The Weekend Astrology

Today is Friday, Feb. 10, 2012. The waning Moon begins the day in Virgo, moving into Libra at 2:54 pm EST. If you pay attention at all to the news (even if it’s just the posts on this blog), don’t be surprised if you find yourself empathizing with the world’s injustices — and how they manifest in your own life.

When the Moon ingresses Libra, it opposes Uranus, Venus and Ceres, which are within a few degrees of each other on the Aries Point. Activity on the Aries Point tends to raise our personal struggles onto the cultural stage in some way, and brings political issues close to home. In this case, aspects of women’s health, women’s rights, motherhood and the health of Mother Earth may all feel especially compelling to you — especially with Uranus charging up the batteries.

In general, your awareness of toxic group dynamics may be sharper – or perhaps the messages being sent will be clearer. Nessus, which has been in Aquarius for several years, can represent the meanness of groups. Overnight Mercury conjoins Nessus; keep your ears open for hate speech, and think before you share that Facebook meme that seems funny at first, but actually lacks compassion. We think of cyber-bullying as something only schoolchildren engage in, but there are plenty of adult trolls out there on the Interwebs. The ease of instant engagement and the safety of anonymity are capable of seducing all but the most vigilant into typing from an emotional, defensive space (or even just a thoughtless space) and hitting ‘send’ before mindfulness and maturity have a chance to kick in.

The Sun makes its own conjunction to Nessus on Sunday, so the alert holds through the weekend. The Sun tends to energize and bring out the qualities of planets when it makes conjunctions. Notice any time you may start taking on mean ‘group-think’ or projecting abusive family patterns outward (or turning them back on yourself). You could turn this to your advantage, if you are determined to work on your personal ‘stuff’ via some therapeutic mode. That’s pretty much always the case, but right now we have Neptune and Chiron in a loose conjunction in early Pisces. This suggests that documenting these patterns, your thoughts about them and reactions to them, and your dreams, could lead to real insights that may help break these cycles. Get creative as you do this – maybe try painting representations of unwanted behaviors, or casting them as characters in a play or a song.

Mercury making a sextile to the center of our galaxy on Sunday opens the flow to a higher vibration of love/spirit – what some refer to as ‘Source’. Think of it as a rudder to help you steer your ship through the creative waters of whatever work Chiron is nudging you to do. It’s all about aiming your mind toward what you desire, rather than what you’re trying to avoid. A Mercury-Saturn trine makes some mental discipline available in that effort.

Sunday the Moon shifts to Scorpio. You might find your sensual passions intensifying; it’s also possible that any lingering frustration with the injustices you noticed earlier in the weekend might grow into brooding. One release point could come in the form of physical/sexual pleasure. You can also explore how it feels to put your money where your mouth is — literally or figuratively — with regard to your values. Taking action even in small ways can shift energy, whether it’s writing an email to a local political leader, making a donation to a youth arts program, or finally committing to volunteer on a cause you believe in. As mentioned, Neptune and Chiron in early Pisces suggest creative solutions that move from imagination to tangible practice would be a great way to channel your emotions. Just ask yourself how much you want to, and go from there.

  1. A point by point outline of my life in this moment – thanks for today’s dose of reality PW!

With Neptune “home”, life is suddenly tangible rather than through the looking glass. The current sky then, feels part of me, or me of it – not some subject matter to study objectively from afar. I made a giant step forward this morning on understanding the lifelong breach – and subsequently working to repair – my relationship with Mother (transiting Ceres closing in on a square to natal Ceres in Cancer?)

and Thanks for the heads-up on Nessus who is transiting natal Merc as we speak. Natal Chiron is close enough to be part of the party, however – which may have something to do with my hearing these days being fine-tuned to bigotry and not-funny jokes.

On an aside, transiting Pluto – not so long ago having squared natal Sun – has moved on to sit exactly on a square with natal Moon/Eris at 8Aries. Well then. This also puts him in semi-sextile to natal Pholus hovering just below my DC. I’d certainly like to know what conversation they’re having! With transiting Uranus only 6 degrees from that natal Moon/Eris ( and that Merc sextile to Center of Galaxy also being a sextile to natal Saturn!) I can only hope it’s productive change and hopefully not all at once 🙂

  2. This arrived this afternoon and, although I’m a Brit, it’s about Georgia where 1.3 billion chickens are reared every year. Now that’s an awful lot of chicken shit, and most of it finds its way into rivers and, since every river flows to the sea, into the oceans. Cue Neptune in Pisces.

“In general, your awareness of toxic group dynamics may be sharper – or perhaps the messages being sent will be clearer.” So it’s on time, too, then.

  3. Neptune transiting natal Eros trine to Sun in Scorpio and Jupiter in Cancer. I awoke from a dream state this morning to “In my Life” by The Beatles played loud as if it were the radio.
