Axis is another word we can pull out of the muck (where it was deposited by the immediately previous presidential administration), clean up and reclaim. Though it be of four letters, it is not a dirty word. It is the the center around which something turns or is arranged. A still, fixed reference point of perception from which perspective can be attained.
In the time zones of continental North America, the weekend begins with the waxing Moon (just past the first quarter) making its monthly crossing of the biggest Axis we know of – the galactic center. Looking up at the night sky with the unaided eye, very nearly every light we can see is of our galaxy. The galactic center is a gravitational and energetic phenomenon that gives us and all those lights something in common, binding us together literally and figuratively. When aspected, it touches on that theme in ways so big and powerful that our mind alone has difficulty understanding or expressing them.
The Moon is literally and figuratively an object of reflection. Lit by the Sun, it illuminates the night as well as the feelings, personalities and processes inside of us. Combine the inside of us with what we all have in common and there is an opportunity to bring ourselves to the still point of the axis and visualize the concept of one with as self evident. Eyes thus opened, the power of love, the importance of tolerance and a source of healing may be there to behold, there for the taking.
While the Moon is crossing the galactic center, the Sun is at 6 degrees Virgo. The sabian symbol for that point is “Children’s voices and the smiles of elders; it is a merry go round with blatant music and unrestrained joyousness”. This would seem to reinforce the idea of an axis around which we can share of our joy and unity as one in our experiences.
In another major aspect for this weekend, Mercury (slowing to about half a degree a day) exacts a square to Mars (actually, beginning very late Friday). This implies that tensions inside ourselves may seek resolution through energetic communication, maybe some of them not so nice. Would it be too much suggest that there is an opportunity as well as a danger here? Is it possible for each of us to be aware of that energy and take conscious control of it? Perhaps turning some of it to listening? Perhaps being proactive in acknowledging and supporting others as they communicate tensions that we may recognize as also our own?
From now until Mercury stations retrograde on September 7th, Eric will be participating at Burning Man, an event where people gather in a hostile wilderness and thrive through the practice of a gift economy and paying it forward. It would be fitting if everyone reading this could find a way to allow Eric and Planet Waves to benefit from the same principles that inform Burning Man. i think you know what i mean.

CORRECTION: In a comment I made on Sunday (8/30 @ 8:09 pm) I said that the New Moon at 25 + Pisces would conjunct Obama’s Uranus. That should be the New Moon would conjunct his Pallas Athena at 25+ Pisces, which would in turn affect his Uranus at 25+ Leo. So sorry!

Where there’s Pluto, there’s depth (and sometimes oil) and the Lockerbie crash chart Sun was at 0 Capricorn, along with Uranus, Saturn, Neptune (hmmm) and Mercury.

er, uh, one other thing I forgot to mention. You know how when transiting Jupiter reaches the Senator’s north node (in May) at the same time transiting Mercury is conjunct his nadir? Well, it is also opposite transiting Saturn. You know, like a full moon!!! and of course Uranus is still close by . . .

Folks, hear me out ’cause I found something that just made my day. Earlier I said that Sen. Kennedy’s north node was at 27+ Pisces (and Obama’s Pallas at 25+ Pisces; part of their yod configuration) and today I was curious as to when Uranus would reach that point. Well!
Uranus reaches that point around March 25, 2010. But! On the Ides of March (15th) there is a New Moon at 25 degrees of Pisces and 10 min (shrieking in background) which is conjunct Obama’s Uranus at 25 Pisces and 16 minutes . .gasp.
But there’s more. That New Moon is not only conjunct Uranus but also Mercury! gasp. This only days after Mars goes direct at 0 Leo. Hmmmm. . . .how long has he been in Leo you might ask (I would!) Well, he’s been there almost 8 friggin’ months. No way you say. But yes, he’s been there since October 16th this year, just a month and a half from now folks! Just over a month after when congress gets back to work. (nowi’mabeliever)
Do you realize that during that 7 months and about 3 weeks Mars is in Leo he will be crossing over the president’s Mercury, Sun, Uranus, and North Node at least once? You say you want him to get fired up over healthcare reform? Do you realize that all the baby boomers have Pluto in Leo? Do you think THEY might get fired up?
Well, maybe you don’t see the connection between the Senator’s death and the passage of a healthcare bill 8 or 9 months later, but just to give more power to a point in the heavens, Jupiter will reach that 27+ Pisces degree in May ’10, shortly after Mercury goes direct in Taurus, and then when Jupiter DOES reach that degree, Mercury will be conjunct the Senators nadir at 6+ Taurus. And it will be the end of the matter.

i haven’t had much time for the comments section on PW for a while, but i must say your opening and closing quotes really resonated with me, having just come from a dance camp where i enjoyed a lot of freestyle-contact partner dancing… that sense that it’s that still point of contact between the two partners where the dance becomes more than one or the other, neither pushing nor pulling. lovely.

What a lovely treat to read your words today. I’m especially moved by those about the galactic center and how it gives us all something in common.
You might remember in remarks made to Eric’s article “Leo New Moon: The Gold Standard”, I speculated on the possibility of Pres. Obama fulfilling his yod configuration with a “knock-em-dead speech” that would move the populace to support a true health care (insurance) reform.
The irony of Teddy Kennedy’s passing at such an urgent time, in the world and especially in this country, has provided the inspiration for such a speech.
In his eulogy to Sen. Kennedy, Pres. Obama has spoken so movingly about the man and his life’s purpose, to provide healthcare to all citizens in our country. Perhaps this is the turning point in the minds and hearts of us all. . .what we have in common.
The sheer irony of the astrology for Sen. Kennedy and Pres. Obama is that this past new Moon at 27+ Leo has created a yod in Kennedy’s chart too, and activated the one in the presidents chart.
Sen. Kennedy’s Saturn is at 29+ Capricorn and Pres. Obama’s at 25+ Capricorn
Sen. Kennedy’s north node is at 27+ Pisces and Pres. Obama’s Pallas at 25+ Pisces.
As the new moon in Leo provides the focal point for a yod, it activates the President’s north node and Uranus and fulfills the function of its design; to provoke and express the energy provided by the sextile(s) (Saturn/NN for Kennedy & Saturn/Pallas for Obama)
The outcome of this historic and mythic-like struggle to bring equality to all, the gift of the Aquarian conjunction, now lies in the hearts of U.S. citizens, whose lives in turn lie in the hands of God. We shall see.
Len, you spoke of compassion then, tolerance and healing today. Let us remember Sen. Kennedy’s sacrifices and his own gifts of compassion, tolerance and healing given to so many. Let us hope that these feelings permeate our legislators and citizens and overcome the greed and selfishness and fear that has ruled for too long.

The axis IS something that needs to be reclaimed – hadn’t thought of it in the light you shined upon it – and now I realize I really must quit my day job. I’ve always been most at home with the galactic center shining the light of inspiration at the point in the day where it rises – and just now where the moon is conjunct.
