Zoned Astrology: Susan Miller’s May 2013 Forecast for Libra

Did anyone catch the May 2013 Libra extended forecast by Susan Miller? The one with this quote:

Once you were done with Saturn’s tests, Uranus showed up and will remain until March 2019. Uranus is opposing your Sun directly, making a close relationship unstable, or, if that is not what is happening, you may have some temporary, but serious, concerns about your health.

Note to all Libras: watch the comment area for free access to the 2012 Libra audio birthday reading to help correct the record of this ridiculous statement.

I would also love to hear the interpretations of other astrologers and astrology students what it means to have Uranus in the solar 7th house (and apparently she’s referring to Chiron in the solar 6th vis a vis ‘serious concerns about health’, the statement of a bona fide Chiron novice). There are much more creative ways to interpret these placements.

  1. Lizzy: Great! Let us know. After posting this last night, and now seeing Len’s Article here this afternoon, I just realized we ‘all’ have Chiron in (transitioning) Pisces currently. So is relevant to explore for the interpretations apply to your house placement. Were all on this healing Journey together….

Also I would be interested to hear if Chiron is in your 6th, as I am following a connecting relevant train of thought in line with Eric’s initial question here, “what it means to have Uranus in the solar 7th house.”

  2. Thanks P Sophia! My Chiron is in Pisces, but I’ll have to check the house. A lot of what you write rings a bell with me.

  3. Calling all Chiron in Pisces in the 6th–Here’s an alternative, bit more positive spin to the placement:

6th House: Here Chiron is probably accidentally dignified and certainly Barbara Hand-Clow determines that Chiron here denotes the reincarnation of a healer (and too if Chiron is retrograde), and this placement does lend Chiron a most natural of expressions. The 6th is the house of habitual behaviours; thus it has a bearing on our daily activities – like work – but also on those kinds of habits, good and bad, which have a deterministic and cumulative effect on our physical, emotional and spiritual health. Chiron here then can represent a sensitivity to our habits and ongoing health and state of mind. Perhaps we just don’t “feel right” with Chiron here, or maybe we work too much as a means of ignoring our inability to take control of our unhealthy daily habits and chaotic routines. We may feel put upon or even victimised in our job, that nobody acknowledges our contribution, perhaps because we are being taken for granted. Chiron crossing the descendent makes an excellent placement for counsellors, healers and astrologers, (Alan Leo evinced this placement in opposition to Saturn rising at the Astrologer’s degree).

John F. Kennedy, 35th and most-loved president in US history had Chiron here applying to the Aries Point; his mission then was to heal the world and much of his vision of globally inclusive democracy was evident in his Chiron placement. His health however was torrid…

  4. I agree with you, wandering. What beats me is that it’s perfectly socially acceptable for a person to spend ages on their mobile/smart phone while in the company of another person. It’s something i just can’t do. And I can really understand the alientaion you feel, there’s nothing worse. But there are gifted, original men and women like you out there. I came across this website while hunting down stuff on the ukulele. Now I’m sure you’re not in the slightest bit interested in the ukulele – but thought you might like his style.

  5. I have Libra rising. I also have Uranus and Pluto in Libra so I’m in between the Pluto square and the Uranus opposition. Trying to grow up in Portland, or maybe anywhere in the so-called developed world is confusing to say the least. Kidults run the show, smart phones lead to people doing so many things they can’t get to know anyone very well. It’s a life of samples and taste tests. I’ve started to interact with a poly community, but all of the women are pre-Saturn return and already have a pack of males following them around. There’s no time to get to know anybody new. Feeling pretty alienated. Sure, there’s contact here and there; a hug, a conversation, but then it’s gone. That’s nature, sure. But I’m a Capricorn Sun; I seek to find craft, gong fu, cultivation of depth. “A hospital where the children’s ward is filled with toys” is the sabian symbol of my sun- yeah so many gadgets you can’t walk without stepping on one. Smart phones pretend to link people together but whenever I’m talking to someone and then they suddenly drop into screen face it seems to be to be a dissolving acid on a face to face relationship.

