after all. it can’t give a wide or long view of events, but it does force people to be concise and direct & lends itself to a continual flow as things shift.
as for not mentioning aspartame in that “health” story… unbelievable. and yet i guess i shouldn’t be surprised, given how far “news” has come from getting down to the *real* story of things.
Len, if you read the tea party agenda, it is not strange at all.
Looks like the Patriot Act passed in a later vote, according to this?

One thing that’s happening for sure, there is real actual journalism going on among the people who are in Tahrir Square with their notebooks and their tape recorders.
I’m not refering to the pundits who sit in TV studios a thousand miles away and talk about what it all means. They are irrelevant. They do not shake the foundations of governments.
I am refering to the reporters whose written reports on Al Jazeers English, and whose print stories on the AP wire and radio broadcasts on the BBC and blogs on the New York Times website actually ARE helping to topple a government.
This is real exciting energetic stuff. The reporters are actually describing how people feel, and how the mood shifts, and they put each new development in the context of all that has happened over the past 15 days.
This is grand journalistic stuff of the sort that we rarely see any more. Most media have just given up on trying to report the truth back here in the US.
As an example I can’t resist refering to a story in the news here in the US yesterday about a medical study that found people who drinks lots of diet soda are far more likely to have strokes.
My mouth fell open when I got to the end of the story and realized that the word “aspartame” had not appeared anywhere in it.
People have been studying asparame for decades and there are a gazillion studies about how it is a possible neurotoxin, and it has been linked to Alzheimers and all sorts of neurological problems….And yet nowhere in this story on diet soda and strokes did any reporter ever stop to say, “Some reseachers have long worried that aspartame, which is used to sweeten virutally all diet sodas, could be linked to neurological disorders….”
No one said that. It’s bloody shocking and horrifying. The story ran on a million websites and nobody said the most obvious truth about the situation (that was easily available thru a Google search).
Anyhow, the reporting coming out Tehrir Square is just the opposite of this. It is telling the truth — how thrilling!!!!
Patty,
Thank you for bringing that up. A bit of irony in that the most conservative (ie: tea bagging) republicans voted with the democratic opposition. Strange bedfellows already.
The patriot act was not renewed in the House yesterday.
Yessss Eric! Further to my comment under Amanda’s blog please also note that the Moon is conjunct Sedna at the time of the First Quarter…and… both luminaries are in aspect to Eris in Aries. Far out.
