Another day

Another day — a long one, as they are this time of year. Friday’s edition of Planet Waves Astrology News is just about done. We should be running right on time tomorrow so look for it at about 9 am in your inbox. I’m on triple duty this week — the monthly horoscopes are due with their respective editors; the monthly essay for Chronogram; and I’m moving ahead on Cosmic Confidential. This is an incredible amount of writing and obviously it has to be good.

The way I handle this much work is, well, a few ways. One way is I start as many first drafts as early as I can. I’m doing this systematically with Cosmic Confidential, creating the research file for each sign, reviewing the prior annuals for each sign and taking notes on them in pencil, and also reviewing the chapter for that sign in Esoteric Astrology. In this process I print out and read all the reader comments and mine them for ideas. Basically I am looking for an angle for each sign, and giving myself ideas to expand on when I do the final drafts in December. I am more or less on schedule. The other strategy I’m using is my car and MacBook. I am traveling to a new place in the region every day and working in a different town and establishment or two. Yesterday I was in Hudson, NY. Today I went down to New Paltz, a college town, so I could flirt and socialize. I discovered a gluten free restaurant there. Not sure where I’ll go after Planet Waves comes out in the morning, but I will be ending up back in Hudson in the evening on a gig for the Yes Men; I am doing the Q and A sessions after their film showings in places I can get to but they can’t.
