Speaking To Power — Mercury Square Saturn

Mercury in Aquarius will briefly square Saturn’s Scorpio slog for the third time in less than 3 months on Tuesday at 2:14 am EDT, with an image of speaking to power. The aspect will be short, but functional for at least a day because Mercury is still regaining speed after returning to direct motion (following retrograde) on Feb. 28. That’s how you might want to prepare for catching it now.

Astrology by Len Wallick

If a brief aspect is important, preparation helps you to meet it on time. Think of a trolley. If you catch the conveyance, you can ride for quite a ways.

The importance of Tuesday’s square from Mercury to Saturn is implicit because, like the last trolley of the day, we won’t see another one for quite a while.

Not until Aug. 8 will Mercury’s separation from Saturn’s position on the zodiac again reach 90 degrees — the definition of a square. That’s a long time to wait, especially if you have something to say or someplace to go, activities that resonate with Mercury’s archetype.

As regards to what you may want to anticipate saying on Tuesday, think of your relationship to power, which resonates with how Saturn expresses in your life. Most importantly, do not confine your anticipations and contemplations to power figures — you can’t change them. Focus on what you can change: yourself.

How your own energy is transferred into the world is a working definition of personal power. Look for examples of how you shape your household, your working place, your relationships and your community. Then, prepare for the uneasy task of speaking to yourself about where and how the exercise of your personal power is conveying your life.

It’s not easy to get out of personal story, but that will be the first step. You will miss the bus if you tell yourself stories on Tuesday. It takes thought, and time to perceive the reality of how you help or hinder others. You may even have to overcome anxiety and ask around for honest answers to get out of story, to know how others perceive you, and to know what role you play in their lives.

It also provokes anxiety to contemplate how you might, or might not, be missed were your energy to be absent. Nevertheless, it is essential to know where you are in order to get to where you want to be. Fortunately, Mercury’s recent cycle into and out of retrograde has provided some perspective for you to work with.

Begin by looking back to the first of three successive square aspects from Mercury to Saturn on Jan. 25. Then, recall what you can from the first full day of retrograde Mercury’s second pass to square Saturn on Feb. 19.

Ask yourself what happened to the sense of your own power between the first and second pass, and since then. If you sense your own power has grown, think of how you may do better by others. If you feel less effective in the world, envision what it would take to regain what you have lost.

At the very least, the recollection of two recent prior squares from Mercury to Saturn will prepare you to recognize the circumstances surrounding the aspect when you see it again.

If you can gather information regarding how you live in the the minds and hearts of others, you will know much of your position in the world. If you realistically assess your feelings about what others think of you, you will know where you sit with yourself. At the very least, knowing your position means no longer being lost.

Having found yourself outside of story, you will then be prepared to take the next step getting ready for Tuesday. In all probability, the next step will involve a choice regarding your direction.

At the very least, deciding your direction ahead of time will settle what specific action will be appropriate for you when the anticipated tension of Tuesday’s square manifests as some sort of reality involving power and communication. From there, it will be a matter of timing.

Good timing is a matter of being in the right place, and knowing what your moment will look like before it comes. So, between now and Tuesday, find out where you are and figure out where you want to go. After that, re-position yourself if necessary to meet and respond to whatever event recent prior experience has prepared you to recognize. When the moment comes, try not to let it pass. Convey yourself, and enjoy the ride.

  1. Dearest Lizzy, I am so touched by your kindness. You are such a beautiful and courageous soul. We always are to remember we are never given more than we are called, and able to rise to. In you it shows, is appreciated and admired even from afar… Please know your light is felt as the brightest of stars! Thank you for all you share.

Thank you Len. Almost immediately after posting my comment regarding the statement of my ambivalence towards the nature and value of your question β€œβ€¦how do others perceive me”, that I fully realized the answer to my question lied exactly where the question was asked. Your question offered the discovery to draw out the answer I needed to find and acknowledge within me. I hope you understand the true value and great appreciation your gift continues to bring me..almost instantaneous, yet infinitely.

  2. “I am not sure what others think of me here, (I hope favorably and not annoying, to say the least) but again for me this is not really the point. It has been an environment for me to come to for learning, expression and sharing along my journey as I suppose all the others are here to do”.
For me, your presence here is so sweet and wise, dear P Sophia – like your name. It was you who first pointed out to me that we had similar childhoods, sensitive souls growing up in a family that took a lot from us, when we were mere children, and learning how to grow up and develop boundaries while still being loving and open. Like others here, I’ve watched you grow and evolve so much over the years, and it’s beautiful to see.

  3. P. Sophia: Please be secure that you are a valuable part of the Planet Waves community. For my own part, you are perceived as a teacher, inviting me to explore and look again, so as to make me more whole.

