Eris is still a new energy to astrologers; most have no experience applying it, and those of us who do have had limited time to try it out. Eris was discovered and named through a series of events between 2003 and 2006, and is now standing at 22+ Aries.

Today both the Mercury and the Sun are at 22+ Cancer, meaning that the Mercury and the Sun are square Eris in Aries. This is likely to feel like a spot of mental and/or emotional chaos; there could be storms of discord, though it will be difficult to distinguish what is internal from what is external, as a square can have both manifestations. It can represent an event or series of events; or it can represent an inner condition that’s making it difficult to see the world clearly.
Mercury and the Sun in Cancer want security. Eris in Aries wants independence and the freedom to choose who she is. Under the old rules there is inherent conflict here, because stability has generally been purchased at the price of attempting to suspend change, or activities which challenge one’s sense of identity. We see this phenomenon often enough in relationships.
This is happening amidst plenty of other activity. Mars ingressing Gemini, for example, has presented a palpable change in the psychic climate: I’m picking it up as a sense of volatility in my environment. Venus is also there; she tends to do a lot better in Gemini and the energy is gentler, more conversational, more about seeing both sides of the issue.
Of note, most of us have an important placement in Gemini, which would be either Nessus or the Nessus/Hylonome conjunction. These are two slow-moving planets that formed a conjunction for many years. Nessus is about psychological power dynamics and potentially abusive situatinos. Hylonome is about self-inflicted situations; it’s about what we do to ourselves, some of which we’ve taken on from others.
This rarely noted Gemini phase of history would coverВ everyone born from around 1960 forward, through around 1970 (I will research the exact dates for tomorrow). So this means a whole bunch of us are getting Venus, then Mars conjunct natal Nessus, or Venus, then Mars conjunct natal Nessus and Hylonome. I have described this conjunction (Hylonome conjunct Nessus) as the Dark Sixties, the psychologically impossible aspect of the Sixties.
