A nice follow up to the photo of the 58 buick skylark.. There was nothing more memorable then necking with some crush in the back seat of an old beater or “station wagon” at the drive-in theater. Amidst families with their little kids in jammies sitting on the hood or the top and carloads of teens that got in on one ticket by squeezing 5 friends and their booze in the trunk. Cant get that with youtube, netflix or even at the mall cineplex theaters.
Though, some cities are reviving the outdoor movie theater, usually in a park, it doesnt include the privacy of your automobile.
I believe that drive-in theaters and bookmobiles will be revived as retro fad by the next generations.

I remember going to that drive-in as a child with my family. There’s Wednesday and Thursday Jazz at the waterfront in Newburgh too, Eric. And have you met the Ferry Godmother and her partner? That couple is Camer Candy for real, and they provide some valuable cultural and business enrichment for Newburgh.
I LOL at several levels – your pix is wonderful, as always, Eric.
Why I laughed is that I had just finished reading this article:
“Did Urban Outfitters Submit To Pro-Life Demands?”
re: condom selling as ‘proper attire’ in a store that targets 20-30somethings, Personally I’d like to see condoms (and sex toys) selling in those little carts in the malls too. Well, personally I’d like to see shopping malls converted to “community centers” with activities other than shopping in chain stores, but in the meantime…
SO – opening PW this morning to this photo immediately sent me to the idea that drive-in movies were often used for back-seat sex (and many unwanted pregnancies).
AND – uTube suddenly became a somewhat cryptic name for a new brand of condom.
BUT – so sad that we sit at home watching short videos on the internet when we could be having rockin’ car sex with our uTubes on!
There’s my twisted reality for the day.
