  1. I too read the quote the way you did, Carrie and Tracy. And therein my questioning of Commmon Intent – that is, to compare “illicit” sex (a one night stand) equally with common valuing of money aka a “loan”.

    And why is a one night stand illicit as suggested and why is it being compared to a “loan”?

    This, to me, is EXACTLY the model we need to get off of.

    As Eric points out, it’s not about simply the association of Sex and Money. It’s the form that association takes.

    Carrie, I agree too about considering “trust”. But what is it that Nov suggests we trust? Do we trust enough to have sex but is our money more important so therefore we trust less? Which I think is where he’s coming from and frankly it’s “creepy”. He’d give a girl sex but not his money – assuming that he wants it back (loan). Is he thinking he wants the sex back too? Did she “give”? Creepy. But in this context of this statement it gives us pause to consider. And this is PW intent. Good. This topic needs conversation.

    Tracy – with Mars in my 5th – and Venus in Aquarius (6th) I think I’ve got my basis covered on sex issues!! So funny. 🙂 (I see what you mean about re-covering sex as pleasure in the 5th)

    Oh – and Pity Poor Ophelia is not only sadly alone in my 8th house Pisces but she’s in one of those “locked cells” (haha) – I can’t remember what you call it – where the house is entirely encapsulated by the sign. And Part of Fortune in House 2 then is also a shut in.
    I find myself forever taken by subjects of sex and money; can’t imagine why.

    (But then, aren’t we all, one way or another?)

  2. Yes that was how I read it too, Carrie.

    Was interesting though when I started trying to think of all the possible reasons to lend someone $1000, or to refuse it; a person could possibly refuse for quite compassionate reasons, or agree for quite sinister ones.

    Also interesting that in strictly traditional astrology, sex is only in the 5th house of pleasure and children, never 8th. Eighth house sex is a later idea, presumably related to the discovery of Pluto and its association with the 8th sign Scorpio. I don’t know – just wondering why the older attitude seems on the surface healthier.

  3. Wow. And see, I read this quote totally differently. It says to me that if you would not trust someone with $1000 why would you trust them with your deepest, most intimate self (the intimate sexual connection and vulnerable orgasm moment)?

    Having sex means (to some degree for women at least) trusting that the partner (if male) will not harm you. Males are typically bigger and stronger and getting naked and into that kind of intimacy with one you don’t know well can be dangerous. The AIDS issue and (again for women) pregancy or (for men) accusations of rape, or
    (for women) actual rape are also about trust. Sex is more than just bumping uglies; it is a level of intimacy that can cause people to believe they are deeply in love when in reality they are not. It can cause a lot of emotional issues for some people so for some, it makes sense to do it with people you trust your body, feelings and psyche with.

    Many times, as I had one night stands, I thought for brief moments of the danger I was placing myself in. The movie Mr. Goodbar comes to mind where a woman gets murdered by a one night stand lover who has anger issues about women. I also often had tender feelings afterward that I didn’t know what to do with.

    So this quote doesn’t necesarily have to be about sex for money or money and sex. It might be about trust.

  4. Just about everyone associates sex and money – that’s why prostitution is illegal; so we have someone to point at and say “they do it.” I was thinking more of the intent of the guy’s statement and the role that money plays in his life. Hence the spiritual piece.

    I agree that it’s long overdue that we deconstruct the 8th house of “death, dowry and the substance of the bride.” The first step might be taking sex outside an 8th house context, of possession and control. That would be compersion.

    In these 8th house contexts it is not just money that is exchanged; it’s the presumption that people can be traded as property. In modern marital contexts and often other relational contexts this goes both ways.

    Compersion is about letting go of this whole possession/control drams.

    Funny, when I was a kid I was camping in the SW USA desert – I uncovered a baby white scorpion under my mat one morning (apparently they’re the most dangerous?) Didn’t phase either of us one bit. Not that I’d go looking for trouble with a Scorpion OR a Scorpio (that’s my son….all major planets in Scorpio except Moon in Pisces. Guess in runs in the family.)

  7. I’m fascinated that we are taking Rapper Nov at face value ( and I for one, did not look up the context of the quote, so there we have it).

    I mean, is his intent to compare irresponsible sex with irresponsible handling of money? And is this a valid question – or simply a Common Question? That is; a Common Way to Compare sex and money when in fact this is an opportunity to look at Sex and Money differently rather than just tit-for-tat. (Couldn’t help using the “tit” thing there.) Seems to me that this post suggests more/different/deeper conversation than the usual superficial sex’n’money in the 8th thing.

    I didn’t actually mean ‘Scorpios’ when I wrote scorpions. I suppose in this forum, one will transmute to the other. I love Scorpios. Well, I’m learning to love ’em.

    As for the ‘bell,’ don’t I know it… I am going to *be* one the next time I take birth, so am snuggled up to my Scorp friends, watching them closely.

    I have so much energy piled up in my 8th house that the money/sex thing has always been a carefully-treaded minefield. I decided to throw in ‘death’ when I was in my 30s and it worked well for me.

    Amanda, yes I meant the second, but seriously, anything that *makes* human beings as one of its side effects is bigger than a mushroom cloud in some dimensions. It pays to approach with either a) suicidal abandon or b) major respect.

    Of course, what I’d really like is *both*.

  11. Sex and Money. The two lovers. I have yet to meet a Scorpio that does not put the two in the same basket. They both come from the one source the original monad.

  12. Sex does not have to be “paid back”. A “loan” does.

    therefore rapper Nov speaks of apples and oak trees – two different things.

    If the sex is paid for, then it compares to a loan.

    If the money if a gift, then it compares to unpaid sex.

    This comparison being rapper Nov’s intent then the answer is: “‘easy’ assuming they want the sex and don’t need the loan”.

    my initial response was closer to eric’s — that the rapper is calling out those who detach from sex to the point of fucking people they do not respect, trust or care for in any spirit of generosity whatsoever.

    but yes, mystes, i think i understand the validity of your point. though sex and money seem so historically intertwined, i wonder if it isn’t worth calling to light the less-acknowledged places where they intersect?

    and are you saying you no longer let people choose if they will let you take them “There” or that you no longer let them choose to be unconscious about it? i’m guessing the latter….
