The Tune Turns – Mercury, Moon and Neptune

By Len Wallick

…the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

-Mark Twain

Two planets and the Moon are about to begin a performance long anticipated. It’s time to find your seat. The lights go up shortly after 4:00 pm EDT today when Mercury leaves Taurus behind and takes the stage in Gemini. It won’t take long for the audience to realize that this is where the fleet one belongs. As if finally given a chance to improvise, the trickster will be hot from the first note. Don’t be surprised if your sinuses suddenly clear.

Resplendent in the Sun’s illuminating chords, Mercury will open with a solo, making it look easy. The effortless riffs are enough so that many will not notice the trickster is sharing the Gemini platform. The Moon actually started the concert. It began playing while the lights were down, casting a shadow and setting a mood. That seems like yesterday.

Now Luna will gracefully yield and play from the wings unseen but deeply felt. In aspect to a score of minor planets and major points, it will lay down a bass line that builds and releases tension over and over. Soaring upon those rapid lunar rhythms, the trickster will have our fully conscious attention.

The Moon will not be the only source of tension. When the stars come out, a guest performer will join the Gemini power trio of Mercury, Luna and Sol. Out on a runway, sheathed in its trademark fog, Neptune has been waiting for its cue.

As far as your ephemeris can tell, Neptune appears to be standing still right now in the first degree of Pisces. As with so many other objects that have changed signs for the past two months, the first aspect Mercury makes after entering Gemini is to Neptune. With both the fishes and the twins signifying the same tonal (mutable) quality, that angular relationship will be a square. The suspense you feel will not last long before a resolving turnaround changes everything.

The square from Mercury will be the last aspect to Neptune while it is in direct motion this year. Twenty minutes later, Neptune stations retrograde on its way back to take care of unfinished business in Aquarius. It will be as if the foggy one suddenly started playing eloquently backwards. It promises to be a trans formative experience. In all the excitement of the moment, the ramifications for your awareness will not be immediately apparent.

By the time you arrive home, the Moon will have done the same, entering its Cancer domicile. That will be when it starts to sink in. Your familiar surroundings will appear to have altered in your absence. What you took for granted will seem new. Even your favorite pencil will feel different in your hands. It may feel like a chance to create with it as you never have before.

This is not madness. It is inspiration. A good artist can get your attention. A great artist will enter your mind and deconstruct it. It feels uncomfortable and leaves you with some work to do. If you can manage not to deny the discomfort or avoid the labor, you will have evolved. Somewhere in your neural pathways and even, perhaps, your DNA, the experience will have left its mark.

As it is with a work of art, so it is with the astrology today and tomorrow. The moments of inspiration will pass quickly, perhaps even while you sleep. The feeling of being altered will last a while longer. It is for you to see in those hours the opportunity to create your very own self. Give yourself the same chance that the creative planets are giving you. The first patterns of this new eclipse cycle are setting in. They are a matter of choice. Will you expand your reach or will you settle for what you can merely grasp? You will probably not have to decide right away, but the question will present itself very soon.

  1. Patty! Hooraay!!!! Be, thank you for your extra (special!) additions to what’s happening and what’s to come 🙂 Carrie, hugs back at cha! {{{thanks}}}

  2. Dearest shebear. I have not written the screenplay I have in mind, Haven’t even started. The first act I was referring to was following Len’s metaphor of Mercury, the Moon and the Sun walking on stage, with Neptune in the wings. On the day of the eclipse and on to the Neptune retrograde. Thursday of this week culminated in me finishing rolling out a re-invention of myself and small business that I started in 2001. That was taking all my energy as I have hanging in the wings a major 43 year long situation which I hope to the Highest will be resolved and changed to the max and that which was not working (90-95% of it) will be totally left, sent to wherever that energy and debris can be made useful, for it no longer serves my life. The next two eclipses will be assisting me with their energy in this clean up and move ahead process. The PW astrologers have sharpened my awareness of the reality that this is really happening to me, and that I just need to throw my shoulder into the already moving energy that is lifting the fog and exposing real creativity and inspiration. This month has been a long time coming and I have a sh***load of paperwork and legalities to tie it all together and give it as a gift to myself. Also, this solar eclipse was sitting at 23 Gemini right between my natal Mercury and Uranus. and this SN is transiting my natal NN. Amazing energy I am dealing with. Thank you for hearing and caring, shebear. Julian of Norwich and Mary Oliver have been my literary companions though this as well as some healing strengthening uplifting loving Native American melodies ands harmonies.

