The Second Full Moon

Today is Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011. The Moon is still full tonight and into tomorrow. It will be in Aries until it arrives in Taurus later tonight at 9:35 pm EDT. So if you’ve been too busy to commemorate this in some way, there’s still plenty of time to take a little while out and meditate, cast some tarot cards or runes, or simply get outside under the moonlight and listen.

The Full Moon energy continues well into the week as the Moon opposes Saturn, Juno and Mercury in Libra — then makes a conjunction to Jupiter in Taurus, and opposes Venus in Scorpio. While this happens, the Sun makes an opposition to the new planet Eris.

The Full Moon is the energy of an opposition aspect, and this series of aspects certainly carries on the vibe. True, the Moon conjunct Jupiter has a little New Moon energy mixed in as well. Any way you look at it, we go from taking a ride along the Aries-Libra axis to taking one on the Taurus-Scorpio axis as the week progresses. This shifts the emphasis from identity to values. Values are how we express our identity, rather than just talk about it or think about it. So look for the ways you put your beliefs and ideas into practice this week. Observe what you do and see if your inner reality matches your outer reality.

Yet we’re not exactly out of Libra yet, and there is no rush. The Sun is about to make a conjunction to Saturn Thursday afternoon, which as it approaches calls for some discipline, focus and restraint amidst all of this polarized energy. Think of Sun-Saturn as sunglasses that cut the glare and let you focus on what is important with much else going on. You may feel ‘restricted’ by what you have to do, but if you work with that restriction, you may get to experience it as a point of clarity.

We are talking about Saturn in Libra, one of the very best signs for Saturn (the sign where it’s exalted or has extra dignity). This aspect is about restoring balance, getting an internal understanding of the idea of fairness, and applying some ethics to the various situations in your life. And yes Sun-Saturn can be about high focus with a touch of ambition at the expense of less important things. If you feel like you’re missing something, remember the wise words of Patric Walker: “Saturn always gives more than it takes away.”

With Venus and Jupiter in opposition, you might want to be especially careful with money. This is one of those weeks to not buy things you don’t really need.

It’s also a week to pay attention to non-verbal communication. Mercury is currently trine Neptune, giving our unconscious (or higher planes of consciousness) a conduit into conscious thought. Take note of ideas that come to you in dreams or though intuition, or that just seem to be ‘in the air’. With Neptune in late Aquarius (the sign of the individual in the collective) and Mercury in Libra (justice), it’s no wonder the Occupy Everything movement is spreading the way it is. It is speaking to many on a subtle channel — in addition to more tangible ways — being carried on the very air (or air signs) as it were. If you engage in any Full Moon ritual or meditation, Mercury-Neptune may steer you toward especially creative or poetic expressions of the energy; stay receptive.

The Full Moon leads inevitably to the New Moon, and they come quickly these days. The next one of those happens in early Scorpio on Oct. 26. That event is an interesting critter. It’s set against a different backdrop (Sun in Scorpio), and the season will have a different feeling. The Scorpio New Moon is conjunct two asteroids — Nemesis and Atlantis. That feels little ominous, as if we’re being called upon to really notice the ways in which we can be self-destructive, and how we need to make some improvements to how we handle the emotional landscape. We won’t know what that’s about until we’re a bit closer to the time, and we won’t see that aspect come to full fruition until the Taurus Full Moon one month from now on Nov. 10.

  1. haha….yr pix is more like Aries on the Moon; the green shape is like a rams head against the white “full moon” – creative little critters, them.

  3. More good words, good food for head and heart. Thanks, All.

My son turns 18 on the 26th. Venus and Merc are already beginning the passing of the (soon to be formerly) Libra stellium over his Natal sun at 3 Scorpio….which is the first of his personal stelilum of 4 major planets along with a handful of asteriods (3rd house).

He’s had a tough go of it so far – and the past 6 months may have been the hardest. We shall see what this New Moon brings.
    xo
