  1. thank you, truly — i really appreciate the feedback and am incredibly grateful to have a forum to share in.

gwind — yes, the term is indeed “friggin cold.” 😉 i have not been in yet; we haven’t really had enough heat to call for swimming. i’ve found the key is beaches with a gradual shore and/or sandbar. it can actually be tolerable for more than 20 seconds before brain freeze kicks in. but i prefer lakes for true swimming — then i can stay in for an hour.

mystes — so sorry to hear your crab shot got lost! he sounds like a beauty; how fun he kept crawling to you. lions next month? well, if you know anyone who can spring for airfare to africa, i’m game. otherwise i might have to stick with the “dandi” variety. but that actually sounds like a potentially fun monthly photo project! hmmm…. i wonder where i can find me a centaur come december?

  2. I second all the appreciation for your photography, kiddo — a real treat. And I have serious camera envy, as well. Thanks for sharing with us.

  3. Thanks, Amanda. Your photography just blows me away.

After I saw this last night, I went searching for the ‘golden cwabby’ shot I took on the beach near Narbonne. A beautiful, gold-colored callinectes (I had *never* seen that color before) kept coming *to* Quentin and me, as if we were carrying crab-treats.

The photo was in the system that blew up in Sept 08 (while backing up, so it took both harddrives), alas. So I will console myself on this and the other gorgeous pics from your camera.

    Next month, Lions?

    Love and thanks,

    M

  4. Amanda, Born in Maine, I have memories of bravely jumping into the ocean at my parent’s friend’s house on the rocky coast downeast somewhere. Cold! oh my, even for us kids. but we had to do it. I jumped in, grabbed onto the rope ladder and scrambled out of the freezing abyss-lips blue. [friggin cold- I believe is the term] Seeing these little barnacle looking critters brings back memories of starfish, lobster pots, pink granite, visiting Acadia, and hearing Thunder Hole. Thanks for the glimpse! A-yuh.
