Dear Friend and Reader
Today is the final day that the Sun is in Capricorn for this solar cycle. It will enter Aquarius tomorrow at 5:40 pm EST. When the Sun has finished making aspects in one sign and is heading for another, this is sometimes called void of course. We hear this term applied to the Moon, but the old textbooks (i.e., back to the 17th century) refer to the Sun in this condition as well. It’s a day to pay a little extra attention; a day when unlikely things are possible. The Sun’s aspects to your own natal chart may offer a little extra insight what to look for.
Early this morning (or late last night for you west-coasters), the Moon left beauty and balance-loving Libra for Scorpio, a sign known for its intensity and inner focus. When the Moon is in Scorpio, expect to feel passionate about everything from a lover’s opinions to the best way to peel an egg. Be aware of these feelings today and tomorrow: including the Moon being in the last degree of Scorpio, conjunct centaur planet Amycus, as Barack Obama is inaugurated. Then we’ll watch the inaugural balls with the Moon in optimistic, philosophical Sagittarius.
Today retrograde Mercury is conjoined with Jupiter in Aquarius today. This is the second of three Mercury-Jupiter conjunctions associated with this retrograde phase. It is the image of joining of opposites together: an idea with potential; the mind with a knowledge base; something small with something large; but the conjunction reminds us how, in an odd way, both are equal.
Yesterday as Mercury trined Pallas Athene, fairness and equality were discussion points. There was an interesting political image in the news, as Obama took his historic, retro train ride to DC for the inauguration.
Today with Mercury conjoined with Jupiter the exuberant, excitement and chance encounters may occur. The combination of Mercury, Jupiter and Aquarius (with the Sun heading for Aquarius) puts the emphasis on groups, shared ideas and shared cultural resources.
There is big activity going on in that part of the zodiac right now: Neptune and Chiron, Nessus and the North Node currently reside there. This spells out a time when the well-being of everyone everywhere is hovering in all that we do and discuss.
Many of us are coming to realize that our actions and activities have effects we never recognized before, particularly when amplified by a group experience. Jupiter in Aquarius expands the reach of our desires, while Neptune, not yet being aspectd by Jupiter, adds a bit of blurriness to the boundaries we are accustomed to living with. It is no longer becoming a question of what is mine and what is yours, but rather this aspect can enable us to explore the wealth of naming things “ours.” As Eros has entered Capricorn and is about to make a conjunction to Pluto, the condensing nature of this cardinal sign becomes the natural humility of the Earth’s simple pleasures. They are, after all, not mine or yours, but truly ours
Til next time,
Genevieve Salerno
