As Len noted yesterday, both Mercury and Jupiter are changing signs in close proximity. Together these two planets rule a third of all the signs in traditional astrology — Gemini and Virgo ruled by Mercury and Sagittarius and Pisces ruled by Jupiter. That’s to say, they rule all of the mutable signs. So when these two planets change signs, a lot of people go through changes of pace, direction, emphasis and theme.
Mercury has ingressed Cancer, and Monday, Jupiter ingresses Gemini. Mercury moves much faster than Jupiter and it will be in Cancer until June 15. Jupiter will be in Gemini until late June 2013.
Friday, the Gemini Sun (gradually separating from its square to Mars) opposes Pholus in Sagittarius — the centaur-class minor planet with the small cause and the big effect (ain’t that life?). Actually, the Sun has been and still is skating past a whole diversity of the newer points in Sagittarius — including experiencing the transit of Venus opposite the Great Attractor, a massive nucleus of some kind in deep space, which is pulling galaxies toward it like a magnet draws bits of iron dust.
Also in Sagittarius are Ixion (issues of right and wrong, as well as second chances), Narcissus (who melted into his own reflection), and Quaoar (creation myths; family patterns). Then there’s the Galactic Center — the black hole core of our big gorgeous swirl of stars, where we reside on the outskirts along a side road.
Gemini offers one last act before the Sun swims to solstice — a second New Moon (the first was an eclipse, with the Sun in the first degree of the sign). When that happens, we get a perk from the lunar cycle being shorter than the solar cycle.
It takes the Sun about 30 days to go through a sign, and the Moon goes round the whole cycle in a shade over 28 days. So a New Moon on the 1st day of Gemini leads to another New Moon in the 29th degree of Gemini. It turns out that this degree has been making guest appearances in the charts for a diversity of intense, weird things that happen on Earth, from Sept. 11 to WikiLeaks to Fukushima (and even the Titanic). All these charts and several more in their class have one common feature.
One way to look at this is to say that it ties all those charts together by having that one degree occupied by a prominent point in the horoscope (the Moon, for instance). And speaking of, we’re about to have a New Moon in this degree, ringing all those charts. That would be happening on June 19, and it’s both the latest ‘gee whiz’ chart and also the beginning of another cluster of world changing-type events.
Next in order is the solstice on June 20, followed by Uranus square Pluto, the first of seven passes, on June 24, and then Venus stations direct on June 27. All of this is shortly after Venus makes its heliacal rise (it appears in the sky as the morning star) — its incarnation as the star of love. As they say in showbiz, timing is everything — and Venus couldn’t be better with hers.
taking it slow and thoughtful. yes, time is speedy. the energy is wild. but i am taking it slow and thoughtful.

be you. make good art.
thanks HugS for that link, i’d heard about it but hadn’t heard the actual speech. while i feel he had some good points, i do find it fairly frustrating this focus on the person and not the system, which i feel has an inherent role in this process. i’ve shared this before, but in case you didn’t see it – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U
I offer my sincerest apologies to ALL for my disrespectful, unloving, out of control, arrogant and self-absorbed behaviours. I am sorry for my lack of grace and wisdom for labelling others and for my contribution to the toxicity on this planet. It is my intention to heal these things within myself. Please forgive me.
I thank you from my heart – I was blind and now I see.
HS,
I see your point and I add to it: I wish I could figure out what influence astologically caused parents of at least two or more generations to stop valuing discipline and instead make “self esteem” the new god of parenting. They are so self absorbed. Articles about this self absorbtion have been popping up all over the place. The sense of entitlement these kids have came directly from their parents.
I grew up in an era when parents spanked their kids and in school you only got the ribbon if you won. No ribbons for effort or for showing up. If you lost…oh well, do better next time. The lesson in all that was “responsibility” and “work” are what life is all about. My self esteem wasn’t messed up by the spankings or not getting that ribbon; other factors caused issues with it.
My Gen X friend allowed her 4 year old son to scream and body slam her over and over and over and over again because he wanted junk food and she had said no. She only stopped him when he punched her but all she did was put him in “time out” and he kept crawling out of it, screaming the whole time. She let him crawl out and he ended up hitting her in her pregnant stomach. She still put him in time out and eventually, he screamed and scooched over to her. He begged to be held and she let him go back into her lap. When this kid gets bigger and has the upper body strength that males have, I wonder how she will deal with it if he punches her then. He could break her arm then.
Another Gen X friend learned the lesson about this the hard way; she allowed her son to do whatever he wanted as a child and then, as a teen, he hit her. She called the cops and they cuffed him and took him away. The state mandated anger management and now he has a record at age 15. She was lucky and only had some bruises to show for it. She asks me where things went wrong and I haven’t the heart to tell her she didn’t disipline him or put any limits on him.
