The Flash of Light at the End of the Tunnel

What's large and blue and can wrap itself around an entire galaxy? A gravitational lens mirage. Pictured above, the gravity of a luminous red galaxy (LRG) has gravitationally distorted the light from a much more distant blue galaxy. More typically, such light bending results in two discernible images of the distant galaxy, but here the lens alignment is so precise that the background galaxy is distorted into a horseshoe -- a nearly complete ring. Since such a lensing effect was generally predicted in some detail by Albert Einstein over 70 years ago, rings like this are now known as Einstein Rings. Strong gravitational lenses like LRG 3-757 are more than oddities -- their multiple properties allow astronomers to determine the mass and dark matter content of the foreground galaxy lenses. Today is Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011. Whether you have been spending your solstice in quiet meditation — in the dark or on a sunny beach — or have been too busy with holiday bustle for such a ‘luxury’ as stillness, it’s time to stay on your toes. Now that the Sun has just entered Capricorn, it very quickly makes aspects to a number of planets. This could represent various shocks to various systems; luckily there are tools and solutions being offered at the same time – be ready to use them.

The Sun first makes a square to Uranus in Aries, and that puts it within arm’s reach of a conjunction with Pluto. In other words, we’re stirring up 2012 on the way to 2012. Pluto brings some mysterious potency into the equation – kind of like the solstice itself, but with a good deal more gravitas. That said, the more immediate sequence is Sun-Uranus and Sun sextile Chiron in Pisces.

Have you ever played softball or Little League baseball? The players practice all sorts of plays, but then in the game the unexpected line drive gets hit, and the coach is shouting to the outfielders, “Look alive!” (or whatever they actually shout). This is one way to illustrate Sun-Uranus and Sun-Chiron. Squares bring challenging internal tension pushing us to act, and Uranus likes to surprise us with lightning strikes. Chiron not only indicates something that has been thought through a few times before (wound, problem, nagging intuition), but its placement in Pisces brings creativity to the process. So if you find yourself faced with a sudden problem, immediately shift into solution mode. Remember, if something does not have a solution, then it’s not a problem.

This bears repeating: Chiron tends to bring up things we’ve encountered before. Therefore part of the trick this time may be recognizing the problem for what it is. This is not a time to let it go by again, with that feeling in your gut that you keep ignoring. Take note, and take appropriate action. There is a creative solution. Sun square Uranus is bold, obvious and inventive.

It’s also on the Aries Point. We rather quickly get shot out of the dark, introspective solstice womb and have to land on our feet in the world. The solstice is already a big turning point; this year, the first thing the Sun does as it turns the corner is meet up with two iconoclastic revolutionary influences. Things like rethinking tradition are going to come up. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn; this astrology is about being alive within the form of something. It may feel a little prickly or pressured – Capricorn tends to need to survey the mountain, categorize what needs to be done to begin the climb, and then strategically and steadily work on the problem in order to attain the goal. Taking initiative may be a trait of cardinal Capricorn, but Uranus is going to light a fire under this goat’s proverbial butt – and it may come as intuitive flashes.

Here’s another way to imagine this: Uranus strikes the earth, your very foundation. Where this foundation is firm and grounded in integrity and truth (spiritual values), the lightning has a regenerative effect, refreshing the soil and making it fertile. But where it is rocky or stale, and there is a refusal to embrace the authentic self the last couple of eclipses have called you to be, the changes may be abrupt and scorching. Let the Chirotic waters flow, and paddle with the current.

  1. Ah! “Wordsmith (Wallick)”. Yes. Good choice, there, Maeve. I had been looking for just that noun. Thanks.
All PW writers are great at their craft of writing and their skill at conveying vast psychological depth as well as cosmological wisdom. But it is the Wordsmithing I love the most. Just take it, Len.

  2. BK Nothing shocks me! In fact, weren’t we all Chinese at one time or another? I suspect so, because I feel kinship with them. I’ll have to read the articles. My son says the Chinese are telling their people to invest in gold. At the same time, our government doesn’t want us to own any gold at all.

