Dear Friend and Reader:
Later today is the Cancer New Moon. The Sun is currently in an exact conjunction with Vesta in very early Cancer, this being just the second day of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere. The Moon is currently in late Gemini, making a trine to the triple conjunction in Aquarius (Late Gemini to late Aquarius is a trine) and opposing the Galactic Core. Once again the Moon is getting a lot of energy run through it. In a little while from this writing, it will be void of course for most a while before entering CancerВ at 1:11 pm ET.

The Cancer New Moon occurs just two hours and a few minutes after that, at 3:34 pm ET. This lunation is exactly conjunct Vesta, and opposite Pluto, placing four planets on the early cardinal cross that is described as the Aries Point. The conjunction of Venus and Mars is also sharing data with the Aries Point because it’s at the midpoint of Taurus: exactly semisquare the Aries Point and aspecting other points along the cardinal cross (very early Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, which all count.)
For those new to the Aries Point conversation, I would invite you to check out this link that explains the basics, called The Personal is Political. I summed it up in one basic idea: “We could call the Aries Point the One World Point, because it reminds us that we live in one world.” Hence, when events collect around the early degrees of the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, the pace of the world picks up, and events feel like they have more impact. The astrology can be subtle — for example, today’s New Moon will have effects that last through the summer and which some astrologers may not think to associate with the Aries Point.
But the energetic connection is clear. I think that of many stories in recent years, the election outcry in Iran exemplifies this idea. But there is clearly more on the radar, whether the Iran story takes on a new dimension somehow, or there are unrelated developments in other areas on the world stage. But what we are looking at is a big enough to be impressive: the first very serious cracks in an Islamist regime’s ideology and its ability to control the public.
We’ve been watching this gradual uprising since the Iranian revolution in 1979, and now (as any astrology student knows, because it’s about 30 years later) we are at the Saturn Return of the revolution — and this means a big change. But a Saturn return (which will happen every turee decades or so) does not have to be a widescale event. What is granting this the ability to have global effects is specifically all the alignments in the early degrees of the Cardinal signs. And we might wonder what, exactly this portends: how the influence will spread to other Islamist governments and populations, for example.
Vis a vis Iran, I keep thinking one thing over and over: this was a country we nearly bombed two or three years ago. Do you remember? It was only public outcry, mostly on the Internet, and the failures of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, that prevented Dick Cheney and George Bush from going in with fighter planes and bombing the people who are having this uprising now. Strange to think many people would count bombing a country as business as usual, but take a look at who we would have hurt, and what process we would have stopped, had we gone in and done that.
We might wonder the same thing about Iraq.

(Goddess… where is my editor? I meant: It’s never TOO early for 2013. )
Too much copyediting in the last 24 hours. My wonk has done quit.
M
Patty,
And you said that they said it! My conversation with that young medic as we waited to renew our drivers license was very revealing. His take was that after 3 reinscriptions, the fact of involuntary servitude is impossible to ignore, and this blows the lid off of any idea that Iraq was a war for anything but oil.
There is a thin, but growing hope that with the participation of returning military (and their very, very clear view of our bellicose messes) Texas will go Blue in the next presidential election. Me, I’m hoping for Green, but I don’t see anyone of intellectual or spiritual stature for the job. Ideas? It’s never to early for 2013.
Fe and Eric, You said it! More than one revolution has ended when the soldiers joined their families. In many ways that is what happened in the US elections because the soldiers could call home during battle. You can’t believe the prayer requests that come through my church from frantic parents who spoke to a son or daughter while bullets were flying. The digital age has been interesting, to say the least.
Thanks for correcting the year of Bhutto assination; looking at the headline files I saw the 12/27 and thought it ’08 but it was ’07. The Isreal vs. Palestine info I got when looking through your archives 6 months ago. Had hoped to find some pertinent article, but alas, it must be too soon to know how the Sun opposite Pluto will shake down in the world arena.

For ref – Bhutto was assassinated in 2007…here is Planet Waves coverage. The big war of Israel versus Palestine was over the winter holiday of 2008.

and ‘Persians’.
In 1987, when I first moved to LA I helped broadcast the “Persian News” each morning on local television. A huge population here displaced and whose political view were surely unwelcome back home.
Looking back at the news when the Sun was conjunct Pluto (12/22/08) because it’s present opposition is like a full moon, I could could only find news such as Al Franken “clinging to a narrow lead”, Rick Warren to speak at inauguration, Obama in Hawaii and some Blago stuff. It wasn’t until 12/27 that the Bhutto assination happened. Then 12 days after the conjunction the war between Isreal and the Palestinians began. There were demonstrations around the world and it hit a very emotional chord.
Iran was not in the headlines. I expected more.
I know I was off-topic in the last comment, but sometimes, taking your eyes off the world helps renew your vision of it. I’m sending the energy of “family” and laughter to the struggle in Iran.
Remembering the struggle over the dictator in 1986 in the Philippines. It was the love of each other as brother, sister, cousin that prevented Marcos’ militia from firing on the protesters — they recognized each other as familia.
Keeping those thoughts alive for those in the struggle while we move in the sun.
Put an enormous amount of energy into my house this last week, culminating in a solstice party where we re-rooted and re-potted my “stuck” (overgrown, weedy) orchid plants, producing more for my own home and giving others new homes.
I’m focusing on moving out any further corners of “stuck” energy throughout the house. Don’t know what else is popping up, but it feels like keeping home base functioning completely from every corner is going to be important for my current trajectory. I’m eating fresh spring peas that I’ve grown myself for dinner. The old orchid roots and medium are now mulch in the garden patch. A self-continuing cycle surrounds.
This whole process is freeing something up, providing a secure base from which I can fly from and return to replenish batteries–my own and others.
Got to go out to the garden now.
This is going to be a long, gradual awakening. What we are seeing here are rumblings of both Saturn-Uranus that started last year; and Uranus-Pluto that technically starts in 2012 but which is really coming up to speed right now. There is one other shape in the design – Saturn square Pluto in November, which carries some energy of backlash but which I think we will move on from quite well. The direction of the momentum is clear and the terrifying dream of neoconservatism is fading fast. Now we have to look at the world and admit how much we have to do.
I DO remember . . and it doesn’t seem so long ago either. . . the not-so-veiled threats to wipe Iran off the map. Good grief. This phenomenon, not just the demonstrations and the brutal retaliation by gov. forces, but the age and gender influence of the crowds, the thrill of overcoming the censorship and the ways it did it make you wonder how anybody could doubt the clarity of astrology.
Even more I marvel at how Americans have taken to the streets in support of these people. Granted, many of them are American Iranians, but not all by a long shot. I wonder too if, having suppressed their own (American) anger for so long, that these U.S. citizens are experiencing a vicarious reaction to being deceived (election tampering) and doing it Cancer Style. . . .indirectly. I was elated to see the crowds in California and elsewhere, when twitter was in its triumph, expressing comradeship and support for people who don’t think so highly of Americans.
Maybe the sleeping giant is finally awake.
