Good morning and…

Good morning.

Today I’m working on Friday’s edition of Planet Waves Astrology News, our client service. The free blog you see here is part of a larger project, which is providing astrological services to our clientele.

Because I’m finishing up my first issue after a couple of weeks’ break, I won’t be blogging today (perhaps late tonight). Friday’s edition looks into the extraordinary astrology of spring 2010, which begins Saturday in most time zones. I include a comparison to the astrology of 1969, as well as many details that will help you make the most of events that will be historic — whether on a personal scale or on a collective one; and both are related.

I suggest you familiarize yourself with the new links to the right side of the page, and you’re invited to visit the mini-photo gallery on the homepage. These improvements are designed to help you figure out where you are and what our purpose is as a web project.

Planet Waves has published continually since 1998. Two other directly related projects preceded Planet Waves, going back to 1996. Not a lot of websites can say that. We have endured partly because I am so focused and determined, and because the theory at the core of Planet Waves is one whose time is arriving.

Have a look around, and your comments on these site improvements are welcome.

  1. Dear BK, so good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your tooth – that does not sound like fun at all. And tooth pain, jaw pain, can be unlike any other – so utterly distracting.

Thank you ALL for feedback on Sabian symbols, very useful, very interesting. I will track down these books etc and see what’s what. I found on a list that my Sun was 16 degree Cancer in the 11th house – ‘A man studying a Mandala in front of him, with the help of a very ancient book.’ So of course, I must know more.

And many happy returns to all you lovely fishies – I just realised that you are the only fish I know. Out of all the people in my immediate world; friends, family, clients, there are NO fish! And any I have met, though I haven’t put it down to astrology, we just haven’t connected at all – nada – and I could not say why.

Well, it is only the story so far. Love.

  2. Lynda Hill. . . that’s the one. Thanks! Here’s another guy I think has an interesting take on these same symbols. His name is Blain Bovee and here are 2 links. The first one will list all the symbols if you change the last # . For example page/27/ will get you to some Cancer symbols, while page/10/ will get you Sagittarius 21-30. Page 1 is for Pisces 20-29.

Just heard Rachel Maddow say that the Democrats posted their healthcare bill revisions on the web at 2:07 PM (she said it twice) so I think I will look at the chart for that time and try to get some clues. She said that the soonest it can be voted on is 72 hours after the posting.

  3. Carrie, yes – don’t be too literal, although sometimes it can seem that way. I agree with Barbara and the Dane symbols interpretation this time! The rush of spring and feelings can jar a lot of people, but you are clearly at ease with sexuality. I just envisioned pisces 04 as guiding people through the joy of relationships. Like when you are on a vacation and leave your worries at home, that is how relationships should be all the time. Sparkling!

I keep trying to think how it differs in Australia and in other down under places. I visited Cancun once in early February. Even though it was hot, it still seemed like winter because the pace was slow. So i wondered if their winters are energetic, even though the days are shorter?

  4. Carrie,

I’m sorry, I should have given you Rudhyer’s view of that same image for 4 Pisces (3+ degrees). Here it is:

Keynote: the mobility and intensity of interchanges which make possible and characteize complex social processes.

“. . . .the need to establish unceasing dynamic relationships between all aspects and functions of the social life.”

He describes an “isthmus”, as a narrow strip of land separating the sea from a lagoon (in this case) and says: the proximity of the sea stresses the collective nature of social experiences and what may appear to be “individual” achievements. He calls the symbol “traffic”; social results based on an interchange of ideas. Kinda what we do here. Does this sound like you?

  5. I remember you telling us about that story Patty! Didn’t know she was latino though…or at least I don’t remember that part.

Eric, that’s a really good idea. . .maybe we could compare the different versions of Sabian Symbols on specific degrees and try to figure out how on target each was in specific incidences. It’s one of those times I like specifics!

