Cracking: FDA spied on scientists concerned about radiation

Yesterday we noted the breaking news about the FDA spying on its own scientists, which hit the New York Times just as Mercury was stationing retrograde this weekend. Mercury stations — whether retrograde or direct — often come with a sense of ‘the truth comes out’. True to form, this current station and ‘storm’ phase is bringing a number of intriguing tidbits to light.

The Food and Drug Administration has been found to have launched a massive surveillance campaign targeting its own scientists for writing letters to journalists, members of Congress and President Obama. The scientists were concerned over the FDA’s approval of medical imaging devices for colonoscopies and mammograms that could endanger patients with high levels of radiation.

Eric noted yesterday that the FDA is apparently protecting the ‘trade secrets’ of GE Healthcare — rather than the health of patients. I have a feeling GE or the FDA is trying to get the pulse of public opinion on this story in order to do some quick damage control.
