Emergence — Venus Enters Gemini

Why in the world are we here? Surely not to live in pain and fear.
— John Lennon

Venus enters Gemini, the scene of its June 5, 2012 solar transit, this Thursday at 11:03 am EDT. This year, instead of crossing the face of the Sun during its tour of mutable air, Venus will be emerging from behind solar glare, returning to visibility in the western dusk later this month. With extraordinary timing, Venus will thus encourage some emergence of your own.

Astrology by Len Wallick

If anything distinguishes Thursday’s Venusian departure from the Taurus field it rules, it has to be the timing. The implication is that there is some value to be found in starting a conversation before the solar eclipse.

A Taurus New Moon and solar eclipse will take place less than 10 hours after Venus leaves the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars to mind its store.

That’s almost like leaving sex early to avoid traffic or take an important call. Yet, if there is any pattern in how Venus manifests in your life, it is to illuminate, emphasize and prioritize values.

For the most part, values involve deep, subjective feelings. It is easier to adamantly assert values than discuss them objectively. Heaven forbid you should change your mind. Who knows what that would lead to. Nevertheless, the single most important theme behind this particular ingress of Venus into Gemini appears to be precisely that.

If there is anything to astrology, you should make it your priority this week to step back from your most heartfelt attachments and see how well they stand on their own. It’s a win-win proposition. If what you hold sacred remains upright without your having to hold it up, that will be good news. If what turns out to be a house of cards topples upon mere examination, you will be able to count yourself lucky that you were standing outside the house when it happened. What more could you ask?

Of course, there will be risk involved. Among other things, eclipse cycles are known as a time of loss. Just please consider how it would be preferable to participate in the process. It is far better to choose what you will loose, and lighten your load, than be burdened with a sense of impoverishment.

To do your best work when Venus enters Gemini, start thinking about it now. Better yet, begin talking about it now. Open a discussion with somebody who cares about you as sincerely as you care for them. Make it your courageous, mutual intent to emerge into a new lunar cycle (and the second half of our current, four-week eclipse cycle) with your values either reinforced or revised. As difficult as the prospect may appear, you could do a lot worse.

  1. P. Sophia,

Thanks for pointing out Ixion’s opposition to Jupiter as it relates to the Ohio women’s captivity case. I don’t know enough about Ixion’s myth to associate him with kidnapping – just an all around bad guy, BUT, I had thought of Ceres being in opposition to Pluto.

In myth, Pluto kidnapped and raped Ceres’ daughter Persephone. Oddly, transiting Persephone in Scorpio was and still is sextile Pluto and conjunct Saturn. I wonder if, in time, we will learn that (some or one of) the women had an odd relationship to their “captor” (the Pluto symbol) – that maybe they didn’t (all) hate him as much as he should be hated. Only because of the myth about Persephone, do I say that.

In the last 10 days transiting Persephone (retrograde) has exactly sextiled transiting Pluto, trined transiting Ceres and at some point, has been conjunct (and will be again) transiting Saturn. Recalling the yods of the Capricorn Solstice and the Aries Equinox between Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter, with Jupiter being at the fulcrum (point of release), it could be that Ixion’s present opposition to transiting Jupiter is “causing” the story to come to light now.

We (I) shouldn’t read too much of the Persephone story into this tragic event in Ohio though. I am only speculating “out loud” and would not want to cause any more damage to these poor women than they have already suffered. Maybe they will write a book(s) some day and we will come to understand what they have experienced, and maybe even what they have gained from it.

  2. Be: Did you happen to catch any of the Ohio abducted women’s stories about their abuser that were revealed today? It seems the current Jupiter opposition to Ixion and Pholus transit in Sag i mentioned here yesterday is sadly, quite literally making itself known to us in consciousness today.

  3. Be: Leading up to this eclipse here anyway it is not what I expected, I am in a complete mind fog today! And in trying to interpret this influence, quite literally feels like my head may explode. While looking up Eric’s Tarot reading suggestions last night, I stumbled across my extended chart reading. I noticed in opposition to the Venus-Mars conjunction 9H Gemini, both at 20 some degrees, my Natal Mars is precise opposition to natal Lilith found at 20.31 Sagittarius.

Well I went off to find something on Lilith and was thoroughly confused by the inconsistent interpretations, between Lilith, Dark Lilith, true Lilith, etc. also the dark mythological stories of Lilith the female satan who eats her babies, seemed bit conveniently rationalized by the Adam/Eve story led me to wondering was written for justification purposes by religious order, church, men. Still, many astrologers noted they felt there was of no value in offering an interpretation to the aspect’s position in one’s chart so I gave up. One interesting point was that some said the astroid/cantuar was some kind of vapor located between the earth and Jupiter, I believe.