No surprises there. . . .Mercury and a spectacular performance. I do as you said, respect the original translation of the (same) symbols by Marc Edmund Jones and understand why Patty and others resonate well with his descriptions. Rudhyar refers to his work as “a reinterpretation” of Jones’ images of the symbols.

One other astrologer has a web site that has been referred to here with her own interpretations of the Sabian Symbols. . wish I could remember her name, but when my computer went down, it took all my “favorite sites list” with it. Maybe someone else will provide it.

I know I recently found still another individual who has a completely different take on the symbols. Not a site, but a reference to this person’s interpretation of a particular degree. When I looked it up in An Astrological Mandala” it was no where near the same. I’ll try to remember where I saw that.

  6. Patty,

It sounds like mine means I carry something safely; people, information, ideas, whatever along rather narrow (precarious?) channels. I am not sure what the two “sparkling with life” resorts allude to though or the “holiday traffic” for that matter. :::scratching head::: I think I am thinking too literally though I am usually good at symbolism and intuition.

Seems a lot of fishy people (and people with fishiness within) hang around here, myself included. It’s a school! :::grin:::

  7. Oh and I had absolutely nothing to do with her getting fired. I recommended her for a position in another state in fact, but when she got there she treated her co-worker the same as she did me, and harassed some of the workers and filed charges against her boss! they fired her!

  8. Last night I was in Woodstock (where I am now) poring over the Marc Edmund Jones version of the Sabian symbols, planning a blog post on the subject. Why don’t we begin with a basic explanation of what they are: a set of symbols that are assigned to each degree of the zodiac, channeled by Marc Jones and a clairvoyant named Elsie Wheeler.

There are 360 degrees (30 per sign) and each degree has a symbol. These symbols provide a modern frame of reference for astrologers to interpret any degree, like a set of Tarot cards that adorn the wheel. It’s fun to look at your degree rising, the degree of your Sun, Moon and other key planets.

The degree of my Mercury, 18 Pisces, is: “In a gigantic tent, villagers witness a spectacular performance.” Go figure.

There are two main versions of the Sabians — the original done by Jones in 1925, and a revision by one of his colleagues, Dane Rudhyar, published in 1973. Most astrologers who favor one version of the other have deep respect for the other one. It’s not a matter of either/or but rather a matter of the history of the symbols.

Many of the symbols have helped me understand the nature of the astrological signs. We find out that Pisces is mingled up with the idea of commerce and markets. We find out how much a good sense of humor helps you approach all things Scorpio. We discover that Aquarius is connected with the idea of one’s soul group.

My own preference is for Dane Rudhyar’s version (An Astrological Mandala), with several reasons — he takes a humanistic approach, and speaks in psychological language that’s more familiar to us. He uses shorter sentences and is better able to relate clear ideas. But I love reading Marc Jones’ ideas, and he was the innovator and the inventor — worth exploring.

  9. BK I really idolize you for figuring everything out! You remind me of the scientists I process in at work. I have little patience for the meticulous ways to tell the truth! I go from point a to point z and skip all that is in between, having intuited what I want from the situation!

I don’t have any knowledge of the sabian symbols, but unlike most astrolgers, i prefer the original set by Marc Edmund. It speaks to me emotionally, or intuitively I guess.

When I had Saturn at the degree of Leo 6 “A sweet old-fashioned belle and a pert and attractive little modern flapper, stand in mutual envy of each other” I was working with a very sharp and flashy latina lady who mesmerized everyone, but she was an idea thief. Even though I liked her, she was jealous of me and i ended up very angry. She ended up getting fired for a lot of reasons. It just never pays to run over someone, because we were a lot alike and should have been life-long friends. That is why astrology can help if you aren’t fearful of it. Bless the good and the bad, or at least forgive yourself when you start calling everyone names (guilty).
Dane Rudyard’s symbols are ok – but for me there is a shift in the energy, like a cloth torn, and I don’t get it. Is that weird?

  10. Hello HazelF and all,

In true Pisces fashion, I don’t know what the subject is. . exactly! Even though I’ve only a Pisces rising, I love the spirit, glamour, compassion and feeling of the fishes. I do long for specifics though. . .sometimes.

