Today is Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. The Moon begins the day in Scorpio, ingressing Sagittarius at 10:45 am EDT. It stays in that fire sign most of the weekend and connects with the Galactic Core, which hangs out at 26 degrees Sagittarius, at 5:48 am EDT Sunday. Could we ask for two more fitting signs than Scorpio and Sagittarius for the Moon to be in this weekend? Scorpio brings the ‘dark and deep’ to get us in the mood for Halloween/Samhain (pronounced sah-wen); then the Moon conjunct the GC opens up the cosmic spiritual channel as the veil between worlds thins. The Moon then enters Capricorn Sunday Oct. 30, at 12:38 pm EDT.

There are still some tense aspects in the air. Mercury in Scorpio is about to make a square to Mars in Leo today, and that has been brewing all week. This is a caution against being angry at yourself, and in particular, about letting that anger get snagged on an emotional level.

Mercury square Mars also says: work out your mental blocks. Most people’s self-denial of the sex they want is a head-trip. It’s possible to get caught in maintaining the illusion of self-image, or some idea that prevents you from even expressing what you want. Sometimes there is an apparent conflict between two desires. Note the level on which this is all a mind game. Work it out; use analysis. Be honest with yourself first. Remember that ‘what people think’ usually verges on meaningless (or is a figment of your imagination), and what you think is the most meaningful thing to you.

Also today, Jupiter in Taurus trines Pluto in Capricorn. How often do we see a Pluto aspect and release a sigh of relief? Well, Isabel Hickey calls this one, “a wonderful blending of the extrovertedness and optimism of Jupiter with the caution and subtlety of Pluto.” It carries vitality, insight and perhaps a touch of the metaphysical – perfect for this time of year, when more people than usual get curious about the spirits of the dead and all things occult. Let yourself get enthusiastic, but keep your expectations realistic.

The emphasis on insight will help with both the Mercury-Mars square and the Scorpio Sun’s opposition to Jupiter tomorrow. Sun-Jupiter comes with a caution to beware of exaggeration this weekend. Keep your perspective and a sense of scale. This will be helpful while buying candy for anticipated trick-or-treaters. It’s perhaps even more important if you do happen to get angry with yourself or feel caught between conflicting desires and ideas about yourself. You can let Scorpio take you deep, just remember to step back and get a wider view once in a while.

Monday is Halloween, though most people who have to work the next day will likely do most of their costumed celebrating over the weekend. What’s notable is that while we’re all disguising ourselves and letting alter-egos and shadow selves out to play, Venus in Scorpio will be moving into a square with Neptune in Aquarius. The aspect is exact Monday just after 5:19 pm EDT. Despite whatever cosmetic alterations and masquerading we play with that day, Venus square Neptune is calling out for emotional honesty. The square says be honest with yourself. Mainly, don’t try to convince yourself of anything, especially that you’re a ‘bad’ or a ‘good’ person. Keep any of those ideas to your costume, not your core.

And should you happen to have fun playing in all the sexy Scorpio energy this weekend while exploring an alter-ego of yours – and there’s chemistry with the hot masked crusader at a party – keep things light and just real enough to stay hot without getting heavy. Venus square Neptune cautions against thinking you have to be ‘in love’ to have sex with someone — or that sharing sex means you’re in love. Kindness and consideration are enough. Don’t get hung up on wanting love; this aspect asks us to be Love instead. How’s that for a Halloween costume?

  1. Thanks Amanda, My little friend was quite willing too, but the funnest thing was kissing him under his monk’s hood costumed as he was in his robe. Everyone seemed to enjoy it but nobody saw it. What happens under the hood stays under the hood, you know…

  2. susyc — 🙂 steal away! i’d say i stole a little something tonight myself, but it was quite willingly, if a bit slyly, given.

yes, i’m thinking it’s a good thing santa isn’t in charge of this holiday, too.