In current concert with the exact Mars opposition on the same 20 Sagittarius degree, is the Ixion and Pholus transit playing out. On my desktop just popped up an article that I researched a couple of months ago, coromellblogdotcom.wordpress.com/…/23/ixion-and-pholus…Cached, is worth a read. Very familiar tone and story as you mention, is rising up in in the media consciousness these days. Venus’ Absolution may be at hand! (I would like to believe my Mars contribution, in playing out his role, is helping to transform this energy in some way?).

As you mentioned Jupiter is now conjunct my natal Venus-Mars conjunction. Some good fortune, I hope! And at the same time, believe it or not, is our Moon in transit conjunct my natal Jupiter at 20 Taurus. It is in opposition to natal Neptune found at 15 Scorpio. Yes more to transforming this Sex and Death! No wonder I have been in a deep exhaustion and fog the last two days. Finally, natal Pallas and Juno are at 18 and 19 Scorpio respectively.

Be, surprisingly my head is now beginning to clear, the eclipse has begun…off for a walk to observe. Best to you, and as always thank you for your comments. Hopeful to hear more from you! And thoughts of absolution to us all this evening.

  4. A good piece even Len and Yes with Venus in Gemini it’ll still switch, the attachment of the bull to the lightness of the feeling of the Gemini… 🙂

  5. P. Sophia,

I think your choice of wording. . Unveiling. . or the EXPERIENCE of unveiling, is a perfect way to describe today’s solar eclipse, especially as a way to tie it to previous event charts. It seems we on Planet Earth aren’t quite ready to take in the Whole Picture at one time so we must do it in baby steps toward that end so as to grasp the gravity of our situation(s).

With your natal Venus and Mars in the 9th house in Gemini, you are better equipped than most of us for (1) grasping the whole picture, and (2) finding the balance between masculine (Mars) and feminine (Venus). For me it’s been an epiphany-like experience, although coming in baby steps rather than all at once. Of the many specific stories found in the news media these days about atrocities experienced by (some individual) women from (some individual) men, it was the growth of rape cases being reported by military people that rang my own bell of consciousness.

When Venus occulted the Sun last June it was hard to pin down specific meanings this rare aspect implied, but the event chart gave several clues to follow in the months to come. Two of special note were (1) the Moon occulted Pluto and squared Uranus, and (2) Uranus was conjunct Pallas-Athene. It is Athene’s story that now clarifies the “why” of some events, especially as they relate to the military. In the “man’s world” (that time going forward after the Patriarchy became the predominant societal mode), most women were/are 2nd class citizens. Pallas-Athene’s original story morphed into one that sublimated her feminine characteristics, giving her a more masculine personification. it was largely a military one at that.

By recalling Athene’s pre-patriarchal story, we see a side of her nature now being “unveiled”, as the matriarchal Amazon triple goddess Neith. I am confident that this is being unveiled in an unconscious way through women in uniform and, (unconsciously) is experienced by men (in general, but specifically by some in the armed forces) as threatening. With Pallas-Athene in the same degree as today’s (eclipsed) Sun and Moon, it marks a starting point (conjunction) of a period of unveiling, a time of equalization of the masculine-feminine traits, talents, value, strengths and weaknesses. It will be one of many unveilings as Pluto moves through Capricorn. This particular Taurus solar eclipse forms a grand earth trine when combined with (or viewed as a transit to) the final Pluto Ingress Chart of November 26, 2008. That chart had Saturn at 20 Virgo and Jupiter (+ Venus) at 21 Capricorn, together symbolizing the ever-changing development and structure of societies all over the world.

Venus’ transit to the Sun when they were both at 15+ Gemini makes it an especially sensitive degree, but it seems logical to look at the middle degree of any sign as being the most potent regarding the potential of the sign. Although, each degree of each sign has individual importance in the overall zodiac, the 15th degree could be the strongest indicator of the sign itself. Because of that, Gemini’s role in the Venus-occult-Sun event of June 2012, should not be minimized. Adaptability comes to mind, as well as speed and variability. It plays an important role in the ongoing Pluto square Uranus period we are in now. Something we should ponder on.

For you, P. Sophia, this weekend starts not only an eclipse with Jupiter on your Venus-Mars, but a whole week of Jupiter blessings. Spread the word about your understanding of what is happening in the world and why. It is your gift and your duty.

  6. and if venus changing signs, being first in gemini (after having met asbolus – what we all have in common-, which follows her one day later, with the moon) is about starting a conversation – maybe this time she should prefer this “visceral vocabulary”, the language of taurus and scorpio, behind/beside words.
this is what all life has in common: energy, moving in waves, building patterns in rhythms (gabrielle roth). accepting (with or as venus) to be a part of this means possibly listening/receiving without judging. and aren´t personal values always a kind of judgement, which excludes or tries to make different values smaller, less valuable?

