Much of the astrology of the past year has been introspective — including many inner planet retrogrades that recall interior reality, help us review the past and shift perspective away from the work-a-day world. With Mercury stationing direct one week ago, those are now over. We also have a pair of eclipses behind us, and are on our way into the next phase of astrology.
As of this writing early Monday morning, the Moon is in early Leo, where it’s making many aspects — a trine to Uranus in Aries and a square to Saturn in Scorpio (which together comprise some mixed signals, or a bit of blockage and a lot of flow — the image of solving a problem, discovering another problem and solving that one too), and then a square to Venus in Scorpio (Love me! Fuck me! Pretty please! But I am NOT desperate! Just feeling very, very friendly!!).

Mars is still in Capricorn, fresh off of a conjunction to Pluto. Desire on one level is a practical matter. It’s practical to set aside guilt and work your Little Black Book. Venus is in Scorpio. Feel the power — as in the heat of the night, including during the day.
Meanwhile, don’t let your pride get too caught up in anything (good luck under a Leo Moon). Rather, feel good about yourself and others are more likely to treat you like you matter to them, and if they don’t, you’re less likely to care. If you can do this, you’re enlightened by 21st-century western world standards, which are set way too low.
As for solar aspects: we have an expressive moment currently, in the form of the Sun opposing Jupiter. This is an alignment across 11+ degrees of Gemini-Sagittarius. Imagine the Sun (a star) and Jupiter (the largest planet, a gas giant nearly 1,200 times the size of the Earth), in an alignment with the Earth in the middle, the approximate size of a pea compared to a beach ball (only hotter, the Sun) and a softball (but less dense, Jupiter). This is a powerful polarity that may have felt a little like a Full Moon over the weekend and into today. If you’re up at 3 am reading this, now you know why.
Today is a pretty good day to turn on your charm and charisma. It’s a good day to Use The Force, to have faith and to remember, as my friend Aart Nugteren (one of the many photographers who raised me up) would often say, “Fortune is a god!” Under the Sagittarius Sun, make the first move and suddenly you may find that retrograde Jupiter in Gemini feels extremely talkative. Guide the conversation toward something meaningful.
There you have it.
The Sun then makes a conjunction to the Great Attractor, a deep-space point, on Wednesday, Dec. 5 (in effect now). This is a kind of Sagittarian head rush, an event I think is partly responsible for the outrageous sense of time acceleration this time of year (forgetting the fact that it gets dark at 4:30 pm up here in the Northern Hemisphere). I don’t think I’ve mentioned directly in this post that the Sun is in Sagittarius (fire sign, adventurous, nervous, freewheeling and perfectionist).
The Great Attractor is one of the biggest things known in the known universe, which is saying a lot. The Great Attractor is called that because it’s vacuuming a million or so galaxies — galaxies — toward it at 24 million miles per day or so. If you find that intriguing, you can read an old article series I did for my Sagittarius buddy Jonathan Cainer — Sagittarius Secrets Revealed act one and act two.
We’re also headed for a significant public event: the winter solstice of 2012. This is the end of the 13th baktun of the Mayan long count. Part of its public resonance involves its occurrence on one of the solstice points. I have written many times that I don’t know the significance of this event; it’s a kind of x-factor. In a recent issue, I give my interpretation of the chart, and in that issue’s monthly horoscope for December I describe how it will influence the 12 signs and rising signs.
Apropos of much other astrology we’ve encountered through 2012, the planets seem to be describing what we need to change about ourselves and how we relate to others. One of the central questions, as I read the aspects, involves what we experience inwardly as contrasted with what we present to others.
There is too much tension between these two poles of consciousness — who you really are, versus your public relations position. I suggest you notice when you’re saying one thing and feeling something else, acting one way but knowing that you really have another agenda.
For the rest of the year, the astrology is sending the message: your primary relationship is with yourself. I know this is an invitation to authentic sincerity, which can be as repelling to some as it is charming to others. So if you choose to take up that inner relationship, and then make yourself available to others, get ready for some mixed reactions — and notice who is nodding in your direction and saying ‘yes’.
Really notice — that’s the direction to go in. Choose from among those who look at you with that gleam in their eye. You will have fun — especially today.
Amanda, My sag moon just got a second round of glee knowing that its rap was loved. Being tensely aspected, my gutsy-loving intuitively exuberent spontaneous word forming moments arent always understood….for what they are. shoooooowaaaaahhhhhooooooooo.
It’s the same QWERTY keyboard layout in US but less accurate as you cannot feel when you’re on or off a key. With a mechanical keyboard, you know when your hands are aligned. And you may use the word vulva (I use it plenty, but I consider myself a boutique item), tho I would really have to stretch to remember hearing someone say it with the lights on, outside of anatomy class.
actually, i use the word “vulva” regularly. but yes, you absolutely have a point about general usage and autocorrect — esp since there’s another letter on the keyboard between “u” and “o” — and the “a” is clear on the other side. (i assume iPhone keypads are set up lie regular computer keyboards, yes?)
and arrowforwhere: i *love* your rap! i could imagine salt ‘n peppa doing it, too.
