The Revolution from Within

The week begins with the Moon in Virgo. The rising crescent has been visible around the world the past few nights. It’s been less than a week since the Gemini New Moon and five days since the Sun ingressed Cancer. The Sun is now making contact with the Uranus-Pluto square, expressing the energy contained in that aspect. (All week the Sun is square Uranus and opposite Pluto, which is a way of saying that the Sun gives a mode of focused expression to something that is like a background energy.)

That is the aspect — Sun, Uranus, Pluto — that sets the tone of the next few days. We are now in the first of seven exact contacts of the Uranus-Pluto square, which was exact on Sunday and remains so today and indeed for weeks. This aspect is a turning point in a cycle that began in 1965 with the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo, and we can look back to that time for information about how to consider our lives now.

We may see the first political repercussions of the square Monday, with the Supreme Court expected to issue several key decisions this week, including one on the health care reform law that went through in late 2010 and another ruling on Arizona’s laws cracking down on Mexicans in the US.

With Jupiter square Neptune, there’s a reminder to keep an eye on what we’re not usually looking at; Neptune often represents what is invisible to the eye but which has an effect. Jupiter is one of the planetary significators of the higher courts and the concept of justice. As any constitutional lawyer can tell you, we Americans really do underestimate the influence of the Supreme Court on our lives. This is a small, secretive branch of government, consisting of very few people appointed for life, which can render decisions that change the face of society with their unquestionable actions.

Jupiter can also represent international affairs. The theme of economics right now is the influence of multinational banks on the whole economy, and of countries on one another. Is there a clue that we may be expecting some news from banking? Yes, in the form of both Saturn and Venus stationing direct within two days of one another — Monday and Wednesday, respectively. They are connected by the synchronicity of the timing, and through Libra, where Saturn is located and which Venus rules.

Both of these changes will serve as energy release points, as held-back feelings, plans and situations begin to shift into forward motion. Whatever influence this may have in the dimension known as the news or politics, the two square aspects point to inner movement first and worldly affairs second. That’s another way of saying the revolution begins within.

One of the critiques of the 1960s is that the revolution, thought and action were dedicated to the outside first — that is, to changing the world. In our era we’re being called to turn that energy onto ourselves, and to be clear about the understanding that if we as individuals don’t grow and make progress, there’s little chance that our efforts in the world can make real changes.

Using this idea would indeed be common sense, and I am starting to recognize the conscious craving in many people as well as see the expression of this astrology as a less bashful approach to self-curiosity, the desire to go deep and the liberated feeling of desire.

Jupiter square Neptune is part the desire to feel good, and it’s also about how good it feels to be honest with oneself.

It’s accurate to say that this astrology can work simply on the level of getting us distracted Westerners to consciously crave life and the feeling of being alive. No need to wait for something to happen.

We could go a long way on that one — taking one another with us.

  1. 1965? I was born in 1965 & have both Uranus and Pluto in Virgo, along with Mercury, Venus and Ascendant….I must be a child of the Uranus-Pluto square…no wonder life has felt so difficult and amazing all at once!!!

Thanks for all the great reading, writing and comments xx

  2. Ding, dong! Was awoken wide this morning about 5:30 PST, not sure if this was the aspect’s— Sun, Uranus, Pluto, or Saturn alarm turning me direct. Cancer, Sun and Libra Rising here…

Eric, beautiful. Perfect. Liberating from within and shifting forward. Thank you for sharing this piece along with the oracle of today. This I hold, truly live and breathe.

“You’re living in a highly charged psychic environment, with the world bristling with revelation and wonder. There’s a powerful voice in your emotions advocating stability, security and negotiating every point down to the last detail.”

  3. Revolution within began for me yesterday with a startling awareness of an issue that’s been holding me back for decades, if not a lifetime(s). Excited! I am ready to release this, to grow beyond it. Finally! Thanks to all the angela, including Planet Waves and Eric.

  4. Jude – the celebrating duo will have issues: the Mittster will have ginger ale, while Jan will have gin and tonics (and keep them coming, honey!). Quivering blobs of delusion, those two.

I think the Feds can use this to finally get Joe: he’s most likely to implement it and screw it up so bad they have to step in and put him away while killing the papers please clause.

Could be a win-win for our side.

  5. fun synchronicity:

this “quote of the day” was waiting for me in my inbox this morning:

“Yesterday I was clever; that is why I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise; that is why I am changing myself ” — Sri Chinmoy

  6. Encouraging piece, especially the part about change being “an inside job.” To thine own self be true, that’s the rule — get that one right and the rest falls in place. Had to laugh, though — I got married at the tender age of 19 in 1965. When I read that, I said out loud, “So THAT’s what all that was about!” My son just shook his head and said, “There you go again.”

Health care on Thursday: immigration today. Much of the AZ law was struck down but the “show me your papers” portion was upheld. IF stopped for some other infraction, cops suspecting illegal status can detain, and call ICE to check. This is a mixed decision, with Kennedy voting to the left and Scalia opposing with a passionate [Federalist] rant. Frankly, I’m surprised it came out this well — and they’ve left options open to challenge it further. Romney is on his way to AZ now to celebrate “victory” with Jan Brewer.

  7. I love this article. You have said that the two stationing direct planets, Saturn and Venus, serve as “energy release points, as held-back feelings, plans and situations begin to shift into forward motion”. Shortly after 9/11 Alan Oken said this about eclipses. “Eclipses in general can be said to release pent-up energy and tensions.” As the lunar eclipse on June 4 was conjunct the Great Attractor opposite the Sun conjunct Venus and Chaos, all squaring Mars, we can feel the held-back feelings and pent-up energy of something new just over the horizon.

Even more so, the Solar Eclipse on May 20 is heralding (Gemini) hidden-from-consciousness changes, if not the world yet, then at least starting here in the United States. We have now heard from the Supreme Court today regarding the Arizona Immigration law, and breathlessly await the verdict on the healthcare law. In addition to the Sun-Pluto-Uranus tension this week, starting at about 11:30 PM (EDT) on Tuesday night and through 3:55 AM on Wednesday, just hours before dawn and the Venus’ exact station, the Moon will create a brief Cardinal Cross with her 1st quarter square to Sun, square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus. This is even more “new beginnings” cardinal energy happening simultaneously with the “transitional endings” mutable enegy between Jupiter and Neptune. By this time the held-back feelings will probably be bouncing off the walls.

Like Brendan, I can hardly wait. (Alan Oken quote from Dell Horoscope, Feb 2002, pg. 54)

  8. Eric: Thank you so very much for beginning with the Moon. The New Moon in the penultimate degree of Gemini was exactly as you interpreted but not exactly as anticipated. Since that re-turning point the waxing crescent has indeed been rising among those whose weather has permitted them to see it as well as those who have not. This has led to a subtle pattern developing. Over the last few days it appears that people have been in touch with and speaking from their respective natal Moons. It has been both fascinating and heartening to see the contact being made within and expressed without as a fresh variation on how and what to be. Once again, you have been absolutely pitch perfect from the first hot note with today’s Daily Astrology blog. There’s nobody else like you.

  9. A busy week indeed, I can hardly wait! I’m feeling Uranus tweaking my natal Aquarius quite a bit lately…
