Sun-Saturn, Sun-Chiron and Mars-Jupiter through the weekend

Are you feeling at all like you’re pushing at the walls of something around you — whether in a sexual relationship (most likely), or philosophically, or physically? Is your own self-concept suddenly feeling like a town that isn’t big enough for both the white-hat you and the black-hat you? The Sun-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio is exact today just after 4:30 am, and its energy is being echoed and amplified by a Mars-Jupiter opposition that’s building through the weekend.

Simplified chart showing the Sun conjunct Saturn (gold squiggle) in Scorpio, Neptune (blue trident) conjunct Chiron (orange key) in Pisces, and Mars (red circle with arrow) in Sagittarius opposite Jupiter (orange ‘4’) in Gemini. Click image for larger version.

The overall sensation may be subtler for you (if you’re feeling it): more like you need to stick your head out the window of the emotional box of a relationship, rather than knock down walls or run out the door.

There are many ways to work with commitment that do not equal containment. But it helps to sort out the differences between desire and jealousy, devotion and possessiveness, or a shared creative purpose versus a control drama. They often get confused.

As the Sun and Saturn (especially Saturn) make their respective ways through Scorpio, these themes develop into a journey of emotional maturity.

If you’re feeling something akin to a maturity crisis right now, consider it to be the send-off ‘party’, with growth in store around the bend. This leg of the trip will last a good couple of years as Saturn treks through Scorpio’s deep waters, aided by its (and the Sun’s) recent trines to Neptune in Pisces. That aspect likely softened or opened the sense of inner boundaries for you — rather like opening up the gates of a dam just a little, or better yet, dissolving the membrane between your regular consciousness and a more imaginative or dreamtime you.

The Scorpio Sun’s upcoming trine to Chiron in Pisces further opens up the conversation between that imaginative, creative space into the option to use it for healing. Anything you can heal and release now is going to make room for that Saturn-fueled growth over the next two years.

Since Sun-Chiron is a water trine, the process can be more of a washing-away or an easeful conversation rather than ‘work’, but the opportunity is an option, not something enforced. If you’re not choosing consciously to use it, it will be easy to let it pass by.

Finally, consider that Mars-Jupiter opposition, which is shaping up from Sagittarius to Gemini. This is a little hotter, breezier, brighter and more brash than the deep water sign stuff in the foreground right now. Mars-Jupiter is not exact until Sunday just before 9 am EDT, but it will be influencing interactions well before then.

This is where the more philosophical/religious and physical sense of pushing out comes from. Mars in Sagittarius is an impulsive energy that needs a sense of the open range and a strong, fast horse to ride across it. Jupiter in Gemini wants to push out in all directions at once, travel far and possibly shoot its mouth off. Combine the two in an opposition, and that image of a Wild West standoff returns: strong convictions facing off after some strong moonshine in the saloon and a romp with a strong woman upstairs.

At least, that’s one possibility. Don’t forget that Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio. Eric suggested to me that Mars aspects may be the ‘working end’ of the Scorpio handle. In other words, if you’re conscious of the issues that the Sun and Saturn are bringing to you in Scorpio, Mars opposing Jupiter provides the motivation to actually do something with it all — rather than simply feeling it all so very deeply. Don’t fall for feeling guilty about being ‘too free’.

  1. My sincere apologies to Len and others if my reference to a debate caused confusion. The Mercury-cum-North Node conjunction coincided with headlines in the UK calling for the quality of sex education in schools to be radically improved in order to counteract the effects of violent and misogynistic porn which the young were using, by default, for sexual instruction. With such a fast-moving aspect, it seemed to me that discussion and action needed to be undertaken urgently, and I read Amanda’s post as a manifestation of that energy.

  2. Amanda: You will receive no debate from me. Thank you for setting us up for the weekend showdown. May fresh flowers prevail over weapons. May the flow of nourishment prevail over the flying exchange of hurtful things.

  3. Amanda, thanks! So wonderful. And, “Don’t fall for feeling guilty about being ‘too free’.” Haha, I aint! 😉

ps. If you’re a Scorp, you may be asked to reexamine your gut instincts, your inner voice, the voice and lifeline to Spirit (rx Neptune/Chiron plus Merc/Venus sextile). Know when you’re wrong. But know when you’re right and back yourself up with the deepest strength known to you, and speak your truth. That is your Phoenix rising that can transform everything and everyone around you, and free you from bondage. This assertion is the power behind making authentic dreams manifest.

  4. Coincident with the Sun-Saturn conjunction, Mercury is also conjunct the Moon’s North Node in Scorpio. Deep thinking about our emotional/sexual natures can illuminate our next steps in human development. Thank you for opening the debate, Amanda.