😉
Re this autocorrect BS, these Apple programmers are messing with us. Nobody writes the word “vulva” in a sentence, much less in casual communication. I ask you: have you EVER once used the word vulva when writing to someone else, or even yourself? I could give you five more examples of this. Why would a program autocorrect to a word that’s unlikely to be used?
Eric, spot-on.. article, the current astrology is synchronized in such a way to be offering such gifts…sag always says “go for it”….plan to watch the sunrise on MaunaKea on the solstice….divacarla that would be BashBish….happens a lot ♥☮♫
And Happy Birthday!
Yes, kazaa, am experiencing something similar – and I agree with you, the best thing to do is sit back and watch the ‘show’.
Sag sun/Gem asc, and that night woke up several times. So it was funny to read this when I woke up. Felt like I went through a gateway this weekend; Sunday was my birthday. Am observing a rapid cycling within between expansion/evolution and contraction/fear, so intense and so fast that all I can do is sit back and observe it! Anyone else getting this?
That’s a lovely lovely photo of you Eric top right…
Ah yes, that struggle between inner reallity and outer expression; was dwelling on that in a painful way as I drove back to the city from Oakland. Nice to see it articulated as an up theme. Heres a tad of my inner reality that I didnt express last night in a mellow prayer circle. I’m picturing it being sung by the Beastie Boys. BTfuckin’ W, really like the Grandma nature photos; felt transported)
I’m arrow for WHERE!

Well, it’s communication through Freudian slip…rather than intentional self-disclosure. I am just giving my actual emotional response. I don’t usually feel such poignant sadness, so immediately…so it stood out. Who knows where they took things.
* or as Beth just said, synthesized honesty.
…in relation to the “Rumors” album by Fleetwood Mac. Which we both love by the way…real, not synth.
interesting thoughts, eric. on the first one, i did have a sense of, “oh — what an awful way for that to happen.” yet, given that you champion honesty and not getting stuck in relationships that don’t work, i might have thought you’d see that one as an unpleasant but probably inevitable discussion those two people needed to have at some point anyway.
Lunesoleil – I like seeing your post both in French and in English! That allows me to get a better feel for your intent (although I know little French) – because the translations are always lovely but not always clear.
Eric – Yes, lovely photo you took; lovely photo taken of you; lovely article as always – helpful and spot on.
Thank you.
Oh, I agree Eric –
I actually refuse to own any kind of Apple products because they so often seem to overrule me or strip power away from me that I need to do my job fluidly and well. I spend more time trying to “undo” something that Apple decided for me that I waste way too much time just trying to complete a basic task or communicate a direct idea. Weirdly enough, almost every one I know thinks I’m crackers every time I mention this, especially since I work in a creative field where Macs are often idolized. Lately though, more people are starting to get it. These tools should be enabling freedom, not dictating content and denying me access to preferred methods of accomplishing tasks and maintaining my machines!
Initially I thought those autocorrect edits were a scream. However, reading this link, I was sad, particularly at the first one…and then it made me wonder what this is doing to communications with the machines taking over not just the form but the content of what we say. I know people need to proofread more carefully…still…something seems amiss — this is about “becoming the product of our technology” — and that’s our most serious problem right now…
Amanda –
Apology? None needed – SCREAMINGLY funny! 😀
Thank you Eric to have highlighted the Sun and the great attractor, which is this door that we open for us together with the cosmos
Amazing your new picture on the blog
Very nice evening at all
Merci Eric d’avoir mis en évidence le Soleil et le Grand Attracteur qui est cette porte que nous allons ouvrir pour nous unir avec le cosmos
Étonnante votre nouvelle photo sur le blog
Très belle soirée à tous
Cum in my hair. Black Pumas and penises. The Great Attractor.
It’s obvious that I still have so very much to learn about astrology.
🙂
Amanda, thanks! My belly aches from laughing….
And I like the winter picture of Eric too. Interesting tones, the soft pink and a white sparkling that could be snow or icing sugar… or just grey hair… you look really happy.
Thank you. Excellent, helpful and insightful. I was ill for a week during this full moon and eclipse in bed and feeling a very powerful energy. then on friday and saturday buzzed wide awake in the middle of the night inspired and wanting to communicate and connect with others. So your reading of the stars is very accurate to my experience.
Amanda, my cheeks hurts, serious laugh spasms I need medical attention.
Whew.
Whatever is flowing, I’ll take it, deep green pool and all. Wishing I could swim now.
I photo’d the same deep color green pool at BishBash falls over thanksgiving. The camera does not capture what the eye feels.
