  1. I love this photo, too. I am kinda standing in for Dani as photo boy; she is en route to Buenos Aires, so we will have lots of South American photos soon enough (she is bringing her camera, I hear). So I had to pick something fast today and this was my favorite, recently. The owner of Taco Juan is actually named Bob; Juan is his old business partner. Bob is cranky and doesn’t take any shit from his customers. For example the ice cream freezer’s glass case is blocked out with orange so you can’t see the flavors (it takes too long, and he says that everyone knows what ice cream looks like.) There is a sign that says NO COMPUTERS but I get an exception, because I’m writing Planet Waves. Well, he’s cranky to everyone but me.

He’s a really good portrait photographer, though no longer active – the wall to the left in this photo is covered with people you would see on the street in Woodstock in the 80s and 90s. The place has this really unusual photographic quality – the lighting is ordinary, or so it seems, but it’s like a photographic vortex. Pictures there all have a certain depth to them, but yes, this one – I have no words and none are necessary.

    Laughing,
