Planet Waves FM : What a Year!

Eric on 12/28/11

I’ve just finished this year’s last (regular) edition of Planet Waves FM. I recap some of what happened in 2011 and how far we’ve come in a year — from the Tucson shootings to Fukushima to Occupy — and how this is just a warmup for 2012.

You’ll get some hints about 2012 astrology, deepening the discussion of Uranus square Pluto. This is the 2012 aspect, part of the epochs of revolution that we’ve been describing for so long.

For the song break, I reprise the song Fingers by Roxy Rawson, and take a look at her natal chart. Then I look at the super interesting current astrology, including Sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, and Mercury conjunct Pholus. All in all, this podcast might be a pleasant way to spend an hour, worth it entirely for Roxy. I’ve just looked at her website — she’s raising money to mix and master her first CD. If you’re someone in a position to help out — I am sure she would be most grateful for that.

This is the last regular edition of Planet Waves FM but I’ll see you later in the week with the last installment in the Top Five Events of 2012.

Here is your program in the old player, where you’ll find the full archives and a downloadable zip file.

Lovingly,
Eric Francis

Note to readers — there are many more podcasts, the full archives, recordings and interviews from astrology conferences and much more at the Planet Waves FM homepage.

  1. I liken the “end of the time” of the Mayan calendar to the way Hebrew scriptures have been used. Everyone seems to forget that the Hebrew scriptures tell THEIR story; the story of the Hebrew people as they became a distinct entity in a sea of Semitic peoples. So any writing they did about their adventures and beliefs really applies to THEM, not to all of humanity.

Fast forward to the Mayan calendar. The Mayan calendar applies to THEM, not to all of humanity. So this means it affects them. Programs like to cite the last time the Mayan calendar hit a turning by saying the Mayans were decimated by Europeans at that time. Well there you go; the Mayans were decimated, not all humanity. Sure, other native peoples in the area were also decimated but not ALL humanity on the planet, just those in the region and those who were culturally similar (being native cultures of the Americas).

The astrology of the same time period does affect all humanity because astrology was not just a belief system of only one set of people or culture. So if I were a betting person, I would bet on the astrology, not the Mayan calendar.
    Just saying.

  2. @Green Star-gazer…..you brought to mind a very good U.S. History teacher I had in recent years. She once suggested that it’s been common, at least in U.S. history, for people to get somewhat apocalyptic in thought at the turn of the century. Something BIG is going to happen…things will change….I’m sorry I can’t remember the context of her lecture when that came up. It’s just one of many interesting things she said (in the course of 3 classes I took with her) that has stuck in my mind. I sometimes run in to her…next time I do I will certainly bring this up. She is passionate about history and is always happy to discuss.

  3. A fabulous wrap-up, Eric, thank you for so much to chew on!

    You asked for audience input on stand-out break-though events which took place in between the initial Uranus-Pluto conjunction and now and I think there have been many, but they are perhaps so much a part of our collective now that they do not seem all that revolutionary… here are some of my favs, in no particular order;

    – reaching the Moon
    – the Harmonic convergence event ( our first global consciousness in same-time event experiment)
    – “Sky Lab” and its offspring: ISS (International Space Station)
    – MTV
    – the development of the personal computer and the Internet and all the technology stuff that has branched off from this general idea. The way personal computers have changed commerce, social connections and personal power is a wave that is still shaping itself. The individual can now DO so much more than anyone has ever been able to do before all by themselves thanks to the Silicon chip and the platforms and software to run them.
    – the “New Age” movement… I know there have been other times in history when spiritualism has waxed and waned, but this era saw such an upwelling of such astonishing diversity and now much is simply socially accepted as second nature… now thing like “yoga” and “meditation” are considered fairly mainstream…at least in urban environs
    – The Berlin Wall came down and Eastern Europe was able to begin to wake up from it’s nap
    – The Star Trek series emerged and took hold for an incredibly long and successful run. For all its silliness, this series gave us a positive vision of the future, especially with TNG series where intelligence and diplomacy was held in high esteem rather than the former cowboy-hero mentality which we had in the original series.

Those are some of the events that have a particularly cutting-edge/evolutionary-edge feeling to me.

As for your general 2012 question and more specifically about John Major Jenkins, I’ve always been deeply suspicious about anyone who is trying to cash in on any of the Maya-2012 stuff for their own personal gain and he is one of those that I put into that group. JMJ sounds like he followed in the footsteps of Terrance McKenna quite a bit only is taking it further and more egoically than Terrance ever dreamed of doing.