I had a client texting me at 4 am her time…. I slept through, perhaps because of the rain lullaby on the roof.
Just love this comment thread today!
And thank you Amanda for the hysterical link. My tummy hurts from laughing and I am crying too! Really needed that.
Love the new photo of you–winter colors and happy smile. And I was up at 3am MST today, but back to sleep at 4am after a couple of ibuprofen. And my husband did indeed allow me to gently pleasure him without the need for reciprocation this time, which was as much a blessing for me as it was for him as he processes having a chronic health condition he will be dealing with for the rest of his life. We continue to adjust and adapt as we continue to work out ways to maintain our intimacy. More honesty and vulnerability are required and we are getting there.
Amanda, omg, seriously having a crying fit here! Hysterical!
I’m a Gemini/Sag rising had to smile… I was up at 2:48 a.m. Wide awake. Felt weird. Didn’t know what to do with myself. Ate a couple fritos, drank some water, and went back to bed. (not normal behavior for me) feels a bit like I woke up in a different universe this a.m.
Cool article Eric, thanks. It’s been a trippy year for sure. I’m in a relaxed space now, ready I think for many new things.
“Meanwhile, don’t let your pride get too caught up in anything” – Well buddy, I can only say that when I threw out an unopened box of expired condoms this morning, I was def not feeling all “yay” about it……. 🙁
i am going to apologize in advance for throwing this comment thread off the tracks, but i just nearly fell out of my chair laughing at this, howling and crying and my sides in stitches, and i just have to share in case anyone else needs a good laugh:
http://littlewhitelion.com/some-very-funny-autocorrect-fails-13971/
must be my sagg moon getting sparked up?
then again, who knows — maybe iphone autocorrect fails will lend themselves to advancing the evolution of language. perfectly in line with the etymology conversation here!
😉
Ha!
I did indeed pop utterly awake at 4:15 this morning, which gave me plenty of time to ponder the very weird dream I had that was definitely about getting unblocked.
I also know and love my NY kills… Kil is Dutch for watercourse, riverbed, water between two high banks, etc. Kille is Middle Dutch, and means the same as kil, but it also means chilly (which is also a very good description for all that rushing water in the Catskill region).
Sarah, I once spent an enchanting day in the Slaughters! 😀
Thanks Lizzy! I never think to go to Wiki first.
Fascinating, Sarah! I love the etymological turn this thread has taken (on this cold winter’s day..).
Interestingly, here in the UK we have a few towns with the name of “Slaughter”, taken from the rivers that run through them. In this case, “slaughter” comes from Old English “slohtre”, which means “muddy place”.
Just found the connection between “kill” and “slaughter” in this instance quite striking.
The Walkill River, for ex., is not so small.
Dawn, I found this, “…Streams and rivers named kill (from the Middle Dutch word kille)”.
According to one NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation web site, “kill” is supposedly a Dutch word for “little stream”, though, according to Google Translate, “weinig stroom” are the words for little stream.
I’ve been looking this morning through Mohican and Lenape dictionaries, and not seeing any words, whose pronunciation could have become “kill”. “Keel” in Dutch means throat, gullet. So, *maybe* the streams named Kill are throat-shaped?
Eric- thanks for these clear running thoughts to begin the week. Two notes;
1- I believe the word “kill” came from or was metamorphised by the Dutch when they lived in the Grandmother Land.
2- You have not mentioned the Yod on the Winter Solstice formed by the sextile of Pluto and Saturn (9 degrees of Capricorn and Scorpio, respectively) aimed at Jupiter at 9 degrees of Gemini (retrograde). Since this Finger of God is pointing directly at my natal Sun that day, with Jupiter conjuncting same, I am particularly interested in what Fate is delivering. I feel a bit like the piece of litmus paper about to test the pH of the universe.
Yes, Christy said it all! And now I know why I’m feeling a lot of full moon type fear and anxiety this morning.
“…feel good about yourself and others are more likely to treat you like you matter to them, and if they don’t, you’re less likely to care”. So true. Thanks, Eric, and for the lovely photos too. I *love* that deep water green.
“If you’re up at 3 am reading this, now you know why.” Reading this made me laugh out loud! (though in my time zone it is *only* 1 a.m. 😉 ) Eric – thanks for that, just another one of the many times I’ve been delighted and surprised by your remotely sourced, right-on description of my thoughts or feelings or actions. (I imagine there are so many of us who share the common feeling of being uniquely spoken to by you!)
Besides that, I am so intrigued by this evening’s configuration – the 11+ degrees part of it caught my attention, as that is the degree of four things in my natal chart: Sun and Uranus in Leo, and ascendant plus that curious little world you describe as the thresholder planet in Aquarius. I don’t have an idea yet what that all means, but I will pay attention to how I’m feeling and what’s happening…
with a wave and a hug and even a nod in your direction from way over here! xo