Is this Uranus in my 7th? Or is it just the shape of a culture driven to the edge of a cliff by marketers who won’t stop until they either control everything or kill everything trying. I suppose it’s my personal perspective noticing these things. Not everyone notices. Most don’t care. Just give me the next gadget please. Is it Portland, Oregon with its dedication to mediocrity? Is it just me? Is it consumerism? I’m having a really hard time finding the context of my adult life. I keep getting involved with kidults, can only find bands who play music for drunk people and don’t care to develop a deeper craft.

  6. With Pisces on 6th house cusp – for sure, emotional impact on health perhaps more profound than it is anyway. And – a ‘Neptune’ like potential for confusion, etc., around diagnosis – again v. right on. Good call about Chiron transit. And, surely, it is lame to sow seeds of fear or plant the notion that planetary influences are inherently negative, ESPECIALLY w/Pisces on that cusp, lol. These are very well taken points. Still seems like attack mode on Susan Miller a bit.. martial. Though my own cusps are technically very late in the preceding signs, just about all of my natal 1st and 6th are Libra/Pisces, and all the above is very consistent w/my experience. Moon in Pisc in 6th draws a big circle around the emotional impact on health, esp. & w/Virgo rising, work issues feed the whole dynamic immensely.

Sara, So far I have not said a word about Susan, only her writing; for which I’ve offered a professional and well-grounded critique. –efc

  7. Eric, your response to Liam hit the nail right on the head for me. Perfect. I learned my rising sign just 2 years ago so subtler things are coming out still. I’ve been reading Susan’s monthly since the Scorp/Taurus eclipses in 2003 and like you, she’s been very insightful. However, I am not a fan of absolute statements, and on several occasions I’ve felt unnecessary fear with her take. What I will not accept is anyone telling me I can’t do something or that the energy is coming at me like a tornado. That’s disempowering. She referred to either a recent eclipse or a Full Moon as a “Monster Moon”. I thought, really?? Really, was that necessary? And when it came, it was actually a beautiful powerful few days.

Having my solar houses adjacent to my natal houses makes it hard to discern sometimes. For instance, Uranus energy in my solar 6th hasn’t really presented itself – yet. I’m not self employed and my health is fine (2 examples). But I’ve taken more leadership roles at work which has increased my self confidence which has then reinforced my health. Uranus in my 7th has done more – huge territory covered in short bursts of experience. Chiron has been the link and constant check point between Uranus and Saturn. And every time I think I’m doing badly, I remember his mantra: ‘Every experience is helping and healing you.’

  8. You cannot really give context to an absolute statement like that, ABC. What I am saying is that there’s a real issue of ethics and overreach here. This is one field where I feel qualified to speak about, being one of the few people who writes about the creation of newspaper horoscopes, and who has thought about the ethical implications, subtle and overt, each time I’ve done so. From what I gather at conferences and elsewhere, this is rarely a consideration.

  9. Eric,

It sounds like you want Susan Miller to provide more context. I have read her forecasts on a daily and monthly basis for the last several years. She often includes comments about how we are free to respond and react to “astrological weather.” If the context you seek wasn’t adjacent to the paragraph you selected, it’s probably because she’s offered a little reminder earlier in the forecast, or in a recent forecast. In any case, I come across such reminders frequently enough so that it has come to seem like a habit or discipline for her to include it.

I find her tone consistently kind and empathetic and she often shares personal stories of what she’s experienced during one transit or another. I appreciate her writing and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without her.

Re: P. Sophia’s comment at 3:40 a.m., I feel very much the same. I am a Libra rising and when my work environment is out of sorts, I also get physically ill. This was very much the case in November and December and most of 2012. By January 2013 I was exhausted and then I got laid off and couldn’t have been more relieved. I also tend to experience transits earlier than most. Sometimes things happen as much as a year in advance and regardless of the source of the forecast, I often wonder if the experience is yet to come, or if I went through it the year before.

