Santorum, women and newts — oh my!

By Matt Bors.

You can see more of Matt Bors’ cartoons here. And at this link, you can hear the funniest song about what a terrible newt Newt makes — except for the depressing fact that this is not a new song, and little has changed in regard to Mr. Gingrich.

  1. Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day. It is a legal holiday in many countries, including Cuba.

  2. I do feel sympathy for DK, but from what I have read he was losing his luster with his constituents. Too much national politician, not enough local representation was the gist of comments. Apparently one of his campaign ads totally slammed Cleveland (or Toledo – I could be wrong), and that entire city/counties went for Kaptur.

Folks on Daily Kos have also revived him going to Washington state and running for a seat there (he’s really popular in Seattle). In spite of any attraction for him, I don’t think he’ll find a warm reception at all if he tried that. Too many locals are already running under the new district configurations, and he would be seen pretty much as a carpetbagger – no matter how progressive he is.

Too bad we don’t have an Official National Gadfly – he’d be perfect.

  3. oh, and here’s some somewhat-related and depressing news:

“In other notable elections around the country, Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich was defeated in a primary against Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur. The two were forced to square off after Republicans redrew Ohio’s congressional map to form a new district. Kaptur will now face Samuel Wurzelbacher, winner of the district’s Republican primary. Wurzelbacher gained notoriety as “Joe the Plumber” during the 2008 presidential campaign, despite not actually being a licensed plumber.”

    *sigh*

i think kucinich was one of maybe two politicians at the federal level i actually trusted.

but on the bright side, here’s some news i’m happy to hear about the other decent politician, bernie sanders:

“In another “Super Tuesday” vote, some two dozen towns in Vermont called on Congress to push a constitutional amendment to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC ruling and address the issue of corporate personhood. Vermont could become the third state, after Hawaii and New Mexico, to endorse similar proposals. Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has proposed a related amendment and has been an outspoken supporter of the measure passed Tuesday. “I suspect that you will hear him [Sen. Sanders] today and in coming days really taking the message from the towns across Vermont to the Capitol and saying something has to be done about a Supreme Court ruling that has essentially opened the door to corporate cash buying elections,” says John Nichols, Washington correspondent for The Nation”
