Making An Impression — Venus Ingress Leo

Venus entered Leo today just before 3:24 am EDT (7:24 UT) as if to open an inquiry into what making an impression amounts to. Initial perceptions may amount to reality at first. Ultimately, however, (and as this Venusian tenure of Leo may well show) the real thing prevails over bling.

There are as many ways of making an impression as there are other beings to impress. Regardless, it helps to be both conscious and thoughtful.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the most impressive object in our sky. For astrologers, the Sun correlates with consciousness as much or more than anything else.

The solar corollary to consciousness implies more than just being awake. Self-awareness is implied, as is self-expression. Hence, nearly any planet expressing itself through Leo will often manifest through your own expression (and/or that of others) to be as evident as an object illuminated by daylight.

While no match for the Sun or Moon, Venus is the brightest planet — impressive in its own right. Expressed through Leo, the intrinsic brilliance of Venus (combined with its correspondence to beauty and love) can imply self-impression, and showing off is more likely than not.

You could go so far as to say Venus in Leo indicates more show than substance. Yet, this year it’s not so simple. Venus has a lot of company in Leo — at least for the time being. With the company comes a complex dynamic.

The Sun is in Leo, illuminating how important it is for you to be conscious of how you are perceived. Mercury has several more days to express itself through Leo as well, enough time to set a tone emphasizing the need to think before you express yourself.

Finally, expansive Jupiter’s ingress to Leo nearly four weeks ago introduced the potential for either excess or excellence in expression, largely depending on whether you choose to promise or expect realistically. Into that potent Leo mix Venus stepped this morning.

In less than a week (on the morning of Monday Aug. 18), Venus will conjoin with Jupiter to make an impressive show you will be able to see with your own eyes, weather permitting.

Tellingly, for the impression to be realized (made real), you will need to awaken and be conscious before the crack of dawn. You will also need to think of a place that has an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon. Only then will what is being called “the closest conjunction of two planets in 2014” unfold before you.

Just as the promise of Monday’s Venus-Jupiter conjunction will be realized only through conscious awareness and mindful effort, so it will be for any lasting impression you want to make during the 24 days or so Venus will traverse Leo until Sept. 5.

As important as first impressions undeniably are, showing off will not be enough this time around. Perceived reality will need to have some substance behind it for a sustainable impression.

You will have to be conscious of the need for substance to back up any perceptions you form. You will need to know the difference between bling and the real thing. Most of all you will have to be careful not to promise or expect too much. If you can do just those things starting today, you should be well on your way to making impressions that amount to something for you.

  1. yoniyoganidra: Thank you. Your impressions are deeply appreciated here, and your conscious individuation is an inspiring example.

Lnesoleil: Thank you for coming back! Thank you especially for reminding us about the “other side” of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction – the Mars-Saturn conjunction coming up later this month. We love how you keep us aware!

  2. Hello Len
Thanks for your reflection on Venus on Jupiter and Saturn Mars no, choose the best for having assets in hand
Me are back, I worked on the minimalist of the energy of Saturn on my March, it will get better next week
Good Weekend of 15 August to all 🙂

  3. Thanks Len, such wise words for life; not to promise or expect too much.

Aword: I like the idea of Venus not being “too far from the dance floor”. Thanks for that image. For me I have natal Sun and Venus both in the 7th house, which often feels like a contact improv jam.

Though my parents would have preferred me doing the Dosey-doe, tango was more my flavor; the music, the moves, the passion.

  4. be: Thank you for taking us wider and deeper by keeping us current with how the “Goddess agenda” is playing out in politics (both of which are very pertinent to Venus in Leo). Fear not, Venus does indeed have a special place in my heart. Special thanks for the heads up regarding the conjunction of transiting Jupiter to the Sibly lunar north node – what would we do without you?

aword: Thank you! Once again, your uniquely resonant nativity speaks volumes for all of us, providing an important parallax view. The added perspective is deeply appreciated.

  5. Thanks, Len. Each time Venus ingresses Leo, she opposes natal Venus (0 AQ) and squares natal stellium on my Scorpio IC (Jupiter/TN/Neptune). Seeing as how Neptune is her “higher octave” (thanks, Be) it’s rather a Venusian square dance all around. (esp with Nesta and Hera butted up to the MC to “round out” the squaring!)
Well, as always there’s a lot going on and Venus is never far from the dance floor.
Thanks for the update and perspective.

  6. The way I see it, Venus has been a team player while transiting through Gemini and Cancer, what with the goddesses Ceres and Vesta, along with Mars transiting through her sign of Libra. Now, in Leo, she will be the star while there and conjunct Jupiter, but the themes (issues) she supported then are the same themes (issues) she will now add a theatrical touch to.

For example, a few weeks ago I noted here at PW that while Ceres and Vesta were in Libra (Venus’ sign) the U.S. government (House of Representatives) authorized $41 million to test and prosecute backlogged rape kits, (the goddesses were conjunct Mars) which at that time the Senate had not yet acted on. Meanwhile each of the women (and men) those kits represent who claim they were raped had not yet – in some cases for years – seen charges brought against the perpetrators of the crimes against them.

But now! Now Mitch McConnell is here in Kentucky on his summer vacation, and in the news, touting a big push to attend to that backlog of untested rape kits, which apparently the Senate approved the financing for before their recess. Mitch is in a political contest for his Senate seat this October with a lady named Alison Grimes who is running ads about his neglect in addressing women’s issues. Today Venus is in Leo, stage front and center, and so is Mitch.

McConnell’s natal Pallas is at 2+ Aquarius, conjunct his Venus at 5+ Aquarius, opposite transiting Venus (and transiting Jupiter). His natal Pluto at 4+ Leo is where Venus will be this weekend. Alison Grimes’ natal Juno is at 6+ Aquarius however, and she won’t be sitting out this “show of concern” on McConnell’s part. In fact, when transiting Venus conjuncts transiting Jupiter at 7+ Leo, Alison’s natal Venus at 7+ Scorpio will likely be ready to dig deep into McConnell’s too little, too late concerns for women.

As for the sign Venus rules and influences, Libra still has the transiting north node (the path forward) as a guest, and as of tomorrow, it will be conjunct the U.S. Sibly Juno (20+ Libra) opposite the U.S. Sibly Chiron (20+ Aries) where the south node (the old ways that don’t work any more) will be. Also tomorrow, transiting Venus will sextile transiting Pallas (the planner) who will just be entering Venus’ sign Libra. The ladies of the Pantheon are not sitting by idly as the Silly Season begins.

I would expect too that Neptune’s (higher vibe of Venus) trine with Vesta on the 16th and his trine with Juno on the 20th will support the goddesses’ quest for fairness by dissolving barriers that have stood in their way. When Venus and Jupiter make their impressive show in the sky, no doubt it will also be pretty spectacular here on Earth too. Oh, and did I mention that Jupiter was conjunct the U.S. Sibly chart’s north node (path forward) today? Thanks for giving Venus some space in your column and your heart Len!

  7. Thank you, Holly. May this Venus return be your best thus far, and may the new college term get underway so as to combine erudition with joy as never before. Here’s to the prevail of spunk!

  8. I like Venus in Leo (I have this placement nataly). She has some spunk. This should help me with college starting on August 28th. This is perfect. By that time both the Sun and Mercury will be in my sign turf, Virgo. Oh, I can feel the energy already! Subtle bur growing. I like it! Bring it!