  4. The Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius and squares to Saturn have been a time of allowing integration and the response or action has been appreciation. My relationship to power has been ‘a washing over me’, for the experience of feeling and receiving the energy of what ‘wholeness’ means for me at this place and the moment in time.

Regarding, I am not so sure about the nature and value of your question “…how do others perceive me”, as I have found what is most important is how I perceive myself and then move out to live this concienciously. It’s not that I do not value other’s input as I do for growth or particularly if shared from another coming from in a place of wholeness within themselves… the lines can sometimes get blurred here tho. Although I am grateful, it is now much easier for me to recognize and accept this line of distinction and depending on your perspective all leads to healing anyway.

I just noticed, interesting, the Sabian Degree spans for Saturn and the Mercury retrograde have traversed in during this period are Scorpio through The Span of Appreciation, and Aquarius through The Span of Perception, respectively.

I am not sure what others think of me here, (I hope favorably and not annoying, to say the least) but again for me this is not really the point. It has been an environment for me to come to for learning, expression and sharing along my journey as I suppose all the others are here to do.

All the same ‘a friend’ directed me, and I ask it of you Len. How do you perceive me? What role do I play in your life?

For me, I offer to you, it has been truly an honor for me to know and share here with you. I am ‘speaking to power’ afterall and I recognize and appreciate this.

  5. I see this series of square as a change of direction in knowing each square of mercury and Saturn there was a trigone of Mars and mercury.
For several weeks I feel a slowdown in internet traffic, have you felt it? Mercury is still in the Neptune fisherman’s net and it returns can put the dream in a cage?
    Good Weekend to all πŸ™‚

  6. Today there is a transiting yod that relates to the feminine bulwark taking place these days as symbolized by the sextile between Vesta+Ceres in Libra+Scorpio and Pallas in Leo. Transiting planets in Pisces that in some important charts (Juno in Pisces New Moon, Sun in Virgo Full Moon) have served as the focal point (apex) for yods created within these multi-goddess patterns. Transiting Lachesis, named for one of the 3 sisters of Fate (Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos) and who symbolizes life’s destiny (length, etc.), or a twist of fate, is in that point position of the yod today.

She, Lachesis (the asteroid named for her) at 29 Pisces is being forced to make adjustments as symbolized by the two quincunxes (tension) she experiences from Vesta (29 Libra) and Pallas (29 Leo). Yods produce the need to act in regards to something symbolized by the sextiling planets. Quite possibly then, it could involve women and/or drama (Leo) and/or relationships (Libra). It could include things regarding investment and dedication (Vesta), diplomacy and strategy (Pallas) or even theft, retribution, nurturing, motherhood or food crops, all related to the symbol of Ceres who conjuncts Vesta and the north node (opportunities to move forward).

Of course, I’m expecting to see something regarding the “theft” of Ukraine’s resources, or possibly Russia’s invasion of Crimea to surface, but it can manifest in our own lives too. Keep a lookout for the feminine push for change in whatever way it appears to you today.

Tomorrow is International Women’s Day. This has been observed on March 8th every year since 1975, and on that day Saturn (rules and regulations) was at 11 Cancer, where today’s transiting Jupiter (10 Cancer) just stationed direct (reaching 11 Cancer on March 25) with every intension of expanding on a good thing. Neptune at 11 Sagittarius on March 8, 1975 quincunxed (tension) Saturn. Today transiting Uranus at 11 Aries trines (eases) the 1975 Neptune and squares (challenges) the 1975 Saturn (rules) and today’s newly empowered (stationing direct) Jupiter. It is Uranus’ job to break through into new territory, in this case the individual (Aries) woman. Do your part.

  7. Thank you so much for the encouragements, Len. Indeed, I am doing whatever it takes to pursue my passions, and it requires upgrading my capabilities while making sure I have enough rest. I am happy that I am managing my hectic schedule adequately, and I’ll feel particularly rewarded once I consolidate my position.

  8. be: Thank you. The third time is indeed the charm, especially if the first two times were taken with awareness and retained in consciousness. Thank you for helping us to do that by expanding on the correlations to the first two times so as to assist us all in preparations for Tuesday. Most of all, thank you for supplementing our look ahead.

    jinspace: You are very welcome.

DivaCarla: Thank you for demonstrating how your own personal correlations to Tuesday’s astrology resonate so well with be’s astrological correspondences. May your endeavor for Tuesday further The Goddess.

Surfdiva: It is a true joy to know my service is both useful and thought provoking for you.

Salamander: Please give yourself credit for how you are holding so many endeavors together with commendable integrity. Please do not disparage either your passions or your sensitive nature – the alternative is to eschew life itself. You will not be oblivious if you make it your mission to be otherwise. You have what it takes and are an inspiration to us all.

bodymindalchemy: Thank you for mentioning the long conjunction from Saturn to Sedna, an aspect which will teach us a great deal over time and with hindsight. Given how new Sedna is to our awareness, combined with several conflicting versions of its nominal mythology, the lesson of its opposition from Saturn will probably include continuously looking deeper.

