The Other Side – Venus enters Libra

By Len Wallick

Venus enters Libra overnight Wednesday, about 11:40 pm EDT. The ingress takes place two weeks before the brightest planet returns to visibility and marks two months since it disappeared behind the solar glare. The number two is resonant with both Libra and Venus. That is true of our lives as well. Whether duality and polarity are intrinsic to earthly existence or just a framework we make and believe in, the archetype of Venus in the costume of Libra will literally and figuratively illuminate the other side of our recent experience by corresponding the second week of July to the last two weeks of September.

Libra is symbolized by a set of balance-beam scales. In antiquity, the scales were an everyday tool used to measure two equal portions of mass. Symbolically, the common tool has long represented the uncommon ideals of equal justice. When the Sun enters Libra later this month, day and night will be of equal length at the equinox, a change of season. The place and time of that change is what defines Libra as a cardinal sign. It is also one of two signs (along with Taurus) ruled by Venus.

In the words of Robert Hand, “Venus is a Yin planet.” As such it represents the receptive side of a polarity, attracting the other, active side known as Yang. If there is a continuous and equal exchange between the Yin and Yang there will be balance. A place of balance between active and receptive polarities initiates a new cycle of its own. Libra is just such a place.

The archetype of Venus changing into the raiment of Libra is the epitome of a new cycle that will complement one just ending. Most obviously, there will be a reciprocal period of visibility in the western sky. Being able to see the brightest planet after sunset will balance the eight months or so when it was visible before dawn. This will initiate a new period of equal opportunity for those who do not get up before sunrise but are awake after sunset. In addition to illuminating the other side of the sky, Venus is about to show us another side of some recent, auspicious aspects.

July saw the Yin planet in the cardinal sign Cancer. During that period Venus swept through a rapid sequence of aspects with three slower moving planets, also in cardinal signs. Once in Libra, Venus will repeat a relationship with all three of those objects but from another angle. What was a square to Uranus will be revisited as an opposition. The subsequent opposition to Pluto will now be experienced as a square. Finally Venus will close its previous separation from Saturn and form a conjunction. Each of those reciprocal aspects will provide an opportunity to see corresponding events from the other side. That is a unique chance for you to do some practical astrology.

The recently transitioned Robert Blaschke distilled the practice of astrology down to two activities, observation and correlation. What we observe, however, is useful only if we can recall an event when there is a corresponding incident to compare it with. That will be the opportunity Venus will afford us during its time in Libra. If you can remember or somehow recover your own experience during the second week of July, the last two weeks of September will show you the other side of it. There are only two things you have to do.

In order to give yourself the gift of perspective that astrology affords, you must first observe consciously. As this week draws to a close, practice awareness. Put some extra attention into observing relationships and exchanges especially. Then, as the month draws to a close, start corresponding those observations to what came together for you in the middle of July. If there is anything to astrology, that simple practice will result in a more balanced perspective on life for you. You will see the other side of something. Try it and see.

  1. What Fe said, what Rob said.

Transitions have become commonplace; the norm. This just past weekend more pronounced than many, but no more or less profound.

Thank you Len. Observation and Correlation. I have observed your mention and will correlate as appropriate. Anticipate learning from such for smooth/er transitioning.

    Venus ahoy, then.
    xo

  2. This weekend felt a lot like a conclusion to me too. Can’t say I feel much of the new coming in though…sometimes it all seems like a marathon of transition.

  3. This weekend felt alot like a close, a conclusion.

Len your writing on the subject at hand gives me the feeling that Venus’ re-emergence is that of a new beginning.

Everything we’ve coped with, emergencies handled, heartbreaks experienced as well as the growth from everything that has happened while Venus went dark is coming to light. Venus is arriving as a lantern into a new room.