  3. Love that image!

Putting all that “work” I have been doing on relating, belonging, groups, etc., we hosted a Solstice party at our home last night for nearly thirty people. From what I heard, no one in the group had ever really celebrated Solstice before. No one knew what to expect, but they are an openminded group that love to laugh and play.

I wrote a simple script for a fire pit ritual; one that was on the humorous side to get people on board, but it also brought up the transformative and introspective side of Solstice. Six daring lovely ladies helped and preformed, including some fire magic I read about online to make the pit flash bright and how to make the flames green. We burned slips of papers that included our hopes and dreams, as well as a whole boxful of “relinquishments” that were no longer needed. They were wonderful! Everyone got into it, from writing their intentions to cheering the fire play with drums and bells. I set it all up and turned the Goddesses loose!

What was lovely for me was watching so many different types of people throughout the night, being themselves and being open to new experiences. I realized that everyone gets to be their own unique self and in doing so, that does not take away from anyone else. That is ultimate acceptance.

  4. Thanks Patti – both articles were balanced and helpful.

217,000 chickens died here in France a couple of months back because the air conditioning system broke down at a battery farm. When you really examine how much is not known and how situations are treated with slackness and apathy, it’s a miracle anything still functions. Everything changes and we may look back fondly in 20 years at these good times now when the shops were still full of food (quality aside) and the seasons still had a shape.

    Salut Solstice!

  5. musicman, I couldn’t agree more with you; Eris, as most astute astrologers have said, has a method to her ‘madness’. Thank you for the analogy and all the rest. Last man standing, indeed.

patti. . I keep thinking every day is Sunday. Go figure!

Patty. . if you have time (how silly!) there is much about China regarding the U.S. that David Wilcock has written about on his blog. It is NOT your main-stream theories so be prepared to suspend your dis-belief and you will glean some info that might clarify China’s interest in the U.S. He has written two parts so far and still has a 3rd part coming. You will have to wade/skim past a lot of self-serving info to get to the point of the article(s), but I found it quite fascinating.

It is impossible (for me) to encapsulate briefly for you what he has to say but here is a tidbit….
“HOW DID THE U.S. GO FROM BEING JUST A FEW RAGTAG COLONIES, WITH PEOPLE DESPERATELY TRYING TO EKE OUT A LIVING, TO BECOMING THE WORLD’S PRE-EMINENT SUPERPOWER? IS IT REALLY AS SIMPLE AS THE IDEAS THAT THEY HAD A LOT OF LAND TO CONVERT INTO NATURAL RESOURCES – AND HENCE ECONOMIC POWER? APPARENTLY NOT. WITHOUT GOLD TO SECRETLY BACK UP THE ISSUANCE OF AMERICAN CURRENCY, THEY NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO GROW SO FAST. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MASSIVE BUBBLE THAT WOULD BE CONSTANTLY THREATENED WITH DESTRUCTION.”

“According to JL (code name), the biggest secret of the U.S. is that it was all built up with Asian money – directly from the Elders (“a mysterious group. . that was instrumental in the founding of modern-day China”)

You will be shocked or simply regard it as fiction, and quite entertaining.

  6. Amanda, re: today is Wednesday! I’ve been fallingl through timewarps for two weeks now – you have my sympathies… I sent out my e-happy-holiday-mails today thanking all my dear friends for their love and support in 2010! Sigh… All I want for Christmas is a good personal proofreader!

LindaGM – really interesting thoughts. Two links for you and anyone else interested (longish articles, and oldish but sadly still relevant). 7. Thank you for an internally sound and externally fascinating blog. It seems as though somebody may have consulting the I Ching as this one was written.

  8. “Remember, if something does not have a solution, then it’s not a problem.”

    Holee cats.

This little sentence done rocked my world.

Your post repeatedly supports and references itself – if it was all intentional, I’m mightily impressed by your wordsmithing. And even if not, I know what it is to be the word processor of divinity.

