Even More Getting Real: Fritz Perls and Lilith

LINK TO THE PROGRAM

In this week’s edition of Planet Waves FM, I interview Chani Nicholas, a San Francisco based astrologer and scholar. However, before we go there, I give a tribute to Fritz Perls, co-founder of Gestalt therapy whose 120th birthday was July 8.

Here is Tracy Delaney’s explanation of the astronomy behind the Black Moon Lilith, which are points associated with the somewhat erratic and unstable orbit of the Moon.

Our musical guest is Sloan Wainwright. I play two of her older songs — you can listen to her new CD on her homepage.

One reader commented on the Cancer birthday reading:

“Just listened to my Cancer horoscope — best money I’ve ever spent … As always, I’m knocked for six by your extraordinary gift, your love and care — and this time there was an added sense of joy because we’re moving into a different era and leaving the hardships of these years behind, but taking with us the determination and resources that have been built up over this time. I LOVE your take on Mercury retrograde and the shamanic type journey – makes so much sense and helps me open up to a pretty emotionally testing time right now. You describe so perfectly what I’ve been through and show me the wonderful things that are on their way, and already a sea change has taken place in my life, though it’s still not easy.”

  1. DivaCarla:

Loved your comments regarding the potential of Lilth’s creativity acting as fertile compost too! I think part of the story about her children’s death– is she actually eats them. This sure sounds empowering growth…Literally taking in and processing through, very liberating, even ‘Nodish’. Destroying to regenerate anew.

  2. Eric (and to your guest Chani), finally had a chance to listen to this and want to thank you both for such a fascinating and enlightening discussion! There is so much here to absorb and dissolve! I am not sure if I understand all the Liliths yet, but will continue to study to grasp.

The part that jumped out for me the most was in finding the balance and autonomy with our Lilith. My natal Lilith is at 20.31 Sag, in 3rd and is in exact opposition to my Venus/Mars conjunction at 20.52 and 20.31 Gemini in 9th. I would love to have your input and comment on these placements and the opposition Eric.

I see and believe now in alignment to my astrology chart placements, my life choices have absolutely been in a ‘Stand’ (thank you, Sloan Wainwright for your beautiful poetry in music). Although, surrounding this issue and away from co-dependency in relationship has made it difficult in retaining a hetero relationship with our society’s interpretation of what is out there and felt acceptable to most women and men today. I am still viewed with an underling tone by many, (in my family even) as ‘what’s wrong with you must be lonely without a man to take care of you’. Not to mention the resentment, suspicion (by both men and women) directed at me.

“Adam gets pissed when Lilith leaves him…” and rightly, courageously she chooses her own alignment to subduction.

Although living this has made it challenging to find a man who respects my power, reflection in growth of autonomy in relationship for the longer term. I still feel vindicated in the statement, ‘I wont live a lie’, and consequently until there is someone who also embraces this expression in themselves, it has been my life path to continue on my own.

  3. I have a whole new Lilith to relate to now. I first met Lilith through personal revelation, working through stuff in my own life. The little mythic information I had came from M. Kelly Hunter’s article on The Dark Goddess Lilith in TMA.

I am so grateful to have Chani Nicholas’ expansive knowledge of Lilith Archetype. I love the cross cultural stories that illuminate her meaning, and how her story parallels the Goddess choosing self-exile as patriarchy amped up its smear campaign. It explains the mystery of how She could let that happen. These stories affirm what Len and others here have written about Lilith standing for integrity at great cost.

About her prolific creativity, her creation story as told in Hunter’s article offers a perspective. Adam was made of pure earth, and Lilith was made of impure dirt. He seized on that when he attempted to place himself above (literally on top of) Lilith: “You are made of impure clay.” I take this to mean Lilith is made of humus, fertile compost necessary so that life can grow. She is the ground of creation. Lilith is fertile, it is her nature to be a prolific creator. It is her curse that all her children die. We know it as having our creations and ideas belittled, besmirched, insulted, ignored, destroyed, suppressed — and stolen. The great boy god committed that affront, didn’t he.

I can’t wait till you speak with Chani again. I can’t wait to hear what others got from the podcast.

The tribute to Fritz Perls was also fine. He’s outshined by the Dark Goddess today.