If the subject is Sabian, I hear interpretations from several sources that seem pretty easy to grasp, but I stick with my hero, Dane Rudhyar’s version of the symbols.

If it’s guessing who’s birthday Musicman alludes to I’m not at all sure.

Yesterday must have been Patty’s BD. . . 26+? (degrees, not years!) HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATTY! Rudhyar says: The Harvest Moon Illumines a Clear Autumnal Sky . .The light of fulfillment that blesses work well done. Key Word: Consummation.

The only other Pisces I’m sure is a Pisces is Eric, and I thought his birthday was March 10. If so, that would be 20+ degrees, or Pisces 21 degree: (Rudhyer) “Under the watchful and Kind Eye of a Chinese Servant, a girl fondles a Little White Lamb.” Keynote – Growth in consciousness in its earliest tactile awareness of the wonders of unsophisticated living. or “…a hope for a future that can only be felt. . ”

But here is one reason why I swear by Rudhyer, and Hazel, thanks for your kind words, and as to how things are going, I’ve had an on-going and off-going problem with a crowned tooth and the gum underneath. My Pluto is at 0+ degree of Leo. That’s where transiting Mars is and has been, where it stationed, and where it will continue to be for some time.

Rudhyer says of 1 Leo: Blood Rushes To A Man’s Head As His Vital energies Are Mobilized Under The Spur Of Ambition” or “The energies of the biological drives as they irrupt (KEYWORD!) more or less forcefully (another KEYWORD!) into the field of consciousness. I can think of better ways to do this than continued antibiotics and trips to the dentist. But I can also think of worse ways. Oh well!

Love you one and all and looking forward to the promise of future Spring.
    be

  11. BK – are you out there somewhere? Seems ages since we heard from you. Hope all is alright in your world.

As another wonderful teacher, you are also very knowledgable on all things Sabian. Is there any literature you and Patty (and/or anyone) recommend on the subject?

    Love, Hazel.

  12. If you’re talking about the numbers of the degrees, they work like years. There is no degree zero. Hence, anything from 01″ Aries to 1.00 Aries is the first degree of Aries. Everything from 1 degree 01″ to 2.00 Aries is the second degree of Aries. There is no rounding involved.

This is similar to how 2000 was the last year of the 20th century. As soon as you get to 2001 it’s the first year of the 21st century.

  13. Carrie, everything I have read says to look at the next symbol. I think yours is very apt, based upon your writing and input. One fish to another! I am a Pisces 27

Pis 04 The narrow isthmus between two summer resorts both sparkling with life carries crowded holiday traffic safely.

Pis 27 The harvest moon rises superbly in the east and the light of day is shamed by the colors of an autumnal evening.

As Pisces, we are alike, but life- focused differently.

  14. Oh, is THAT what’s going on? ::::big grin::::: From this February Fish to you: Happy Solar Return then! When is it? Today? Tomorrow? Friday? Whenever it is, enjoy that day!

And thanks for all that you do!

This being the Irish/Celtic Pride day, Happy Day to everyone here at PW for both! Feel the spring tides rising, the blood rushing in, the swelling of the seeds, the fullness of burgeoning life beginning? ::::fanning self:::: Whew, I love spring! It is coming…..only a few days left until Spring Equinox; Ostara.

  15. Without giving too much away…..somewhere in the next 48 hours……….somebody I know has a solar return…..its the number 28 that keeps ringing!!

A fantastic job Eric….there are many who are already indebted to that focus and determination….including myself. If I can peer into the future for just a moment, it is fairly certain that 21st century astrology will reflect on these profoundly revolutionary days with an acknowledgement to a man who has a very special gift…… a talent that has been refined with a monumental amount of hard work…… and an understanding of what it takes to energise and motivate the human spirit!

Or was it simply too much acid at the Ministry of Funny Walks?

    With love

On behalf of all who treasure the breath of life……
