A true Space Oddity

On Sunday, the world got a chance to hear a cover of David Bowie’s hit “Space Oddity” unlike any other. Commander Chris Hadfield recorded it aboard the International Space Station, while serving as the first Canadian in charge of a spacecraft. He relinquished command of the space station on Sunday, leaving a three-man U.S.-Russian crew on board to welcome the next trio of astronauts. Hadfield, American Thomas Marshburn and Russian Roman Romanenko landed in their space capsule south-east of the town of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan at 8:31 am local time on Tuesday.

It is believed to be the first music video ever created in space, and it’s a beauty.

  1. A hu-man who has come closer to what is out there -and what is in there- than we can (mostly) imagine. Thx for the share, Amanda.

  2. His Twitter feed and the other pictures and videos he posted are all awesome too. I love how he captured the imaginations and (re-)sparked a love of Science in so many people, young and old! Thanks for sharing the song!

  3. Thank you for posting this, Amanda. Humanity prevails over even the most sophisticated machinery.

  4. How courageous and beautiful. Bringing whistling through the graveyard to the level of art.

  5. Beautiful recording in it’s perfect alignment and element…It has never sounded better than from out there. I want to go…