  9. Not so silent beneath the surface of Mercury’s square dance with Saturn is the presence of the trans-Neptunian object Sedna in Taurus, making this a triplex T-Square configuration.

    Here’s the choreography:

    25 January – Mercury (22 aq 12’55”) square Saturn (22 sc 12’55”)
    26 January – Mercury (23 aq 16’53”) square Sedna (23 ta 16’53” Rx)

    05 February 2014 – Sedna stations direct (23 ta 16’17”)

    19 February, 05:14:50 UT – Mercury (23 aq 17’29” Rx) square Sedna (23 ta 17’29”)
    19 February, 07:10:46 UT – Mercury (23 aq 12’26” Rx) square Saturn (23 sc 12’26”)

    28 February – Saturn (23 sc 18’48”) opposite Sedna (23 ta 19’28”)

    02 March – Saturn stations retrograde (23 sc 19’10”)

    11 March – 06:14:09 UT – Mercury (23 aq 15’25”) square Saturn (23 sc 15’25” Rx)
    11 March – 09:56:24 UT – Mercury (23 aq 23’21”) square Sedna (23 ta 23’21”)

Eric honored Sedna in the 19 March 2004 edition of Planet Waves, and Genevieve Salerno celebrated the TNO’s discovery day in November 14, 2008 PW article.

UK astrologer Marina Macario offers a fine summary of Sedna at http://darkstarastrology.com/sedna/

A second face off will occur on 06 November 2014 when Saturn and Huya oppose Sedna and asteroid Aphrodite.

  10. Thank you so much for this useful article, Len.

It is true that I am focusing a lot more on what is going on directly in my life than what powerful figures are doing.

My current position: I have a part-time job, I have an internship that I am trying to turn into a paid full-time position, I am a student in an online graduate program, and I have family duties.
It’s up to me to gain the professionalism and competence I need to maintain my position, and go up to the next level.
I am getting a more realistic perception of what others think of me. Sometimes, either I am too oblivious or too emotionally insecure to figure that out unless I am told directly, but I am gradually understanding this.

  11. I love it when you get practical Len!

I always benefit from engaging your prescribed exercises…..”contemplate how you might, or might not, be missed were your energy to be absent.”

    Wow.

  12. Len, I have a big date with this square so this time will not let it pass unnoticed or un-acted. Tuesday at the exact moment of this square, i will be teaching a class on the wisdom of orgasm, and my theme is its in Feminine empowerment. What was that you said Be? The voice of the feminine being raised …. Well this Tuesday it is for sure, because my friend and I are raising our voices and invited a few more people to raise theirs. I am feeling some of that old Pisces birthday magic. For a few days, I thought I’d lost that loving feelin for birthdays and celebrations and flow. Maybe not.

    You’re the tops, Len.

  13. Change comes hard for fixed sign planets, but if any of them can do it I should think it would be Mercury; especially if this is the 3rd attempt. Personally, I think these Mercury-Saturn squares herald a theme regarding the voice of the feminine being repeatedly raised, and it is a truth to power sound for sure.

Remember Jude’s topic on January 25 (How Much Longer?) when she noted (among other things) how Mike Huckabee said “Uncle Sugar” (U.S.) was expected to provide birth control for women whose “libidos” were out of control? Well, that was January 25th and Juno (not treated equally) was conjunct Chiron (wounded) at 11 Pisces and they were opposite Pallas (can fight like a man) at 11 Virgo. Ceres (boy can I hold a grudge) was conjunct Vesta (dedication) with only 3 degree separation in Libra. It was Mercury’s 1st square to Saturn.

On February 19th, Pallas (4 Virgo) was opposite Neptune (4 Pisces), Juno (23 Pisces) was trine Saturn (23 Scorpio) as retrograde Mercury (23 Aquarius) squared Saturn for the 2nd time. Ceres and the north node at 1 Scorpio were only 1 degree from Vesta at 29 Libra now.

This Tuesday (3/11) Pallas rx will be sextile Vesta rx (exact this morning) and still conjunct Ceres rx (and the north node) while Juno in Aries will sextile Venus in Aquarius (exact on the 9th) as Mercury makes his 3rd and final square to Saturn.

At the time of the last (Pisces) New moon the goddesses Ceres+Vesta sextile Pallas formed a yod to Juno (discriminated against) in Pisces. In the upcoming Full Moon 10 days from now, the still sextiling goddesses (Pallas, Vesta, Ceres) will enlist Mars retrograde (holding my punches for now) in Libra, and at the apex point of the yod thus formed will be the Sun (consciousness) in Pisces (dissolving boundaries), opposite the full moon in Virgo (lets be clear about this).

The 3rd time is the charm.
