Barack says hello

Barack Obama on April 1, 2010 in his presidential limo, complete with the presidential seal (not shown), in the presidential motorcade, Portland, Maine. Photo by Amanda Painter.

This actually happened. I’m in Portland, Maine these days, and today Barack Obama came to town. Nobody can figure out why he came here, in particular, to stump for health insurance reform. I took my friend Amanda on our first journalism date — photographing the illustrious scene outside the Expo Center. We probably could have got tickets but didn’t have the energy to get up that early and wait on line; anyway outside is fine with me, it’s more interesting. After about five minutes, I lent Amanda one of my digital cameras because her film camera didn’t have a wide enough lens to get the shots she wanted. While I was busy interviewing members of the Teabagger movement about their opinion on car insurance, she wandered off for an hour and came back with a photo of Obama.

  1. Amanda, the asteroid Photographica, is splitting the difference between Mercury and Venus today, essentially conjunct to both. What Fe said, also.

  2. thanks fe!

i couldn’t quite believe it was happening as it happened — just sort of accidentally ended up in the right place at the right time, which was away from the main action of the crowd.
