Ian’s Pizzeria on State Street in Madison, Wisconsin has not suffered from the protests that have brought close to 60,000 to the state capitol building, just a few blocks away. On the contrary, unlike most businesses whose day-to-day operations are disrupted by large-scale demonstrations of public unrest, Ian’s Pizzeria is thriving.
Closed for regular business, all of Ian’s calls are coming in from across the country and the globe for pizza orders exclusively to feed protesters demonstrating against Wisconsin Governor Walker’s budget proposal that would strip collective bargaining from public service employee union contracts — effectively crippling the state workers union. The demonstrations, which began February 15, are now in their seventh day.
Money for pizza has been coming in from as far away as Egypt, New Zealand, the UK, Korea, Finland, China, Australia, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy, as well as from across the 50 states.
If you are interested in ordering pizza slices for the movement in Madison, here is the link to Ian’s Pizzeria Facebook page where you can donate to the Wisconsin capitol protest pizza fund.

That’s really not a bad idea.
I also believe there are food vendors and restaurants around the vicinity of Tahrir Square where most of the events took place. In fact coincidentally one of them was featured in a recent article in Saveur.
As for pizza for the Capitol, Ian’s has salad and was very public in their sentiments about supporting the movement. For that, they should be commended, as should any business that stays open to feed the public in that situation. Anywhere. The worldwide attention was for heart. And no self-respecting student would deny themselves pizza.
yea cool, but we’re like the last people in the world that need more pizza – and before anyone freaks on me, i’m just sayin’ from a nutritional perspective and such …
i wonder if the people who are experiencing (r)Evolution on a much different level know how much WE(sterners) support them as well? how can we share the health like Ian’s is doing at a grassroots level, with tunisia, egypt, bahrain, libya, yemen, china … anyone know any glocal vendors? full circle anyone?

Bless your heart.
Thanks for posting this, Fe. I don’t usually react so quickly to potential donation opportunities, but I just ordered up a Florentine pizza, large veggie salad, and a few drinks. And a decent tip for the delivery person.
I only wish I could send some food to those Democratic legislators who are out of the state right now.

I remember watching the Democratic convention of 1968 and singing to that song by CSNY when I reached adolescence.
That song in particular still really brings it to me, as well as the memory of those riots at the DNC in Chicago.
When I read about the pizza last night on Daily Kos, a little well opened up inside my heart, and this time, its not just us, but the world is joining in—one slice at a time.

Really cool. Really really cool.
Thanks, Fe.
That is so cool. I saw a brief article that someone from Egypt bought a pizza for a protester in Wisconsin, glad to see the story is being shared……. Solidarity is alive and well…… there is a consciousness of a shared planet going on that is really wonderful to behold and partake of. We have had soooooo many messages of division, and lack of understanding across cultural borders, but this shows up the intelligence of humanity in knowing our condition and predicament is shared…. good stuff.
