Moon square Saturn, Venus and Mercury change signs

Today is Thursday July 28, 2011. The Moon is in Cancer all day and applying to a square with Saturn in Libra at 7:03 pm EDT. This puts the Moon in her own sign and feeling pretty invested in her agenda, which is about safety, nurturing and emotional support. This is somewhat at odds with Saturn, who is also feeling pretty powerful and even entitled to enact his agenda, which is about structuring, solidifying and crystallizing the social aspects of your life.

If you are watching the U.S. political scene, you are watching factions of our two political parties take these feelings of investment in and entitlement to an agenda to frightening extremes. Unfortunately, many of them seem brazenly unconcerned with nurturing, but rather obsessed with crystallizing something that would serve to de-structure – or destroy – the lives of many. It falls to us as individuals, then, to focus on nurturing ourselves and those close to us, and we really are perfectly well equipped for this.

Where the Moon and Saturn come together for us is pretty obvious, and that is in deepening and formalizing our connections to people who make us feel good. This is a way of investing in yourself and in your future. The stronger a base you have under you, the higher and farther you can reach once the Moon begins waxing again.

The planets that can help you with this fortification process today are Venus and Mercury. Both of the innermost planets are entering new signs today. These ingresses are like border crossings. No matter how many times you do it, if you are paying attention there is an air of mystery and possibility, and perhaps even a little danger. Combined with the square aspect the Moon is making, this could have people feeling a bit keyed up. It’s good to be aware of the charge in the air. Remember to show empathy for those who may be struggling with it and make allowances by loosening your schedule a bit.

Venus is moving into Leo just before 11:00 am EDT where she continues to chase down the Sun. Babylonian astrologers saw this phase of Venus as the Queen of Heaven, the Goddess Inanna, visiting her dark sister Eriskegal in the Underworld. From a modern perspective, we know that Venus is on the other side of the Sun, as far from Earth as she gets. Either way you get a sense of actively searching for a relationship with someone or something which is at once both forbidding and irresistible.

Mercury is entering Virgo at about 1:58 pm EDT, where he will soon station retrograde in less than a week. The feeling here is moving into a familiar and comfortable territory but knowing you can’t stay long. So it becomes important to slow down and be very conscious of the flow of conversation and feeling. There are important things to say, and you need to find the right moment for them, but be sure not to make any promises you can’t keep. It could be enough just to tell people how you feel and let them know that you appreciate them.

  1. Wonderful words/thoughts thank you both.

yes; with everything else so “up in the air”, feels like this is the time for:
“…..deepening and formalizing our connections to people who make us feel good” inclusive of those acts of appreciation…

    xo

  2. Gary and Amanda,
Thank you for the useful perspective on where we are with useful advice on the most appropriate and thoughtful responses. Two planets changing signs in the space of three hours can correspond to some challenges. Your farsighted approach is instructive and practical for those who are lucky enough to read it and wise enough to heed it.