  7. Thank you, Smailing. Your note about perfumery is similar to my experience last week–that if we’re willing to see it, there’s evidence in all of nature showing us “how opaque, tight and layered reality could be and how it may unfold.” I’m working with tones now, and noticing how they’re like a set of skeleton keys, opening up locked places within. I love the feel of how an individual sung note reverberates deep within my body. I will investigate scent, though. I do enjoy how visceral the experience of scent is.
And I do trust that this is all taking us to a place of truer clarity.
I’m realizing that one of my unexamined attachments is that of not being enough to do…whatever this is. Not powerful enough, not “big” enough, not enough enough. That is something I relish moving beyond. The past couple of weeks have seen me putting more and more on the table (again, with the gambling references! Apparently, I am feeling the risk here)–old, useless patterns, relics of generational belief systems I was still hanging onto, self-defeating “needs”, the old “I am” definitions that had nothing to do with who and what I really am or want,…. Lots of little/huge things that I felt were holding me together, and were in fact holding me in patterns keeping me small.
I am learning that, rather than excise the wound and cut off a part of myself, I can hold the space for both–I can know the voice of my fear and have gratitude that, as it is my humanity speaking, it keeps me tethered to earth. And I can honor my soul’s drive to serve the divine, as it what keeps me aligned with the heavens.
I cherish the vision this work opens up. And the opportunity to make it a little more real by sharing it here.

  8. I feel with you, Strawberrylaughter, because I´ve been there. It feels so scary and shaky – and it may take years to calm down (or up?) again and unterstand. Fortunately, the astrology offers a language to understand the whole process a little better. And there is another kind of language i discovered as being helpful for me: perfumery (the independent, “niche” creations). Some scents appear like a little shelter, but mostly, I learn from them how opaque, tight and layered reality could be and how it may unfold. And it will unfold – in something more clear and stable. From chaos to order. You will realize that the large amount of power you are noticing with fear/awe is something you don´t have to take the responsibility for on your own. That “I am” will become “a part of”, of something really big and really beautiful. Promise 🙂

  9. Just seen this, Len.

Some of your highest calibre writing. Short and very sweet. Keep going, man! Your unique take, blended with the Planet Waves ethos, is a real asset. Admirable clarity too.

    Appreciated..

    Alex

  10. Be: sorry that’s Venus and Mars at 20 Gemini in 9thH, not 8th. Thanks again for your observations…always!

  11. Be: This is all very interesting. Thank you once again for adding your ‘Value’ able comments.

Wanted to get over to you this weekend to further discuss your response to Amanda’s Beltane article. But as ties to your comments of the eclipse will reach out to you here. What a great exploration period that was last May, no? I hope we experience an unveiling what with the CONJUNCTION of Sun-Moon-Pallas-Athene this time around.

It was very interesting to learn in your earlier comments that 15 degrees can be seen as a transition point, or as you suggested in mutable signs, is seeking to balance here “…symbolize something reaching it’s ultimate potency.”

Regarding Venus I have both close to mid point at the same degree. Venus and Mars at 20 Gemini in 8th. I am a strong feminist from the core living out the value and advocating in my personal life equal rights anyway seems to be a big theme. I have also always felt a calling and have done some volunteer work over the years in educating and protecting this value of universal equal rights and love among children most precious spirits too.

If you have any insights, to my position and the conjunction it would be appreciated to hear your view. There is not much found online. I certainly like and hold your beautiful thoughts of potential love in action reaching harmony here. Thx ps

  12. Amanda: It is for me to thank you with continuous appreciation.

be: Thank you for connecting the dots from the annular “ring of fire” eclipse almost exactly a year ago to this year’s annular “ring of fire” eclipse, both traversing the Pacific, both intimately connected with Venus on the verge and Pallas closing the gap, decidedly not swayed by anything smelling of Mars. However, Mars, as you point out, can and will be deferential to a great teacher unless provoked to over-compensate again (as its upcoming square to Juno may do). It will be interesting to see what happens when Mars follows Venus “from out of the West” and into twilight visibility.

jinspace: Congratulations for being on the wave front, and thank you for your kind words.

mia: Many thanks for your generous endorsement. i share your hope for this eclipse cycle.

    mmr: You are very welcome.

Strawberry: Welcome back from the wilderness, and thank you for sharing the treasure you found there.

  13. …and I know what you’re going to say about the fear. But it’s not the unlikely loss of this relationship I’m afraid of, it’s the realization that (finally having a visceral connection to my 12th house Sun), I have the responsibility to keep that “I am” central to my existence. The fear is in reaction to the amount of power I just took on. Awe would be a better word, and will, I imagine, when this roulette wheel comes to rest.