  3. Bk, yes i have a feeling. I read that once, healing is a feeling.

I had tests in 2007 at my last hip replacement and my lung was clear. this week there was a healed scar showing up on the CT scan, yet i have had no cough nor illness during the last 4 years. Did a healing occur? Yes. It must have, for the scar is there as proof of an injury. Guess it isn’t my time to go.

  4. Looks like I got my 2’s backwards . . . can I blame Neptune playing backward for that? Nah, didn’t think so.

  5. Patty,

What good news, and whata relief! Are you feeling better dearheart?

Thanks Huffy (I thought it interesting too!), and thanks to all here who leave comments too. Reading what goes on in your lives and what you enjoy is a way of sharing . . . and I don’t even have to get out of my pj’s to do it!

A big thanks too to Len for bringing everyone together; enjoy your weekend all.

  6. shebear, Thanks! And to everyone here at PW, thanks for being here and for making me feel like I have a “family” who is right there with me.

{{{Aword}}} and {{{Burning}}} <—-cyber hugs to both of you. Hugs to everyone!

Yes, we ARE really in this together. Thanks Eric, Len, Amanda, Anatoly, Fe, Jude, and everyone else I may have forgotten for making PW the safe haven for all of us.

  7. Oh Len, this is beautiful! As a capstone to the “performance” I am posting my daughters’ high school grad pictures here. The ceremony was yesterday…a perfect way to end a stressful day in which my father fell (again) for the fifth time this week and had a bad cut on his forehead. He is in the hospital now to stabilize the meds that are causing his falls. Moving him closer to me has meant that I am divided between him and my kids but it also means he is getting better care and that is what I want.

My daughters’ grad pictures are here:

Sorry to brag but they worked so hard and the youngest one is only 16.

  8. a big hey and hug to the master of ceremonies (len) and this most hugable community … happy friday and bless ya’ll … thank you for calling out to me, my inner poet is stirred to engage this new day.

  9. Ah well done Burning, on completing that first act. Savour the relief and the accomplishment. Speaking of writing, I discovered that my favourite Irish poet, W B Yeats, had the same placement of the lunar nodes as I do. NN in Libra and SN in Aries. It’s a challenging placement to. say. the. least; a placement which no doubt fueled much of his writing. ( I looked back at something you wrote earlier this week and see your placement is NN Gemini and SN Sadge…….and that your sun is 8 Gemini, so……belated happy birthday to you m’dear! I hope it was a memorable one – xox)

I think I’ll join both you and Mr. Yeats and put pen to the paper more often, and try and make sense of it all! I continue to send encouraging vibes your way to help you through the rest of the process — of writing *and* of living and thanks for mirroring it back so beautifully as you do! Make room in that tree house with SiS why doncha, ‘cos I coming the ladder to join youse (employ a northern irish — norn iron to some — accent for that last word).
    Heh!

  10. am I awake! ha! up since 5:00am…….
yah. off to bed. hopefully creative dreaming, that’s what I’m going for.

early to bed, early to rise….got stars to talk to tomorrow at 5am!
    bizzy day.

    sweet dreams all!

  11. Dear Patty. I join shebear in the toast to your health! Yea!

Thanks for your holding of me in your goodness she–I finished the first act of my three act play this month. Glad its behind me, Neptune is now going back for me to finish up what was begun so long ago for us. I am going to get some sleep before the next curtain call. Sadge, are you awake yet? you night owl? Hope Neptunian inspiration and creativity fuel your work tonight. (((xoxo))) to all.