  10. I have Libra rising and currently Saturn is transiting my Moon in Scorpio for the second out of three times. The first transit in November/December brought up what could have been a serious health issue. I went to a specialist and was about to begin a battery of tests and decided to approach it from a spiritual perspective before going down that road. Now I am going through the second pass of Saturn and another health issue presented itself, a completely different issue. In discussions with Len regarding my solar return chart and an old friend, Roger Rubin who is a professional astrologer, I determined that dealing with this was a really about deeply personal issues including whether or not I wanted to stay here on planet Earth. I have an Aquarian sun and Venus in Pisces so the ultimate answer was I needed to continue to do my best to make a difference, regardless of what I saw happening around me.

Many years ago I was diagnosed with TB and during a reading with Uranian astrologer Maria Napoli (you can see Maria in the Mizrahi film “Unzipped,” working her wheel while discussing IM’s upcoming fashion show) she told me there were indications that it was a misdiagnosis. Because my father was a doctor, I was skeptical but Maria was right. It turned out I had sarcoidosis, an auto-immune disease, that has some similar traits as TB. I had already completed taking the meds for TB. It took a couple of years for me to realize the mistake. Ultimately, we are the captain’s of our own destiny and can switch tracks if we pay attention.

  11. “for Libra, with Pisces on the solar 6th — as a connection between emotional health and physical health, and to address the emotional/spiritual level first; the need for work that supports one’s wellbeing; the need to work in a healthy, aesthetically pleasing environment as an element of wellbeing; and others.”

Spot on for me! If I am not working in a positive minded, aestheticlly, emotionally peaceful and pleasing environment I will literally tend to feel sick. I am very affected by my environment. Which is why, so far, by far the most efficient and best atmosphere for me to work in has been in my own home, with frequent trips up and about to my garden as needed, arranging flowers, to straightening my son’s stuffed animals on his bed, meditation and prayerful moments away from work when called for and having our dog there at my feet. This has been the best balance for me.

  12. I have Chiron in Pisces, in 6th. Libra Rising and Moon in 1st house too. I am relatively new at studing astrology (year anniversary this week), but from the little i have explored, comprehended and intuitively understand, an alingement that is a personal lesson, or may be seen as a negative placement, or transit (tranisition) initially -such as a square, strong opposition, can, and most likely will, eventually become an attribute. A personal achievement overcoming and letting go, in fact i have see. In my life always holds the most potential for growth. Resulting in one’s overall personal contribution, to self and to others, collectively.

Thank you dear Eric for your love, integrity and contribution.

  13. Here are three of my comments from a Facebook thread on my personal timeline:

EFC IMO these are extremely irresponsible, unsupportable and unethical statements. The purpose of astrology isn’t to tell you you’re going through the ringer. With the perspective offered by our art, and the wisdom of its practitioners, it ought to be possible to find a way through; a creative approach. Finding and translating these solutions into language is what I do for a living.

    =

EFC Liam, those are helpful associations. I also read Uranus 7th as spontaneous interactions or attractions involving interesting or quirky people; involvement with groups that can lead to significant life changes; yes yes yes — setting oneself free from the old routines; a shift in ingrained patterns that Saturn (co)-ruled Libra can get stuck in very easily; public contact for one’s unique achievements; involvement with partners who must live as free people before they live as “half of a relationship”; awakening experiences encountered in relationships; inventing a way of relating that is unique to one’s own desires and needs; and many other accessible possibilities.

    =

EFC correction to [original draft of] of main body of post: I meant 6th house not 9th. to which I would add cross posted from PW Inc’s FB page — off the top of my head I could think of 10 different interpretations for Chiron in this house besides “serious health issues”; I have studied the Chiron transits house by house of at least 1,000 clients. And never once have I predicted health issues, nor have I ever seen this correlation any more than Chiron transiting any other house. I have interpreted this — for Libra, with Pisces on the solar 6th — as a connection between emotional health and physical health, and to address the emotional/spiritual level first; the need for work that supports one’s wellbeing; the need to work in a healthy, aesthetically pleasing environment as an element of wellbeing; and others.

