Planet Waves FM :: A Celestially Auspicious Occasion

Today’s edition of Planet Waves FM is doubling for daily astrology (which is covered in the first 15 minutes of the program).

Your host, Eric Francis.
This is a fantastic edition, featuring an interview with Donna Henes, author of the book Celestially Auspicious Occasions. Donna knows a lot about the natural holidays — the equinoxes and solstices, as well as the cross-quarter days (the Pagan high sabbats). We’re now in the season of Beltane so this is the perfect time to have her on the program.

Donna is also the author of Dressing Our Wounds in Warm Clothes and The Queen of My Self: Stepping into Sovereignty in Midlife. I will let this program speak for itself.

Here is your program in the old player, where you’ll find the full archives and a downloadable zip file.

Thanks for tuning in.

  1. Terrific interview. Eric called it “one of the most amazing interviews in the history of the program” and I can’t disagree. It inspired me to order Donna’s book on midlife, and maybe the others.

  2. Thank you, Eric – and Donna, for a great podcast and interview. I am intrigued by the Taurus/Bull and Aries/Ram analogies to changes in eras, and the comparisons to matriarchal and patriarchal domination. Thank you so much, both of you.

In terms of imagery and symbols, I am always surprised (still) at the Dodge Ram logo, generally emblazoned on the rear windows of trucks. I have to squint sideways to see the ram and NOT see the uterus/vulva/fallopian tubes. Wonder if any of the male drivers of those trucks have ever noticed that?

And now, time to study that conjuction in my chart of Tr Mars conjunct N South Node, and the Full Moon near conjunction with my natal Scorpio Sun. Whooo hoooo!!!!

  3. I once attended one of Donna Henes’ celebrations, probably New Moon. Then again, maybe I’m thinking Rosh Chodesh. Anyway, it may have been 1999 because, as I recall, she lived near the Brooklyn Museum, and it seems it was around the time of the exhibition of Chris Ofili’s scandalous “painting” of the Holy Virgin Mary…the one that got Rudy Giuliani’s knickers in a twist. And rightly so.

New York events–especially over a decade ago–do tend to elide.

Donna’s little dog was so senile, and on its last leg. She was very worried about its future.

  4. Eric,
Thank you for a fascinating exchange with the fascinating Donna Henes. By the way, the May dew face wash is also for guys as well – it feels great. Thank you so much to both you and Donna for not only a tour of the season but (as you infer from the Beltane Full Moon) a tour for all seasons. Blessings.

  5. man… wish i’d had the thought to listen to the first 15 min of this yesterday evening! definitely describes some things i need to keep in the forefront of my awareness as i negotiate a new friendship.

thank you, eric, for putting it all in the terms that you do.

  6. Thanks so much for this interesting, pertinent podcast, Eric and Donna. Thought about the “not a nipple” on the “womb stone at Avesbury (sp?)–how about the cervix, the opening from the womb?
Another thoiught— about Venus related to getting pregnant–isn’t it in one place in the spring /summer sky (the west?) and then it disappears, then returns in the east (?) for another period of time/seasons?
Perhaps the refereence to Venus was concerning Her viviblity seasonally?
    Just thinking.
    Thanks SO much again,
    (((PW)))

  7. Thanks for the fantastic daily astrology, dear Eric! That Lilith is putting me through my paces – but as always, knowing the astrology really helps me work with the stuff that’s coming up and hitting me. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the programme, as soon as i have the time, and ‘meeting’ Donna Henes who sounds amazing.