Parents have stopped parenting and opted instead to let the schools do it or to just be “friends” with their kids instead. Both these women are very self absorbed.
I tell people that if spanking was so bad for kids and teaches them violence, then my mom’s generation should have been the ones out shooting classmates at school; not today’s “time-out, self-esteem” kids. Gasp! Spanking is barbaric….right? Well I was spanked and I would not have ever thought to tell any of my teachers to STFU like the kids say to my husband. My generation rarely acted out and did the destructive things so many kids of today do. There were no shootings in the schools then. The teacher had a ruler and the principal a paddle and once they were done with you your mom dragged you home by the ear saying “Wait until your father gets home!”
I am not advocating violence against kids, what I am saying here is that in a generation we have gone from being parents to being self-absorbed adults with kids who have grown up without limits and with the notion that they should be rewarded for just being alive.
It would be interesting to know what astrological points cover that particular societal shift. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey Mandy,
Any remedy that has a drug attached to it is simply gross.
I offer this as only my opinion. As much as I want to embrace our new youth with all their gifts of multiple tweeting possibilities or encompassing more info and able to process it double quick, what I want most in this world is for them to grasp humility. Too many a brat have I seen thinking they are exceptional based on some pretty unworthy criterium and simply because they think they can outsmart someone. I know a few teachers, my mom included, who have shared some remarkable perspectives. What kids will always need is the structure and love in which to grow and expand themselves. But inherent in that structure and love lie some pretty intense discipline. Once they have proved themselves worthy of inheriting this planet with grace and wisdom, then I will applaud their intellect. For now, they are nothing special.
I saw this recently too:

Expansion in communication – we just got a new internet!! It was activated on the 6th. We have gone from 4.5 billion IP addresses to 40 trillion. Now that’s what I call a giant leap. A perfect mirror for what is happening to all of us. Can you feel your brain growing? Scientific fact that kids are being born with bigger brains – I know this first hand because what strikes me most about my new Aquarius grandchild is the size of her head.
It has been so difficult to watch all these kids being labelled ADHD and put on drugs simply because they came in wired for the new paradigm, to fulfill their place as our future leaders. They are bored in our dumb down schools. One teacher targeted my son for 2 years, stressing that I should really put him into counseling as he obviously had ‘issues’. I had another teacher fired for smacking my son up the head when he was ‘disrupting her class’ (he was asking a friend for a pencil).
A friend of mine had her kid on ritalin for years. He is now 19 and has been having seizures for the last 2 years and, typical, they just don’t know what is wrong with him so they are giving him more drugs.
I look forward to medical discoveries to help these kids revert the damage.
Eric:
Thank you for an eloquent synopsis with a focused perspective. This is one of those things readers may want to put on the refrigerator, in the purse or above the desk to see your vision come together in their lives.
Thank you also for a worthy (nay, amazing) photo of an wonderful fellow who is truly inspirational even in image.
Tonight I note that Venus is in opposition Hidalgo the asteroid that just spent on Grand Attracteur (the latter I had completely overshadowed on the map or I assess the position of asteroids). As he said that all roads leads to Rome, which means that it will all in the same direction. When we sum connected to the soul of the universe or the celestial body that conveys the true message of the stars. Grand Attracteur it is a heavenly in the same way as the Galactic Centre, the Andromeda Galaxy… Since 2003 on the internet in the channel which are broadcast tells of a large gathering of souls who have acquired the necessary evolution for the great journey of the universe. It is a symbolic start and the Transit of Venus in opposition to Grand Attracteur and the Galactic Centre would have been the transmitter between the Earth and the world heaven. In reality it is only a conscience or vibratory level has reached its high degree of spirituality outside religious dogma…
Good weekend to you Eric, by reading your article I knew not at all what I was going to write 🙂
Thank you, Eric.
Today Mercury trines natal Sun. Transiting Venus is exact on natal Juno. Transiting Quaoar is a degree from natal Saturn (natal Quaoar at 16 Libra having just been transited by Saturn). Transiting Saturn exact on natal Ixion at 23 Libra.
29 Gemini exact opposite my Vertex 29 Sag (conj natal GC at 26 and natal Saturn at 24).
(Natal Narcissus at 1 Cap just over the boarder from natal Vertex).
..etc.
This morning I was gifted a young turtle (by the woman who cleans our building. I sometimes give her food and art supplies etc ‘for the children’. She originates from Ecuador. She carries a mystical quality with her.)
oh man, this is so cool. Thanks Eric. And speaking of love and timing and my lovely bittersweet heart pressing somewhat uncontrollably past boundaries of self expression and frustration………