What I have never understood about ANY of these people that promote the Mayan calendar/culture/”prophecies” as some sort of evidence of an “enlightened” teaching from an advanced civilization is how they can ignore the MANY (hundreds?) of thousands of human sacrifices that were committed by this supposedly enlightened civilization all in the name of their religion. One (whether an individual or a culture) does not participate in such a heavy injustice against the sacredness of Life and not get called out for it…. yet everyone seems to just gloss over this archaeological fact… this culture (or those in position of power) used fear and terror to build their civilization and they killed tens of thousands of helpless and enslaved people for their religious/political means. How can anyone ignore that that basic fact while trying to elevate their (either their own or the Mayan) supposed spiritual advancement. To me, there is something very wrong with glossing over this culture of blood and death and calling it an enlightened civilization. But then, like the Egyptians in their time, the Chinese in theirs, the Romans in their and now, probably the USA in this time – one could argue that great advancements have been made, but not without a deep and dark shadow shrouding those successes/advancements. I just wish we could all not forget the human cost of these “enlightened” civilizations… our own most especially.

As for what the “end” of the Mayan calendar may mean… well, it’s kind of amusing in some ways because those of us who were curious about Caleman’s work WERE rather astonished to track current events with his theory and there were some astonishing synchronizations to be sure. But his theory had things grind to a halt at the end of October of this year…and as far as I know, nothing really profoundly obvious has happened around or since that date, nothing worthy of time-ending proportions, that is.
BTW, does anyone remember all the hype and hoopla over the changing of the century from 1999 to 2000? That one made a heck of a lot more sense given all the dependency we have on digital data, even back then… but this 12-21-2012 stuff just seems rather whipped up. I mean, there ARE other calendars out there, many of them in use to this day and they are not going to “end”. Why have we become so fixated on this one method of tracking time from one ancient and blood-obsessed civilization? Perhaps because we are unconsciously aware of the profound changes that we WILL be going thru as is suggested by the stars…or rather, astrology.
If one believes that we have “signed up” for this incarnation, in some way or another, then we must all have had some awareness that we wanted to be a part of this grand transformation experiment in some large or small way….perhaps it is this underlying deep-conscious remembrance that has us all a bit edgy now and ready to fix our gaze on some marker, some buoy in the river of Space-time and say to one another “Oh look, see that marker? That means we’ve got some big, turbulent stuff up ahead. Better wake up and pay attention!” and perhaps THAT is what the stone calendar’s role really is for our collective.
Personally, I’ve always thought that the “end” of the Mayan calendar meant that the time barrier would be broken. It already has loads of cracks… just waiting for that final “ping” to shatter all our ideas about what we think “Time” (and thus space) means. I SOOOooo hope that happens!

  4. Thanks Eric for a great podcast and into to the songwriter! Really enjoyed the music. Thanks for the lyrics too!

  5. Linda, the dark rift is very close to the GC. Three degrees is a huge amount of space. But I am not even convinced that it’s aligned anywhere near the dark rift. Which is certainly not three degrees FROM the GC. That’s a ridiculous amount of space…

  6. Roxy just sent in the lyrics to Fingers.

This is a quest for getting closer to the colours
This is quest for getting closer to the colours
And the sky and the sign and its pouring over
    And it’s pouring over

And I would say hold it between your fingers and I would say hold it between your fingers

There is nothing to take away
And it’s strange and not clearer and yet brighter
And not definitely over, and not definitely over

And I would say hold it between your fingers and I would say hold it between your fingers

This is a quest for getting closer to the colours
This is quest for getting closer to the colours
In the sky and the signs and its pouring over
    And it’s pouring over

And I would say hold it between your fingers and I would say hold it between your fingers
And I would say hold it

  7. I have a 2012 question for anyone who cares to have a gander at it — have you heard of the work of John Major Jenkins? He’s one of the most respected 2012 guys around.

His 2012 theory is in part based on an astronomical idea. He always talks about how the “position of the winter solstice Sun” i.e., the Sun aligned with the Tropic of Capricorn or 00 Capricorn, is currently aligned with the “dark band” at the center of the Milky Way. And this, he uses as justification for the significance of 2012, from an astronomical standpoint.

However, the position of the winter solstice Sun is three degrees or the width of six full moons away from the galactic center, so I don’t see how this can be possible — but nobody that I’ve heard has called him out on this. With that distance between the position of the Sun on solstice vs the galactic core, we are really talking about a fudge factor of about 250 +/- years of precessional movement. The GC is well known to be at 27 Sagittarius.

So what are we to make of this discrepancy?
