Sun enters Aquarius shortly after 11 am EST this coming Friday. Where the actual Sun is present, there is light and day. The same truth applies symbolically. You can thus expect that the solar ingress to a new sign will coincide with events that bring new themes to light. In the case of Aquarius, those themes would entail how you think of yourself in relation to the rest of humanity, because Aquarius is where the individual contacts the collective. The process begins today, while Sun is still in Capricorn, with the remembrance of a special human being. The pattern will continue to develop through this week as your consciousness of crumbling cultural constructs eventually yields to your own sense of personal connection.
Today is a holiday in the United States, a day set aside in the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is now nearly 50 years since the Reverend Doctor King re-consecrated the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. with the greatest speech of the 20th Century. His oratory sought to inspire and persuade an entire nation to support a dream. His vision was to make “the riches of freedom and the security of justice” equally available to Americans of African descent. Half a century later we find ourselves in a situation where that dream is not only still withheld from ethnic minorities in America, but also denied to 99 percent of the people in the world. In the year just past, the 99 percent have become conscious of that shameful condition, placing us on the threshold an entirely new relationship between the individual and the collective.
These last days of Sun in Capricorn are illuminating an end to the old relationship between individual and collective. Through no choice of our own, more and more of us are denied entry to meaningful participation in the legal, political and economic systems of the world. Increasingly, the defining principle of human connectivity has become the degree to which nearly all of us are being exploited, mined, and extracted as a source of wealth for the very few. We now identify with each other less often through common allegiance and service to existing power structures. Instead, we more often find a mutual interest in a quest for alternatives. That connection has recently opened to a new level as the 99 percent have compensated for losing the means of production by utilizing enhanced means of communication. It is upon that subject this year’s solar ingress to Aquarius will shed its light.
When Neptune first entered Aquarius in 1998, the established order was already drawing profit and hegemony from the development, production and use of information technology. In the intervening years, the Internet turned into something indispensable and wireless connections became a necessity. While those developments were intended to exploit us, they also became the means to organize a liberation. The power structure itself grew dependent on its electronic creations and that dependency evolved into a weakness. The avarice that fueled the technological revolution failed to deny entry to the exchange of information in the same way we had been denied entry to the means of production and the halls of power. Hence, a cultural revolution became possible. Now, just as that potential has been realized, it will face transition to a new chapter.
The new chapter will open this Friday. The four-week solar tour of Aquarius will begin as it has for 14 consecutive years, with Neptune in the same sign. Halfway through that month-long tenure, Neptune will depart, and the archetypal light of our consciousness will reveal the absence of what has become a defining presence in the symbolic ground where each of us finds ourselves with the rest of us. That implies a new means of personal interface is at hand. Whether that new means will represent a setback or a boon to the aspirations that Martin Luther King gave voice to will depend on our priorities. If, like the established order that sustains itself at the expense and hardship of the 99 percent, our individual focus is on personal privilege, we will not be able to continue our nascent quest for redemption. On the other hand, if we can be guided by an awareness that the welfare of all of us is inextricably bound to the to the destiny of each of us, we cannot fail. Let the Sun shine in to the new collective; not an institution, not a structure, but simply people, people just like you.

Amanda: Precisely, and thank you for not only the pertinent “read” but also the heads-up to a very real threat to our freedom and the informative link. Mars in Virgo is strong with you, young Jedi.
be: Thank you for the beautifully worded addendum and the instructive perspective of “hard” aspects between outer planets. Your generous and eloquent teachings are deeply appreciated.
So glad you chose to write about MLK and Neptune and Aquarius today Len. We’ve had a lot of encouragment from the planets and nodes to look back at history this past week, and your offering today puts me to remembering the opposition between the old ruler and the new ruler of Aquarius during ’08, 09, and 2010. With so much going on then, it was hard (for me) to be able to sort out the influences of the squares and oppositions what with Jupiter and Pluto in the mix too. However, looking back I can see the titanic struggle between Saturn and Uranus for the control over individuals and groups, the old ways vs. the new ways.
Oppositions are a time to see how far we have come in a cycle and an opportunity to find ways to balance the two types of energy. This was a struggle almost to the death of the gods represented, father and son in mythology, father Uranus being castrated by son Saturn, showing the determination of Saturn to not yield what had already been created. There would seem to be no love lost between this father and son, and yet it did produce Venus, goddess of love.
Now we see Uranus again in another classic battle between the old and the new, this time in the form of Pluto in Capricorn. There will still be those individuals and groups that will cling to the Saturn forms, but Uranus will have his creative energies disciplined by a Pluto who will create new spaces in the old structures, channeling that cowboy energy where it is needed. This would be where the internet and Aquarius play their part. It is also time for the rising again of Venus.
Fifty years ago it was through Martin Luther King Jr., and this time the form has not become clear enough to name. History does repeat, but it doesn’t have to be at the same level as before. It can and will rise above the past, bringing individuals to a new level of consciousness, and mankind will evolve in the process. It has to.be.

new chapter, indeed: in the last year, ‘Net neutrality and related issues keep cropping up, and, i think, need to be a bigger concern for more people. between media mergers and proposed legislation, there are very real forces trying to undermine this newfound common power in the internet.
i have not had a chance ot research the group “demand progress,” but last week they sent me an email urging everyone to ask wikipedia to consider joining other sites in a voluntary “blackout” this week — in hope of jarring apathetic internet users, who take their easy information access for granted, into taking some action to speak out against “Internet Blacklist Bills (PIPA and SOPA).”
the link is below, for those curious:

has anyone else heard much about this proposed blackout, or done anything about it? wikipedia is clearly still working today…