  3. Scorpio’s got me feeling naughty and stealing kisses tonight from the thirty-something/forty something tonight at the Halloween bellydance party, such a fun poet and comedian. We do enjoy talking about his taste for plus size girls, including his lovely, and he has been teasing a few of my silly and particular fantasies out of me as we’ve been getting to know each other. And then I’m home again with my sixty nothing sweetiepie who has known of my predilection for kiss stealing for quite a while now and seems to be finding my gentle experimentations quite interesting and stimulating if you know what I mean. Gotta tell you kids, it only gets better the older we get and it will for you too, as long as you’re flexible, can switch steps as the dance music changes, and be able to make friends with your shadow sides.

  4. Tomorrow I move my dad into the new assisted living place that will give him more mental stimulation. I will also be telling him my terms for the continuation of our relationship. This will be like telling a toddler their boundaries. I am in charge of him and will not allow him to harm himself anymore.

At the same time, I have to finish writing yet another interminable term paper by Sunday night. I am a good term paper writer but I have been physically sick since last Saturday and brain-dead as a result but as a parent there is no respite from my responsibilities. Our whole household is now sick.

In this mess I will bake and decorate cupcakes for my husband’s students’ Halloween party. I will do that on Sunday. Monday brings not only the regular week’s work (homechooling my son and preparing for Halloween/Samhain) but two more classes jump on my roster for me to complete; this means four again and the two are accelerated making them more work compressed in shorter time. The next 7 weeks will be grueling work for me at a time when I most want to enjoy the holidays.

The astrology feels almost irrelevant in the face of all this. Deeper, inner work is often something I have to put aside for big chunks of time in order to just keep things running smoothly around here. I can hardly wait for my graduation in December. It cannot come soon enough.

  5. And thank you HS. You put it so beautifully – though I still have a lot of fear in the mix. Think I’m finally confronting my inner rabbit. (talking of which, better get back to work, having too much fun on PW..) xx

  6. I’m sure it’s been said already, but I really had a good image this morning of all these oppositions lately lined up one after the other since a couple of weeks ago. I felt like I was a kneading the dough of my psyche, pushing and pulling, spreading, reworking, layering, pulling and pushing. And that there was something really important coming out, something beautiful and healing. Each opposition was like a new layer and what is emerging is this Jupiter Pluto Chiron mixture in their current aspects, esp to me. Joy and abundance, evolving and transforming, healing and integration. Letting it all flow through me.
Thanks so much, and thank you Huffy, Michele, and KathyC.

I think Venus square Neptune has caught up with my lifelong mindset.
    YES !!!

  8. This: “It’s perhaps even more important if you do happen to get angry with yourself or feel caught between conflicting desires and ideas about yourself. You can let Scorpio take you deep, just remember to step back and get a wider view once in a while.”

And this: “Venus square Neptune cautions against thinking you have to be ‘in love’ to have sex with someone — or that sharing sex means you’re in love. Kindness and consideration are enough.”

Exactly what I am living in that sphere. And exactly what I keep telling myself. And… Whoa. I am listening to myself.

Maybe it helped that Venus has been on my Neptune (4th), trine my Mercury (12th)… all taken in hand by my Saturn (9th) square Mercury.

i don’t know… sometime I think I’m talking out of my ass. But all this Scorpio business is doing me a lot of good. I feel at home in it.

  9. “Mercury square Mars also says: work out your mental blocks …this aspect asks us to be Love instead” -( hallloween) uncanny. This is what I woke up with this morning. After a very black new moon in Scorpio week – where I reached a state of despair I haven’t been in for a long time – I was gently shown that it’s our mind states that make us miserable or happy . let’s face it life is pretty damned tough – but cultivating a more serene and loving mind (without ignoring our less lovely bits) means we don’t have to always be pulled this way and that by life, people, circumstances, and our own moods. Not an easy task though…. Thanks for this wonderful blog! and gorgeous photo, Amanda. Happy Halloween to everyone.xxx
