I remember it as a smash hit (wasn’t it?) and in a Goldie Hawn film (did I make that up?).
Very upbeat still…
BREAKING:
No direct evidence of Russian government involvement in downing of flight MH 17. Though there is still the matter of Russia’s arming the rebels who shot the plane down…
Really, Eric, thanks for lightening things up. This weekend was a bear.
This song was released when I lived in the West Village. For all the places I’ve lived since, I’ve never felt more at home – and talk about “earthy”, there was a good deal of normalcy. even then. to what we see in this video (or what felt like people being “normal” or at ease) –although I probably didn’t notice too many “indian” headdresses on the street on a M-F basis. lol. Good story Fe. Recently had friends dress as the Village People for the West Hollywood parade (Halloween). Fun, but not the same.
Anyway, “good times!”.
My fave is when they played this at the SF Giants games when they were still at Candlestick. Everybody got up and did full-body letter shapes for the “Y”, the “M”, the “C” and the “A”.
It was a way to keep warm during a night game.
It’s funny that what once seemed so outrageous or over the top now seems perfectly down to Earth and organic. And the basic message of the song is, don’t be lonely! come on over, hang out, have sex, have dinner…
Ah, the McBurney Y! Memories and stories….where I stepped on Al Pacino’s contact lens in the stairwell after a paddle-ball game…
They don’t need costume changes! They’re alllll costumed up! 😀 So great.
I long for the day when such a campy video could be a smash hit. They don’t even change costumes once!
