Mercury, Mars and Pholus

Dear Weekend Friend and Reader:

The Mercury-Mars conjunction in Aquarius is at full throttle now, and things may be moving quickly. I am always tempted to add information about transits to natal charts in this column, but they only apply to a few people born within a certain age range. For example, people born between 1964 and 1966 will be experiencing this Mercury-Mars as a double conjunction to natal Pholus, which is one of those centaurs that tends to speed up the process of anything that it comes in contact with.

As a person of ideas, I am keenly aware that most people do not consider themselves idea people, and this is a little sad because I know how amazing the human brain can be, and that would mean your brain. However, I do suggest that you tune in because this is very much a transit pattern that is about concepts and their relationship to individuating; that is, to you being a free and independent person. You are only as free as you think you are, and that ‘thinking you are’ has a lot to do with how and what you think. I know that most people do indeed consider thought itself dangerous, as if their brains were directly connected to the FBI. They are not, and every moment is one glorious opportunity after the next to think differently, and to allow that process to guide you to live differently

Humans are creatures of habit, for good or ill, and the most prevalent habits are psychological, including the toothpaste cap. Mercury and Mars in Aquarius (and if you’re born in the mid-Sixties, Pholus) are inviting you to wake up and decide that there is another way of looking at the world, and at yourself. It takes less courage than you may imagine to make changes to your pattern of ideas, and less work. Mostly you need willingness and a slightly perverted sense of curiosity and adventure (Aquarius at its best).

As for last night’s/this morning’s slither pit, it was an interesting mix of vegetable glycerin, aloe juice and people, in a large kiddie pool in a Holiday Inn room devoted exclusively to the purpose of this particular party; organized and funded by C.T. and his friend Patti (the pool, the lube, a massive buffet of fresh fruit, and so on).
