Last quarter Virgo Moon: Mind over emotions

If you ever get close to a human / and human behaviour / be ready to get confused / there’s definitely no logic / to human behaviour / but yet so irresistible
— “Human Behaviour,” by Bjork

Have you ever watched yourself behave and thought, either in the moment or in hindsight, “What the hell am I (or was I) thinking?” And then maybe you realized that in all honesty you weren’t thinking; your mind really did not factor into the equation at all? Today might be a little like that, as the last quarter Virgo Moon squares the Sun and a slew of tricky, shadowy, often reactive centaur planets and the polarizing force of the Great Attractor.

Chart section from a 90-degree sort for the last quarter Moon in Virgo, which is exact at 10:31 am EST. Some of the planets mentioned in this post are a few degrees later in Sagittarius or Gemini, and there are many others I have not mentioned. You can see them all here at Serennu.com.

Now, don’t freak out. Really. No one is saying that today will be a train wreck. It just might be a very interesting day to truly observe yourself. Actually pay attention.

Heck, you might even take notes — that way if you do go off like a TSA dog sniffing suspicious baggage in an airport, you can follow the trail back to what triggered you and learn something from it. Not right there in the airport (or in the moment), but a little later. You can unpack your bags at home. Today is just an observation day.

The Moon in Virgo can be a little particular — critical, even (of self or others) — due in part to its Mercury rulership, which governs the mind. It’s a fantastic Moon if you have to organize your workspace, clean the house or dig into a project calling for precision and dedication, especially when it’s waning as it is now. The last quarter Moon is generally when you want to think about wrapping up projects. Situations that have been evolving since the Full Moon (or last New Moon) may encounter a turning point of some sort.

But the Virgo Moon is not the most emotionally sensitive or empathetic Moon. And Moon square Sun can some with a sense of inner tension, of needing to move something in a clear direction. With the Sun conjunct the Great Attractor — that massive deep-space object pulling us toward it as fast as it is pulling away — the frustrating sense of reaching for the unattainable may be palpable. You may be tempted to locate the source of that frustration, longing or pull outside of yourself. That’s a great setup for emotions to get polarized and lend themselves to reactions rather than responses.

As mentioned, a stable of centaur planets in mid-Sagittarius (and a couple non-centaurs in Gemini) are in the mix, within a few tight degrees on either side of the quarter Moon. Centaurs are great for kicking up all sorts of personal, family and ancestral baggage, behavioral and emotional patterns, and various shades of shadow material. They can be very emotional, reactive points to work with, but the thing to remember is that they bring this stuff out so we can see it, deal with it and heal it.

It’s not always instant; the work can happen in layers and stages. But if you’re paying attention and look for the lessons, it can be done.

Some themes in the mix may include: small causes having big effects (Pholus); how we handle second chances, and anyone being capable of anything immoral (Ixion); coping with criticism and standing up for your beliefs (Okyrhoe); defining intimacy versus personal space and helping without co-dependency (Chariklo); creative potential made manifest — or chaos from wielding power to control others (Chaos); and devotion to your inner creative/sexual spark (Vesta).

It’s a lot, and the Moon will move quickly through its contact with these points. You likely won’t notice specific, discrete items in a list. Not all of it will be pressing or relevant for you. The idea today is simply to use your head if a situation (internal, external or both) feels exaggerated.

That would be using the Mercury-ruled Virgo Moon to positive effect, rather than feeding emotional dysfunction, should it try to snare you in old habits. Sailing through customs at the airport is a matter of what you pack and declare. Sailing through today may be a matter of what you feed and own. You don’t have to impose logic or order on your emotions (save that for organizing your desk). Just observe yourself and see what you learn.

  1. Oh, Amanda. That was great. So right on point for me. What else can I say, other than you had me at Björk!

  2. I have a friend who has the Moon in Gemini square has its Sun Virgin, it is true Amanda I hadn’t done to rapprochement with the last quarter of the Moon today and its moon opposite to the Sun in Sagittarius… As it is often said, it will get better tomorrow…
good night and make beautiful dreams come true… thank you Amanda for your informed intuition

  3. firegirl, that has happened to me more times than I want to remember. I really hate it when people take credit for my work but it happened all the time when I had a regular corporate position. But word of mouth has actually been helping me quite a bit lately. We’ve been invited to some juried events without even having to apply, simply because our reputation is good and our product looks hand-made (with no cello bag wrappings). My repeat customers are usually big spenders, but I give soap to people who need it for free too. It isn’t about the money most of the time.

  4. Patty, wow, your story could be my story! I was bemoaning yesterday (on my birthday, sun conjunct great attractor opposite ascendent and natal pluto squaring both. LOVELY) how it seemed I had to work twice as hard as other people just to make the same (and often less) progress. Every time I help someone they do better than me, and I never get any credit. Plus, there’s this many year theme of others in professional situations, either taking credit for my work or using it to advance in some way. LOL.
So the joke isn’t just on you. Let’s all have a good laugh. xxxxoooo
    Thanks for this today Amanda.

  5. I was feeling really jealous about an old co-worker who got a nice promotion to a new position. Virgo moon always triggers my moods anyway. But then, I remembered that she’s probably feeling the same angst about something or someone. This is one of those moments when we need to thank whatever pops up for attention, and release it. My progressed rising sign at Sag 14 and Juno thank you. The moon square (for me) is bringing up the regrets, but now I can release them. To tell the truth, what is most irksome to me is the number of people I helped along the way who now make twice as much money as I ever thought about making. Not only that, one retiree insisted on learning how to make soap, so i helped her. She is married to a retired executive with a fab pension and lives in two wealthy neighborhoods in two different states. What does that mean to me? She gets twice as much money for her soap at farmers market because of the location. Some things will never seem fair, but then I have to consider that she’s’ married to a philandering cheater who’s probably brought VD to the home. heh. Perspective tells me that the joke isn’t necessarily on me.

  6. Thanks so much for this, dear Amanda. Now I know what’s happening I can settle down with it (cue clattering of hooves).