You’ve (PW as a whole) have been talking a lot about family and ancestry. A week or two ago, a TV show in Norway contacted my mom about including our family as part of a documentary about Norske emigration to the US, as well as unknown relatives of famous Norweigan celebrities. I don’t know if the latter applies, but the former sure does. They’re flying my mom out to Norway for filming and to see all our assorted family over there, in January. I had thought for a brief time that they were going to ask me, but in reality, I don’t know if my body is up to the rigours of an overseas flight (my first, to boot), and I don’t even have a passport. But, it will likely make my little slice of the family closer to those in Norway.

Otherwise related to family, my mom got sick recently, and her acupuncturist says there’s no pathogen. She has been very stressed though. The very same stress-illness cycle that I’ve struggled with for years and have only in the last few months made a breakthrough on. Very interesting there. I hope she’ll be in a space to listen, but if nothing else, at least I can learn and move on. In reality, I probably learned it from her (okay, partially).

Solstice was nice. For the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to the Light. Normally, Beltane is my favorite, because while it’s the height of Summer, it also starts the lengthening night, which is where I like. But this year, I’m happy for the light, so it can show us (gently and peacefully) the things we need to work on to feel better and be better.

  9. I would also factor in the Moon … which has just sashayed into Sag … trine Uranus, sextile Venus and square Vesta and Chiron. The semi-sextile to the Sun is an often ignored transit … but seems to be oh so close (applying) to finally closing the gap … that ones work has lead one to identify as the need to principally connect.

Be, I would agree with all of your analysis. I too find great insight in the Yods These were known for a long time as “Fingers of Fate”. I would paraphrase that to “Finger on the Button!” Adding in the Mars transit … which is square the Sibley Mars … in Virgo is really lighting up the Scorpio Juno. Of course all of the action in Sag opposite Sibley Mars and trine Eris is kicking ass!

What intrigues me is Eris. I have this natally … conjunct Sun. I find that “discord” is not enough.

If we use psychiatry and psychotherapy as an analogy, then traditionally, nutters and lunatics were encouraged to fragment, splatter all over the wall, take lots of valium and rebuild their personalities per se in a Macchiavellian tragic black comedy. Electro shock therapy, after all, was discovered in an abbatoir in Italy.

Enlightenment, the passage of one chiron cycle, and our sensibilities have brought us to a position where holistic caring and a regrowing and nurture of our centred conscious are equallyvalid and a whole lot more desirable.

Therefore I feel that it is imperative that Eris work is seen in the context of a fragmentation and rebuilding. The transformation of Identity!

Karl Rove writes in the Wall Street Journal today of the need for Pubs to start understanding Obama’s strategy. For he is one really smart dude! You watch! Like an analyst and an analysand in the asylum, the Democrats and Republicans will smash at each others’ door as discordantly as possible. There will be mucho fragmentation. Last Man Standing!

But who will you trust, ultimately to head-up the nurturing, rebuilding and implementing of real social justice for all at the end of the 15th round? For whom the Bell tolls?

I would look seriously again at the Yod, as Mars transit conjuncts Juno, and then opposes the Sibley Mars. The applying opposition will act like the full moon as its intensity builds.

As for China .. they have simply regained their number one economy status … which they have held for 18 of the last 20 centuries. It was the 100,000 eunuch civil servants at the end of the 16th century Ming dynasty that triggered their downfall.

They simply cut off their own “cojones”

  10. linda — congratulations on the ancestral breakthrough! these are stunning days we are moving through.

the news item, however, is stunning in a very different way…

  11. vince, what can i say — these have been late nights for me working at PW, and i was sleepy! and check this out for a time warp: when i looked at my notebook this morning where i write down my hours, i had listed *yesterday* as “Friday” 12/21.

    oy…

  12. Musings and insights on Chirotic themes…..let’s talk about FLU.

I get a strain of the FLU at least once if not twice every year since I became an ‘adult’ – around the age of 29/30 and I am now 58. True to recurring theme, I have had the FLU for the last 7 days. Health is slowly improving although the snowstorm over the last 2 days in the mountains where I am cast a particularly grim framework for recovering vitality and I starting thinking about my family of origin – or lack of one.