  12. Thrilling news Patty! Veeeery happy for you. Slainte! (gaelic for health) as I toast you with my bottle of ale!

    Len, this post is *gorgeous*.
“This is not madness. It *is* inspiration.”

    — and such thoughtful inspiration at that.

In addition: Special hugs to A word and Burning River. I’ve had you both close in my thoughts for a while sending warm comfort and faith for those “tough cocoons” you both mentioned some days back. (and Carrie, you were included there too, on your w/e family road trip, which you seemed to have graduated with flying colours!)

None of us are going this alone, right?………and tonight we can take a moment to celebrate and reflect with Patty and her gang, relishing her great news!
    Yee-ha
    😉

  13. and I don’t have cancer…thank you dear lovelies. I wish you abundance in love and wealth so you can keep on giving!

  14. Good for you aword, that something excites you even as Saturn keeps your nose to the grindstone. You know, this month Mercury will both trine and square Saturn, I guess to make up for his not retrograding quite all the way back to a perfect opposition to Saturn in April.

It will be from the square that Mercury in Cancer will sound a discordant chord for freedom from the Saturnian grindstone, for all souls need a break to express these creative Neptune energies. Len says “a great artist will enter your mind and deconstruct it”. In the interpretation of Mercury’s degree symbol where he will square Saturn, “A Clown Caricaturing Well-known Personalities”, Dane Rudhyer says “Laughter deconditions. . ” and is a “cathartic” first step in developing true individuality. Maybe, in a way, we all could use some deconstruction and deconditioning, so let the music play and return us to the creative ideas we have put on hold.

Mercury arrives in Cancer and trines Neptune only hours later, followed by a sextile to Jupiter, a square to Uranus and an opposition to Pluto before he gets to that square with Saturn on the day of the summer solstice. It concludes the influence of the dragonfly-winged spring equinox of change and now our individuality (and self-confidence) will get some well-deserved nurturing, and probably a good laugh at ourselves with the Sun’s entry into Cancer.

  15. yes Be! – I’m “excited” in some nose-to-the grindstone Saturnian way myself. I fer sure have Neptunian unfinished business in AQ…..and am suddenly inspired to re-consider plans I left idle for want of more self-confidence. It would seem perhaps these few moments of Neptune in my fishy sign gave the confidence; now for the re-working of opportunity.

PS: The Venus glyph in the bi-canvas natal-chart painting I’m working on has turned out to look much like a dragonfly………

  16. I’m excited already Len and the show hasn’t even begun. I wonder if Mercury will do his famous tap-dance as Neptune turns retro. So glad though for the different perspective of the same note, er, uh degree Neptune is in. A total of four months of the same ole, same ole would be rough on my physical systems; a bit jarring you know? Even though it may be subtle, not like a jack-hammer of course, the nuance of the backward note is probably telling us it is time to say goodbye for a while as he (we?) needs to wrap up something in Aquarius.

One astrologer says that Neptune (as well as Saturn and Venus) leaving a sign represents an ending. Well, maybe not this sign of Pisces, but the ending of something Aquarian. With Neptune I suppose that would be a note of melancholy, which would further explain the discomfort you speak of. Very well, then, let it begin. Creativity must be free in order to inspire, and the show MUST go on!

  17. Dear Len, this sure is beautiful. Your description of the cosmic artists today makes their grand movements and subtle nuances, and everything in-between, even more intimately understandable and affecting than usual.

“This is not madness. It is inspiration. A good artist can get your attention. A great artist will enter your mind and deconstruct it. It feels uncomfortable and leaves you with some work to do.” – I feel you doing that.

Love and thanks from under an overcast seattle sky, a little brightness flooding through the folds.

  18. Brilliant visuals, Len. After carrying myself through yesterday without missing a beat (thank you Eric and PW for the nourishment and encouragement), I appreciate the heads-up. Now it’s Show Time.

  19. This is one tough cocoon I am working my way out of…….your words, Len make the effort feel more like a graceful dance.
Upon this new day, once again I am grateful for your wisdom and poetry.

    xo
