Mars square Neptune: Trust your intuition — but verify it

As Eric noted yesterday, there is a grand water trine in the sky now, with planets entering Cancer providing subtle changes in its flavor. Sometimes a grand trine, which is already all about flow, can start to feel a little bit like a whirlpool — especially in an element like water, which is itself about flow. On the one hand, this is great for getting in touch with your ‘feeling body’. On the other hand, it’s important to notice what you are getting ‘caught up in’ — especially since Mars is moving into an aspect with Neptune that could be a little tricky.

Simplified chart showing Mars conjunct Pallas Athene (exact within 32 arc minutes) in Gemini at noon EDT today. Mars and Pallas are applying in a square to Neptune in Pisces. Neptune is part of the grand water trine, with Saturn in Scorpio and Mercury and Venus in Cancer. Also shown is the Sun in mid-Gemini. The Moon in Taurus forms the tip of a ‘kite’ pattern today, as it approached the Sun in mid-Gemini. View glyph key here.

Mars in Gemini is square Neptune in Pisces (as is Pallas Athene, also in Gemini). In fact, Mars will be exactly conjunct Pallas and square Neptune for Saturday’s Gemini New Moon. Mars aspects are often a more palpable as they approach than they are when they’re exact, so this is a good one to watch for and get a handle on now — or as soon as you start feeling it.

What does Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces feel like? It may take the form of a question, or a subtly nagging doubt: “Can I really trust my feelings/intuition?”

The answer — especially with the grand water trine in the background, amplifying our feelings — is: “Yes — but verify it, and remember that not everyone is honest.”

Since squares are generally felt internally, you have to account for your own denial, too. This is where many of us can trip ourselves up and get stuck in a perpetual loop of second-guessing and self-doubt. Is this dream really my heart’s desire? Am I just co-opting what everyone else seems to want (or thinks I should want)? Am I stuck in a vision of past desires that no longer fit who I am now?

The grand trine is a multiplier, so you’ll want to be careful what you get caught up in. If you find yourself in conflict with yourself, check in: are you sure you’re arguing about what you think you’re arguing about? What does your intuition say about the real issue?

You may have to sidestep the mental level of this inner dialogue in order not to get caught up in a loop. That may mean ‘going deeper’ through techniques like meditation, yoga or energy-clearing modalities. Or since Mars is involved, it could be that physical exercise can ground you, tuning you in to your body’s wisdom. Breathing deeper, sweating out some toxins and energizing yourself on a cellular level is never a bad thing.

Moments of clarity can come at odd moments, and often they’re a result of directing the mind away from the issue at hand just enough so that our inner peripheral vision can perceive and receive what we already know to be true. When it comes to disrupting patterns of mental and emotional stuckness, sometimes simply altering how we usually move through physical space can open up a new pathway for understanding, insight and a sense of alignment with ourselves. (Thanks to Sarah Taylor for introducing that idea yesterday.)

If possible, take steps this week to directly address any tension you’re feeling. But if trying to decide how to solve the tension leads to paralysis, do something else differently that’s totally unrelated to the issue. That’s when intuition and feeling-sense can carry you along constructively, rather than getting you caught in an emotional whirlpool. The idea is to feel good — but to be honest with yourself in doing so, rather than trying to escape any unpleasantness.

  1. Mars square Neptune isn’t happening in a vacuum either. In fact on Friday when Mars conjuncts Pallas-Athene, the goddess with the Plan, and they both square Neptune who is stationing retrograde. . . .
    1) Moon will conjunct Mars (and Athene), square Neptune and sextile Uranus,
    2) Mercury will exactly oppose Pluto, and
    3) Venus will exactly trine Neptune and Saturn.

All the inner planets (excluding the Sun), as well as Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto will be drawn into the action on this Friday, June 7th, 2013. Everyone of the traditional major planets, except Jupiter and the Sun are active. Is Jupiter sitting this one out? There are no major planets in the sign he rules (although plenty of minor ones), and the sign he co-rules, Pisces, is currently inhabited by Neptune, the other co-ruler of that sign. And Jupiter is least at home in his present sign, Gemini. So why is Jupiter taking a back seat at this time?
    1) is he turning over the reins/reigns to his wife Queen Juno?
    2) has his mission in Gemini already been accomplished?
    3) is he taking a break before moving into Cancer?

Except for the Moon, transiting Jupiter has made no major contact with another major planet since he was conjunct Mercury (5/27) and Venus (5/28) and won’t do so again until the Sun conjuncts him on June 19th. That’s 3 whole weeks without contacting anyone, and then he won’t make contact again until after he moves into Cancer on June 25. Jupiter has effectively left the building until his June 19th meeting with the Sun for all intent and purposes, and even the Sun will be keeping a low profile after the New Moon on June 8th.

My guess is that everyone (Mercury, et. al.) has been given their instructions regarding this transitional period (Gemini) and everyone will be hitting the Cancer deck running until further ordered. Do you feel less pressure these days, like maybe the bosses are out on retreat? The eclipses are over and we are still picking up the pieces from that period, but there does seem to be a certain calm in the air.

So, just a few reminders that:
    1) the nodes are still in their holding pattern with the May 2012 Solar Eclipse’s Ceres in Taurus – south node conjunct, north node opposite – so expect more reminders that Mother Nature is sick and tired of being abused and the south node will remain at 16+ Taurus for another 18 days.

    2) the conjunction of Mars + Pallas Athene this Friday happens in the same degree as the May 2012 Solar Eclipse’s south node (5+ Gemini), and note that they are square Neptune in Pisces. South nodes are the path to nowhere and Neptune/Pisces signal the end of the cycle. If you must fight, fight for change, not the same old, same old.

    3) Friday’s opposition between Mercury (10+ Cancer) and Pluto (10+ Capricorn) will carry the vibes of Mars from the May, 2012 Solar Eclipse chart at 10+ Virgo. That Virgo Mars will trine trans. retro Pluto and sextile trans. Mercury, so any negotiations for coming to an agreement will be influenced by those troubling events when Mars was in Virgo.

Enjoy the calm, gets your ducks in a row and prepare for some serious nurturing in the not-to-distant future.

  2. Amanda: Thank you so very much for a timely guide and set of options to make an inner Mars something we can own (as opposed it it owning us), and turn to productive use under our current circumstances on Earth and in the sky.