The lightbulb popped about an hour ago:

BOTH my paternal grandparents died when my father was 6 months old of the FLU epidemic of 1918. That was the first ever recorded FLU pandemic and killed hundreds of thousands of people at the end of WWI. There are those who heal who say the source of it was people’s deep seated grief over the carnage and losses of the worst war in history.

So now that I realise I am re-living my family-of-origin’s grief cycle, the plan is to propitiate my dear grandmother and grandfather from Bari, Italy and thank them for my breath in this life and let them know that I am happy and that although we never met, I love them very much. Their son was the best of men and despite all the obstacles of being an orphan, he grew up to the best father I could have asked for – and more.

On another note – latest about a lab strain of the bird flu. Even Pandora would be shocked at this one:

….” But the chair of the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity, Paul Keim, said that even though the research had already been discussed by Dutch scientists at public forums, all 23 members voted unanimously to urge editors to withhold the data in case it fell into the wrong hands……

He said it was such a dangerous biological weapon, it would not be controllable and whoever used it would doubtlessly kill their own people as well…..”

  13. I’d be interested in knowing more about China right now, seeing as how they’ve taken over our financial systems without firing a shot.

  14. Talk about feeling prickly or pressured, the solstice shot me out of the bed (you know what a womb THAT can be) just a while ago in order to pursue a Chironic (nagging) thought. It’s not about me, or you exactly, it’s about this country, the USA. I was thinking about our government; how it’s not just a failure to communicate with each other, it is flat out DISCORD.

Transiting Eris (discord) at 21+ Aries retrograde is so very close to the US natal Sibly Chiron at 20 Aries 08. Furthermore the U.S. progressed Sibly Venus is at 21+ Aries. This could explain a lot. The big boys, Pluto, Uranus and all, don’t operate in a vacuum. They set the scene and it’s all the little guys, the conscious ones like Mercury and Mars that carry out the orders. The U.S. Chiron in Aries is sextile the U.S. natal Mars at 21 Gemini 23. Earlier this month there was a total lunar eclipse at 18 Gemini 11, which is close enough to the U.S. Mars for government work (or not as the case may be). Eclipses are intense.

So the question I asked myself is how does this get worked out. I’m no doctor but I know in order to release pressure there has to be an escape route. There might be one in the ever popular yod configuration. That’s when 2 planets are sextile and they both form a 150 degree quincunx to a 3rd planet. Well we have the sextile. . . the U.S. Chiron (+ trans Eris, the discordant one) and progressed Venus are sextile the U.S. Mars.

The point where the release would be for this to be a yod would be 21 or so Scorpio. Presently, at 19+ Scorpio is asteroid Juno, who Demetra George refers to as the “Princiiple of Relatedness” and Gary Caton calls “the overall principle of connectivity.”

Well, we’ve come to understand that Eris doesn’t just cause discord for no reason, and we’ve learned that Chiron will keep repeating something until we become conscious of it, so look at how the U.S. government has been acting lately. Juno, who works very hard to get along, will be quincunx transiting Eris who is conjunct U.S. Chiron and progressed U.S. Venus and also quincunx the U.S Mars. She will be the point of release for a yod by December 28th. . . maybe sooner!

I hope that these adjustments we continually have to make, day after day and week after week while the major influences of Pluto and Uranus, Neptune and Chiron, Saturn and Jupiter nudge us forward in evolving, will not discourage us too much. Like you say above, it is a creative process, maybe even a game. We don’t want to be poor sports, do we? I most certainly believe that as long as we can come together – here at PlanetWaves and everywhere there are folks willing to listen to one another – we can become a better person and make the world a better place to live. I gues it is about me and you afterall. Okay I think I can go back to sleep now.

  15. I’d like to go back to my solstice womb, please! I definitely know what you are getting at with this one. I can feel it waving ‘hello’ to me, but I’m not sure I have the soul energy to wave back. Maybe that shot of Uranus will jolt my Capricorn ascendant into one last whirl round the dancefloor…even if I’d prefer different music and haven’t got the right shoes on… 😉