    Mandy said:

Hmmm I’m a Libra rising (at 1 deg) and uh uh I’d say both the saturn thing and the serious concerns about my health – for the last 2-3 months are exactly right … (I always get hit by transits early)

    I replied:

Eric Francis Coppolino Ok so concerns about your health, Mandy, but how does it help to be told that rather than to have offered some tangible ideas for why that might be, and how to help yourself? Also there are plenty of Libras for whom this is not true; what of them? What of the ones who are, tonight, waiting for Pap or mammogram results and driven into a state of anxiety by this prediction?

This is like interpreting Pluto in the 7th as “someone might want to kill you.” Even if they did, as the astrologer it’s my job to help my client be somewhere else should that happen, and better yet, to understand the many-faceted nature of the transit that has nothing at all to do with such a simplistic, unhelpful interpretation.

Roxanne asked: So Eric, I trust you and it’s ethical to consider the worries or concerns of everyone as everyone has something, would you hold back on your interpretations with forethought regarding possible thought processes of others?

I replied: Roxanne — << would you hold back on your interpretations with forethought regarding possible thought processes of others? >>

I am not sure I understand however: I believe my role is to present a diversity of options for how to perceive something, coming up with ever more creative ideas for how to conceive of one’s reality. I spin my writing with the intent of evoking original ideas in the reader, though ones that are distinctly creative rather than driven by fear of outcomes. I consider astrology a metaprogramming tool in this regard.

    Roxanne said:

Eric – I’m stating that is it possible that your fear of how others will interpret or understand your work has you withhold or prevents you from presenting all possibilities?

I replied: Ah! You’re asking why I don’t ever predict or hint at bad things? Speaking personally, it’s my job to do something quite different with astrology. You may be assuming that there is some objective reading, or balanced reading. I think astrology is visionary and a prediction is nothing more than image in part based on the chart, and in part the astrologer’s imagination. This is an experiment in creative visualization. Our current discussion is really about the response to fear, and the creative nature of thought.

    Roxanne said:

No, I am not asking about you predicting something that could be negative or predicting in general. It’s about possibilities.

    I’ll try again – apologies.

I’m asking if you hold back information because of your fears around how the information may be used or seen?

    The two are very different.

All information or possibilities can be presented in a way that leaves the “vision” up to the client/reader.

My interpretation of what you have stated is that you hold back information/possibilities because you fear how you will present it and/or it will be

    I replied:

Roxanne, when I read it’s more about interpretation than ‘information’ meaning seeing something ‘objective’. I am reading the chart pattern for a kind of maximum value solution set, so the thing is the result of a series of thoughts wherein I am looking at the best possible approach that I see to a given setup. For me the challenge is how clearly I can see that best possible or most useful approach and leave the door open to the reader’s creativity,

As the weeks and months go on and the aspects develop, I am looking for these equations and watching how they evolve, rather than gatekeeping information; this includes in one-on-one work, which is lavishly supported by background information from my client. I am listening for the experience and awareness of the client and tailoring my approach to what will work for them were they are at, in language they will recognize.

    Comment to Mandy:

Mandy – with reference to wellness and health, the realm of medical astrology is best left to advanced practitioners working one on one, not a horoscope column. The topic is of too serious a nature, and it’s impossible to predict what the writer predicted. It is possible to give the general conditions that will influence the topic, however, and ideas for *potential wellness* and how to improve life, where to go for help, etc. Also since many people are facing health issues these days, the ‘prediction’ will have a self-fulfilling quality to it. I’ll offer one last statement about Chiron-6th-Pisces: diagnosis can be difficult, so make sure you find the right practitioner(s) and make sure you get second opinions.