  14. I feel like I just put it all on black & spun the wheel.
Like Amanda said, I know what’s not working for me. But there’s a huge difference between having the conversation with your journal, and having it with your husband. That moment of saying aloud that “I matter to me more than my commitments matter to me.” That my priorities and sense of who I am have shifted so radically over the past year, I can no longer continue the way things are. And knowing it’s true. Knowing I really will follow this path into being everything I came here to be, wherever it takes me. That what started out as a personal healing journey has become something akin to a life’s purpose.
I just spent two transcendent weeks in the wilderness, finding my center and embracing the lessons of the accrued pain of decades. The shifts in consciousness are so far beyond anything I could have imagined. And now I hear myself saying out loud–something less than an ultimatum and more than a promise–about how what used to half-assedly work no longer does. Why is that so scary to hear yourself say??? It should be liberating, but it’s fucking scary. Dostoevsky understood it perfectly: That being in the driver’s seat is more responsibility than humans can bear. And so we build religions and governments and relationships to give our power to.
I feel like something has irrevocably changed, but I can’t see what. Obviously, it’s me.
Good god, how does any relationship survive a Uranus opposition? And mine is still 2 degrees out.

  15. Thanks so much, Len.

And bkoehler….love to read your comments and it finally came to me who you remind me of: Tim the Tool Man’s neighbor, Wilson. I hope you take that as a compliment because that’s how I offer it. Please keep posting!

  16. June 5, 2012 is the day you read my chart, Len, and the chart of one of the artists I work with just before he left on a trip for a big exhibition of his work. That date has special significance for many reasons but I know the messages you imparted to each of us has been insightful and helpful.

I hope this series of eclipses provides some needed insight around the world.

  17. “Better yet, begin talking about it now. Open a discussion with somebody who cares about you as sincerely as you care for them.”

I just did that very thing! No doubt with a little (big?) push from Mars, who has come home to roost in my natal chart.

This dovetails perfectly with Amanda’s post today, Len. Thank you.

(And yes, you got me laughing, too)

  18. Well Len, Venus WOULD probably have more than just sex on her mind when in Gemini, but leaving early to miss the traffic or take a call? That sounds more like something Mars in Gemini would do, however that’s not my field of expertise. I do love your noting the call to discuss values objectively though. Did you notice that Venus will conjunct the degree of Gemini’s Solar Eclipse last year? Of course you had, so let’s discuss it.

High on Venus’ list of values is the effort to find balance between the expressing of the masculine and feminine energies, what with her big deal occultation of the Sun last year. Could she, by echoing the solar eclipse of May 2012, be calling attention to that chart’s sextile between Pallas-Athene at 0 Aries to the Sun-Moon at 0 Gemini? It would surely makes us wonder about this year’s solar eclipse on Thursday featuring the CONJUNCTION of Sun-Moon-Pallas-Athene, wouldn’t it? (Venus is such a tease in Gemini.)

In Aries, and conjunct Uranus for quite a while, Pallas-Athene would have been exposed to the perspective of the individual (a right to bear arms comes to mind) and how much freedom individual’s who participate within a society have a right to expect. Athene has a more inclusive perspective by nature, being the protectress of the state and all. Still, Aries being so Arian and “it’s all about me”, it would have made an impact on the warrior queen. Considering all that, do you think it will sway her long-term strategy in this solar eclipse conjunction to Sun and Moon in Taurus?

Or maybe Venus is drawing our attention to the 2012 Gemini solar eclipse because her lover-boy Mars in Virgo was opposite Chiron in Pisces regarding some dithering detail that Chiron refused to overlook, and which Vesta (in Taurus) sextile Chiron and trine Mars, refused to take sides on. Now this year, Mars in Taurus is sextile Chiron in Pisces and it appears that that detail has been taken care of. In fact, their sextile aspects the U.S. Sibly Saturn (14 Libra), and insists on a high-level adjustment in the balance of power of something. For her part, this year’s eclipse Vesta is conjunct the U.S. Sibly Jupiter at 5 Cancer, putting the onus on Society to adjust those values fairly and with a broad view of the consequences. After all, once this solar eclipse is over, there will be another lunar eclipse, and it will find Jupiter only arc minutes away from Venus’ position in the 2012 Gemini solar eclipse chart. It really is all about values isn’t it?

  19. len — thanks again for this solid, clear post. and for writing what might be the funniest astrologically accurate sentence i’ve ever seen from you. at least, it certainly tickled my funny bone!

    🙂

there’s so much happening with this eclipse this week, i’m grateful we have more than one or two writers to cover it all and offer various perspectives! we’re blessed.
